Back in Season 26, then skipper Frankston Rover announced that the leading goalkicker each season for the Coney Island Warriors would be crowned with the Wooshette Medal. She may have changed her name and then buggered off (and then dropped back in tonight to say hi), but the Medal still remains.

This season we handed the responsibility of manning the goal square to one of our gun recruits, somebody who knows a thing or two about kicking imaginary goals. And despite some questionable coaching moves, he delivered with 58 goals at a rate of 3.05 a game with a best of 7 goals in round 15, another four Michelles and five other games with 4 goals. He even became the third highest goal kicker in Sweet FA history during the season!

So Wazzas, please give it up for quite possibly the first person to win goal kicking awards at four different clubs, the one and only The Filth Wizard !!!

Coney Island Warriors 17.7 (109) defeated Gold City Royals 16.6 (102)​

We were back at home in round six after pulling off a smash & grab at the Roys the previous week, this time facing the Gold City Royals in what was a significant round for a few of us. It was the first time that The Filth Wizard was facing his former team since his blockbuster move in the off-season, Freofalcon was notching up SFA game number 250 and TheInjuryFactory joined the pantheon of Coney Island greats by playing game 150 in persimmon, thus earning Life Membership.

These sorts of occasions are normally harbingers of doom for us when it comes to qooty, but it looks like the strategy of 'celebrate one and ignore the other' seems to have worked a treat. It was another lively week in the match thread with 17 of us throwing out around 550 truth nuggets out there. The Royals are mostly good folk despite the inbreeding, nepotism & [REDACTED] and were talkative visitors, particularly the new guy.

Once Sunday Friday 3 rolled around we were ready to rumble, or so we thought. A 6 goal to 2 quarter to the Gold Citizens had us staring down the barrel of another milestone malaise, and by the 5 minute mark of the second stanza we were in a 40 point hole. However we dug up and kicked six of the next seven goals to trail by only 10 points at the halfway mark. The second half had similar twists and turns - the Royals kicked the first 3 goals of the third quarter to increase their lead to 28 points only for Piggy to kick 3 goals and Purple 2 in the quarter to see the lead reduced to a solitary point at the final change.

Then things got real tight. We kicked a couple of goals, they kicked a couple of goals. We kicked another goal, they kicked another goal. We kicked another goal, they couldn't afford. So we ended up seven points ahead at the final siren. Great success!

The win saw us climb back into the top 8 and, thanks to a close first half of the ladder, only one game off top spot with a game in hand!

FootyGuy13 was back to his Frankie winning form with 24 disposals, 6 marks and 5 goals from a flank to earn BOG while Piggy Smalls also kicked five goals from a pocket. For the second week in a row Purple7x08_24 took over from The Filth Wizard at full forward and added another three goals to the 9 he booted last week, while Filthy kicked two to share the overall goalkicking lead with Purple & Guy on 12 for the season with Piggy a further kick back.

The wings in Agent93 (27 disposals/4 marks) and our newest life member TheInjuryFactory (25 disposals/6 marks) were the pick of the mids, with SBYM and toxic spending some time in the guts as well.

The four votes that TheInjuryFactory picked up in round six saw him move to 264 career Frankie votes, one more than the zackah earned in his first stint at Coney Island. Of course the wonderful news of zackah's return means that he is odds on to add to his tally, but his absence means that we now have a new leader in the all time Frankie vote tally. Mazel tov TIF!!

Thanks Warriors, for once I can say the pleasure is all of ours.

It was a long time coming joining this group and I feel truly revived which is exactly what Tonga Bob and TheInjuryFactory promised me after telling me, quite often and rarely kindly, that I was washed up.

This is an awesome group and then there's the bonus of wearing a medal with Wosh's face and pickled egg recipe on it, it's a great time. Hopefully we drag that wench home as well.

Coney Island Warriors 18.14 (122) defeated West Coast Wonders 15.7 (97)​

Round seven saw us continue to enjoy the comforts of home, as we hosted the Wondders Family. One of those teams that historically we haven't always seen eye to eye with, this week though saw a more convivial mood among our visitors... well, for the most part at least. Perhaps it was due to their celebrating Clarkey's 500th game, the 5th person to reach that particular milestone and the 4th to do so in a match against us.

Anyhoo, 19 of us turned up in a thread where we again provided the majority of content which has been a pleasantly recurring theme throughout the season! And speaking of recurring themes, this extended to the qooty. An even first quarter and some interesting substitutions from coach The Donald led to a two goal lead at half time, which increased to 22 points at the final change before a see-sawing six goal apiece shootout in the final stanza saw us 25 points to the good once the final siren sang!

Three wins on the trot and #thestreak was well and truly on. This saw us rise up to fourth on the ladder but second by win percentage and with a game in hand over first placed Roy.

For the second game in a row, the Fritschian FootyGuy13 topped the 100 DT point mark with a 20 disposal/11 mark/4 goal effort. Sophomore centreman spudmaster also cashed in on the cloudy conditions with possibly a career best game, amassing 31 disposals, 11 marks and a goal. Others to do well included Mofra (22 disposals/9 tackles) who was moved onto the ball, the returning The Half Back (26 disposals/8 marks/1 goal), CursingFijian (14 disposals/9 marks/2 goals), Agent93 (24 disposals/3 marks), Mesc (4 goals) and oldmate (20 disposals/12 tackles).

Well Wazzas, nothing lasts forever. Pre-season hopes for your foopy team, beer in Dinsdale's fridge, and #thestreak

We were on the road in round 8... well, road, boat, plane, idk. Whatever got us to Dragon Island. Once we were there, we had what was universally recognised as the most convivial match thread between the two teams in living memory. In saying that however, the well-worn bingo card did a lot of heavy lifting over the course of the week. But here's an encouraging thing - we had another streak that continued in round 8, where we maintained the majority of posts in a match thread. Bloody good stuff!

The other thing which took place in round 8 was that Reginald Perrin became the 13th Warrior to qualify for Life Membership. This meant it was a milestone match, and in recent times they have not caused too many problems for us.

We started pretty well in the qooty, with 9 scoring shots to 2 in the first quarter. Scoring accuracy is a harsh mistress however, as our 33% was no match for the hosts' 100% meaning we only led by 12 points. That became -4 at half time, and despite the Dragons going goalless in the final quarter the seven they kicked in the third was enough to give #thestreak the Old Yeller treatment.

The loss meant we dropped one spot on the ladder but are within the top 8, along with four other teams with a 4-3 record.

Probably best on for us was Dinsdale with 20 disposals and 5 tackles, with the Brothers Grin (18 disposals and 15 hitouts from pantskyle and 4 goals from The Filth Wizard), Agent93 (19 disposals/3 marks) and Freofalcon (2 goals) all putting in a decent shift on a rainy afternoon.

Coney Island Warriors 10.7 (67) lost to Baghdad Bombers 16.15 (111)​

We returned home from Dragon Island in round nine to face the reigning premiers, who were still up and about despite having 46 players suspended. And despite a bit of YouSpam MTV action, this mass absence meant that we were more prolific against the Bombers in a match thread in forever. It was also an opportunity to celebrate The Filth Wizard playing his 8th game as a Warrior (oh, and 350th in the SFA).

This wasn't the same old song however. That was reserved for the qooty on Sunday, as the first quarter saw the visitors had the first 12 shots on goal in the first quarter to race to a 37 point lead. We pegged it back to 5 points in the second quarter, but the slow start did it in for us by the final siren as we finished 44 points in the red by the final siren.

The second loss in a row saw us drop out of the eight, although we remain one win (and a heap of percentage) off top spot.

The defense were well served by Purple7x08_24 (22 disposals/6 marks) and Snuffaluphagus (19 disposals/8 marks), the midfield was led by Dinsdale (19 disposals/6 tackles) TheInjuryFactory (20 disposals/4 marks) SBYM (15 disposals/9 hitouts/4 tackles/1 goal) & Agent93 (16 disposals/5 marks), while upfront it was The Filth Wizard show as the milestone man bagged a Michelle, while Freofalcon & Reginald Perrin chimed in with 2 goals each. But RIP in pieces to Piggy Smalls for picking up donuts on 71% game time.
