Well that's the home and away season done and dusted, and pantskyle has pulled away from the chasing pack after polling 13 votes in the last 3 games. Dinsdale (7 votes back), TheInjuryFactory (8 votes back) and spudmaster (12 votes back) are the only three that can catch the lithium-powered orangutan as we head into finals votes. We played three finals, so it's not over yet.

Coney Island Warriors 12.7 (79) were defeated by Gold City Royals 13.5 (83)​

It seemed like yesterday that we last played the Monarchists so you could forgive them for taking a bit of time to realise that the match thread was up, but when they did they stuck out their collective chest and hooted and hollered for a while before settling down to a week of relative conviviality. We didn't get uncomfortably close but close enough.

It was that closeness that permeated into the qooty on the Friday 3, although the ebbs and flows ebbed and flowed. The visitors kicked four goals in the first nine minutes, only for us to kick the next four. Another three goals to them and two more to us saw the Citizens lead by six points at the main break. Then we did it all again. They kicked four of the next five to lead by a game high 26 points midway through the third quarter, before we kicked the next four to overtake them.

For 14 glorious minutes in the final quarter we had managed to not only take but keep a slender lead, however a dubious non-mark decision against SBYM allowed the resident Royal brane to kick a goal and retake the lead. We had one final shot from Piggy Smalls which was sailing towards goal, only for the sim to conjure a fist from out of its arse and spoil the attempt. Then the final siren went, and like our last meeting the Royals had made out like bandits courtesy of a four (4) point victory. They got the week off, we got to host the Babylonians. Could be worse though, we were still in it.

The in-form pantskyle won the battle of the rucks with a 22 disposal/15 hitout/4 tackle/2 goal effort to feed the likes of spudmaster (27 disposals/7 marks/1 goal), TheInjuryFactory (25 disposals/7 marks/1 goal) & Dinsdale (18 disposals/4 tackles/1 goal), while The Filth Wizard (4 goals) & Piggy Smalls (2 goals) were the other multiple goal kickers.

Coney Island Warriors 15.5 (95) defeated Baghdad Bombers 11.10 (76)​

Thanks to the Guy Fawkes episode we encountered in the qualifying final against the Royals, we used up the Get Out Of Jail Free card we earned from our minor premiership and hosted the Baghdad Bombers in what was our final home game for the season. It was pretty standard fare from our neighbours - the initial bluster, some beer chat, a lot of reminiscing between the visitors and the CursingFijian we liberated, a touch of 'be betterness', a bunch of music videos, a Brisbane Bears pic and a bunch of "arna Baghdad" stuff. And hey, it was bantered in good spirits, particularly when a wider comparison is made.

We got to the game on the Sunday and after the after the visitors kicked the first four goals in the first half of the first quarter it felt as if we were going to get done dirty. For the next quarter and a half the margin stayed around the 3-4 goal mark, and it looked like the straight sets exit was on the cards. Then The Filth Wizard got to work, kicking four goals (including three in the final quarter), Piggy Smalls booted two in a row to give us the lead near three quarter time and a ten goal to three second half saw us pull away to end up 19 points to the good by the time the fat lady started warbling.

The win left us with two more steps before the #Flagwazzas dream could become reality, with the penultimate step being a date with the Wondders in a preliminary final.

In wet conditions, it was a pretty even spread of performances that propelled us to victory. Standouts included TheInjuryFactory (23 disposals/4 marks/2 tackles), pantskyle (15 disposals/3 tackles/3 hitouts/3 goals), The Filth Wizard (4 goals), Piggy Smalls (3 goals), Snuffaluphagus (18 disposals/6 marks), SBYM (17 disposals/7 marks) and oldmate (14 disposals/6 tackles/6 frees for/1 goal), but it was a true team performance. Even Dinsdale sacrificed his stat line by acting as a decoy.

West Coast Wonders 17.5 (107) defeated Coney Island Warriors 12.4 (76)​

After our semi final victory against the Bombers, we made it to our first preliminary final since season 31 and made the trip to the Colosseum to face the West Coasters hoping to break the longest active Grand Final appearance drought of sixteen (16) seasons.

The aforementioned semi final week was pretty much the reverse of the preliminary week. It began with being asked to provide some fake bravado to the OP, and true to form I used 1000 words when 50 could have done the job. The hosts continued with the fake bravado for the duration of the week (which is their one wood let's be honest) as opposed to starting out that way before settling into a mutually agreeable groove. Some things just aren't meant to interact, a bit like ships that pass in the night I guess.

But before too long it was game day, where it was glory or death for both sides. TheInjuryFactory kicked the first goal of the game to give us the lead. Then-

and the final siren sounded. The Wonders did the walk of shame with the sim towards a Grand Final, while #Flagwazzas was on hold for another season.

TheInjuryFactory led the way again, continuing his recent form with a 17 disposal/2 tackle/2 goal effort. His fellow centreline compatriots in spudmaster (17 disposals/3 marks/2 tackles/1 goal) & Agent93 (16 disposals/6 marks/1 goal) also did well. pantskyle (17 disposals/13 hitouts/1 goal) outplayed around the ground a ruck deemed worthy by the short-sighted & ham-fisted committee of All-SFA honours, Mesc came off the bench to boot two majors from two kicks and the rover did a bit of roving.

With 53 votes, pantskyle has taken out the season 35 Frankston Rover Medal! He led for 12 of the 19 rounds (including finals), had four BOG performances and six times polled 4 votes, and polled in 14 games.

In second place was TheInjuryFactory on 47 votes. Although there were six votes between first and second place, it was a lot closer than that as both had outstanding seasons. Both he and pants were top 10 in the league in both disposals and DT points and both polled votes in 14 games. The Wooshette Medal​

Back in Season 26, then skipper Frankston Rover announced that the leading goalkicker each season for the Coney Island Warriors would be crowned with the Wooshette Medal. She may have changed her name and then buggered off (and then dropped back in tonight to say hi), but the Medal still remains.

This season we handed the responsibility of manning the goal square to one of our gun recruits, somebody who knows a thing or two about kicking imaginary goals. And despite some questionable coaching moves, he delivered with 58 goals at a rate of 3.05 a game with a best of 7 goals in round 15, another four Michelles and five other games with 4 goals. He even became the third highest goal kicker in Sweet FA history during the season!

So Wazzas, please give it up for quite possibly the first person to win goal kicking awards at four different clubs, the one and only The Filth Wizard !!!
