I understand your doubts but Eddy and Howard are two completely different propositions. Howard has a real future and can play multiple positions. Eddy is a backup plan in case of injury.

Howard has been named emergency a few times as is. He is close.

I see Howard as a better long term option than Eddy as well, but by not picking either of them we're costing ourselves a chance at a flag. It's an even year and we're letting a top 4 spot slip away because the coaches can't let go of this issue.

If Howard isn't ready, as soon as it became clear that Trengove wasn't working up forward (about 8 weeks ago), Eddy needed to come in and stay in.

It's a nightmare.

How is picking up a good goal kicker who needs a bit of work, for an emergency in case everyone else is injured, on a minimum contract, stupid.
Because he is small, has no AFL experience and he can only play 60% game time. If he is our emergency KPF we might as well not play one.

The only time he would have been useful is playing second banana to Dixon, but he isn't fit enough for AFL, so why did we pick him.

Found it.

We rank 9th for Shots Per I50

We rank 12th in Goals Per I50
Yep.
46.7% of inside 50s end in scores.
23.5% of inside 50s end in goals.

Adelaide top of both with scores per i50 at 51.5% and goals per inside 50 at 28.6%

Update: Did a little digging of my own

Between rounds 1-15 we are
We are 10th in conversion of inside 50s to score (46.7%)
We are 12th in conversion of inside 50s to goals (23.5%)

Between rounds 11-15 (last 4 games) it changes a little bit
We are 15th in conversion from inside 50s to score (43.27%)
We are 18th in conversion from inside 50s to goals (19.74%)

So everything is going swimmingly....

If the ladder was upside down that is.

EDIT: Which is highlighted in my stupid edits of the first half vs richmond

Love the talk about Eddy not being AFL standard when (this year) we've carried Hartlett, Young and Impey who, for all intents and salary-cap-purposes may as well be considered 24-carat witches' hats. Not to mention S.Gary and Neade who, while not horrible, are completely known quantities with ceilings so low Josef Fritzl's ears just pricked up. Don't get me started on the obscene pictures of Ken Aidyn Johnson must've come across to earn himself a call-up against Carlton in round five.

We don't want Eddy in the side because he's the second coming of Christ himself, we want him because Ken's let the same blindingly-obvious holes in our game plan simmer for over two years now. People just want change, because what we're doing isn't working.

well if Trengove is our best option as our second KPF then there are many people lucky to still have jobs on that fact alone
We're talking a defender playing forward who doesn't do the natural forward stuff, doesn't provide the marking option (essential for a 2nd KPF), doesn't kick goals. If our coaches think this is the best we have who is 192+ outside of a guy recruited externally a couple of years ago, either our coaches are putting their faith in the wrong personnel or our list management has made catastrophic errors at the draft table.

I don't see the negative in trying Howard or Eddy or even Marshall in place of Trengove and Westhoff. The latter are known quantities, they're not going to get better and we're not going to win a flag with them playing the way they are. The former three are untried, could be invisible at worst - like Jacko or Justin many times - or they could be revelations and inject some late season life into this middling side. Westhoff himself came in partway through 2007 as a stringbean picked at #71 and kicked two goals a game for the rest of the season. Young players aren't strictly linear in their performance and development, some can have sudden impact even if they aren't fully developed physically.

As for Eddy, I don't see him being much better than Trengove in terms of scoreboard impact but we're at least talking several positives: rewarding form, natural forward movement and nous, proven set shot ability. The least we could do is try, otherwise drafting him was an absurd waste of time and resources.

So let's say we get beaten in the west, kick poorly for goal, Eddy kicks 4-5 in the SANFL, then what happens next week?

Really I should and everyone should not mention his name again as it's pretty clear he won't play for us this year.

Remember the Richmond game at Mt Gambier in the JLT when wind was to blame for our kicking woes.
Clearly it's been windy for some of our last 4 rds. Relax everyone at ^ this rate we wont have to stress come Sept.
We can all sit back and watch organised teams play organised footy.

Eddy leading the Ken Farmer is literally irrelevant.

None of our tall forwards in the reserves are ready to play AFL this week. If they were they would be selected, suggesting otherwise is just conspiracy theory bullshit.

Yes it sucks that we are probably a good second tall short, but that wouldn't change if we sacked Hinkley. Suggesting so is just throwing a tantrum.

Would rather the unready then the midget squad who can kick a combined 50 meters lol keep being sheltered

Maybe, but it would have been useful to have seen Eddy get an extended chance to find out.
Who knows he might have been a revelation. Some on here closer to the club have described Ken as arrogant and stubborn.
Aren't we lucky.

I'm sheltered because I don't think we should have a massive sook every week?

Why does what you would rather matter anyway? I would rather we do our best to win, and I trust the expert coaching staff to know what that is more than our supporters. If they don't get results they will be sacked, but that wouldn't mean the supporters knew better.
