Frankston Rover Medal - Life Members for Season 35
life members.png

There's club awards, and then there's club awards. And for many, attaining club Life Membership ranks among the more prestigious awards on offer. It points to an extended period of achievement and dedication to the team. You win other awards, but you earn Life Membership.

For me one of the absolute highlights is to see not one but two heart and soul Wazzas reach the 150-game milestone, and in doing so become the 12th and 13th Life Members of the Coney Island Warriors.

Round six saw former captain and winner of almost everything there is to win in these parts TheInjuryFactory notch game 150, while two rounds later inaugural Wazza and Alf Andrews Medallist Reginald Perrin repeated the feat. Gentlemen, your service to the Warriors has been and continues to be immense, and on behalf of the club I welcome you to a most exclusive club.

Get the hell around them Wazzas!!!!!

Thanks Bob.

Thrilled to share the honour with my old mate and fellow Freo bored retiree Reginald Perrin 🙌

Coney Island Warriors 18.7 (115) defeated Gumbies FFC 15.12 (102)

Round 10 had us back at home as we hosted the Gumbies. Another team that had the wood on us in recent seasons, the plasticine people had won three of their last four games and were probably feeling confident heading to Van Cortlandt Park.

If they were feeling confident however, they didn't show it as round ten was by far the quietest week we've had all season. As they say though, you can only play the opponent you're given so despite the quiet week the 17 of us that posted still provided the majority of discussion over the duration. And the majority of that discussion was about micronations and spiders, much to the delight of noted arachnophile spudmaster.

After an even first quarter that was an old-fashioned shootout (6 goals each), we kicked another six in the second to go to the big break 25 points to the good. We extended the margin to 41 points halfway through the third quarter and thought we had the match in the bag. Well we did in the end but conceding 7 of the next 8 goals wasn't what you would call ideal, as our lead was trimmed to a single point with three and a half minutes remaining. The steady foot of reigning Wooshette Medallist Dinsdale however said "Not today, collapse" and kicked two goals to see us win by 13 points.

The win saw us climb back into the top eight, with the top nine sides within four points in the tightest season that I can remember.

Sophomore centreman spudmaster had a happy 21st, playing his best qooty game of his career to date in terms of handballs (18), total disposals (34), goals (2) and DT points (132) to be best on. Reckon we're gonna have to introduce more spiders as that seemed to get him up and about. He wasn't the only one to have a career best game, as Mesc also had career high handballs (15), tackles (4), disposals (25) and DT points (90) from just 79% game time!

Other stand out performances came from pantskyle who went from ruck to ruck rover and finished with 29 disposals, 10 hitouts, 3 tackles and a goal, Piggy Smalls went from up front to down back and ended up with 20 disposals, 7 marks and a goal, Agent93 had 26 disposals and 5 marks, TheInjuryFactory had 18 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles, 2 goals and 5 frees against (oops!), Raveneyes had 18 disposals (15 by hand!), 7 marks and a goal, Snuffaluphagus had 19 disposals and 5 marks, FootyGuy13 had 17 disposals (15 by foot), 3 marks and a goal, Purple7x08_24 had 17 disposals & 8 marks while both Dinsdale and Reginald Perrin top scored with 3 goals each as The Filth Wizard valued efficiency over effectiveness (1 goal from 1 kick).

Ophidian Old Boys FFC 12.11 (83) lost to Coney Island Warriors 22.11 (143)

Round 11 quickly approached like the resurrection of The Jesus and it saw us on an inaugural trip to Spotswood to visit the Old Farts franchise. They're still in a honeymoon phase of sorts so are very much up and about from a posting perspective (aided by their more recent recruiting), but are discovering this season that the sim to that point was a harsh mistress (spoiler alert: it ended up kissing them on the peen). But they had the comforts of an imaginary home to look forward to and were unbeaten against us so they had a 245kg utensil in their step. Made them walk like Quasimodo but they were hospitable hosts. Especially if you're a dad.

Anyhoo, there was a qooty game at the end of the week. From a Warriors perspective it was the best of games, then it was the blurst of games, then it was the bestest of games! We led by a goal after the first quarter, then conceded 7 goals to 1 in the second quarter. Then we had a half to savour. We kicked nine (9) goals in a row in the third quarter, then the OOFs kicked two, then we kicked another eight (8) in a row, and a 27 point deficit turned into a 60 point victory at the final siren! Streaks within #thestreak are a wonderful thing!!

The four points and 6+ percentage points we picked up after the pantsing we gave the OOFs saw us climb another three spots on the ladder to now sit in the top 4. We're equal with another five teams but only one win from top spot!

pantskyle was the dominant robotic orangutan on the field with a 27 disposal, 14 hitout, 7 tackle, 2 goal game to lead all comers. spudmaster backed up from his career best game in round 10 with another outstanding performance (30 disposals/10 marks/1 goal), while CursingFijian was moved onball and had his best game in Coney Island persimmon (24 disposals/4 marks/2 tackles/3 goals). Others to do well included FootyGuy13 (22 disposals/6 marks/1 goal), Piggy Smalls (4 goals), Raveneyes (18 disposals/6 marks/3 goals), TheInjuryFactory (24 disposals/3 marks/1 goal), Purple7x08_24 (20 disposals/5 marks) & Dinsdale (21 disposals/2 marks/2 tackles) while Agent93 Reginald Perrin & The Filth Wizard were the other multiple goal kickers with two apiece.
