Coney Island Warriors 21.7 (133) defeated Mount Buller Demons 18.8 (116)​

After wins against the Plasticinies & the OOFs, we were back at home to face the Mount Buller Demons. The Deez had fallen on tough times this season, which had not only made them the strongest team in the SFA (due to holding up the rest of the league ladder) but also earned them a comparison with the Bluth family from Arrested Development. Richly deserved, I have to admit.

The week revolved around attempted poaching, sealed lead batteries, people playing for the other side, and Tarks. Always Tarks. It was fun though, with 18 of us getting amongst it which is the highest involvement since rounds 7 & 8. Then when the qooty came, we gathered round to watch the opposition kick 5 opening quarter goals to 3 (and 10 scoring shots to 4) to threaten the classic simhousing plot of the underdog giving us the business. The pendulum swung back towards us in the second, and by half time we were up by two points. It was a similar story for most of the second half - the lead changed four times in the third quarter and twice more in the fourth with the Deez up by 4 points with seven odd minutes remaining. But like last week we found an extra gear in red time, kicking four goals to one to salute the judges at the end of the game to the tune of 17 points.

Even though we won, we didn't move up or down on the ladder such is the even nature of this season. We remained a game off top spot, but more importantly we were two games ahead of 9th place.

Season 32 Mobbs Medallist TheInjuryFactory had a day out, with his 25 disposal/5 mark/3 tackle/4 goal effort his best return to date for season 35. Another to dominate was pantskyle whose 6V4Ah sealed lead battery was running at full capacity with a 27 disposal/19 hitout/5 tackle/1 goal game. Others to impress were spudmaster (22 disposals/3 marks/2 tackles/1 goal), Dinsdale (25 disposals/5 tackles/1 goal) and yer man with a 6 tackle/6 free for game.

The goals were shared around which indicates a potent forward line. toxic joined TIF by kicking 4 goals while Purple7x08_24 (3), Piggy Smalls (3) and FootyGuy13 (2) also kicking multiple majors.

Sin City Swamprats 13.10 (88) lost to Coney Island Warriors 14.13 (97)​

We took our three game winning streak and our shovels to the Underground Stadium to face the Sin City Swamprats who, in a fixturing quirk, were hosting us in between a pair of byes. The hosts led with dad jokes, some other stuff, and a former admin blowing smoke up his own arse for five straight days which didn't end up helping him become second at doing something.

Now to the game. The short answer is we led from start to finish, but that doesn't tell the full story. We had a rare fast start, with 10 shots on goal to 3 in the first quarter to lead by 23 points. The second was a bit quieter but just as productive - 3 goals to nil seeing us 41 points to the good at the main break. Then by the time Dinsdale kicked our seventh unanswered goal in 20 third quarter minutes we led by 74 points.

Seventy four points.

At three quarter time we were still 62 points up, so we went to the pub. This allowed the Sin Citizens to have the wettest sail in the history of boats and ninja turtled nine goals in the last quarter to reduce our winning margin from the aforementioned 74 points to a measly nine (9) points at the final siren. So we won and gained two spots on the ladder thanks to other results, but giving up a heap of potential percentage points denied us the opportunity to finish the first round where everyone had played the same number of games since the start of the season on top of the ladder. Still, I'd rather be joint top than stone motherless, which is where our hosts sat.

Winger TheInjuryFactory backed up from his BOG performance with another big game thanks to his 27 disposals and a goal. spudmaster (19 disposals/6 marks/1 goal), Dinsdale (14 disposals/7 tackles/1 goal), Purple7x08_24 (16 disposals/5 marks/4 tackles/1 goal), pantskyle (14 disposals/3 tackles/11 hitouts/1 goal) & Agent93 (18 disposals/3 marks) also impressed. The damage up front was done by the back-in-form The Filth Wizard (4 goals) which took him to third place in the all time goal kicking table, while both FootyGuy13 & Reginald Perrin kicked two goals each.

Our back six of Raveneyes TubbsFarquhar Mofra Snuffaluphagus Freofalcon & SBYM did an outstanding job to restrict the opposition to 2 goals for almost three quarters! Conceding 11 goals in the last 28.5 minutes wasn't ideal though.

I'm also not quite sure how Piggy Smalls ended up with no disposals but 2 marks, but he pulled it off!

Coney Island Warriors 18.7 (115) defeated Gumbies FFC 15.12 (102)​

Round 10 had us back at home as we hosted the Gumbies. Another team that had the wood on us in recent seasons, the plasticine people had won three of their last four games and were probably feeling confident heading to Van Cortlandt Park.

If they were feeling confident however, they didn't show it as round ten was by far the quietest week we've had all season. As they say though, you can only play the opponent you're given so despite the quiet week the 17 of us that posted still provided the majority of discussion over the duration. And the majority of that discussion was about micronations and spiders, much to the delight of noted arachnophile spudmaster.

After an even first quarter that was an old-fashioned shootout (6 goals each), we kicked another six in the second to go to the big break 25 points to the good. We extended the margin to 41 points halfway through the third quarter and thought we had the match in the bag. Well we did in the end but conceding 7 of the next 8 goals wasn't what you would call ideal, as our lead was trimmed to a single point with three and a half minutes remaining. The steady foot of reigning Wooshette Medallist Dinsdale however said "Not today, collapse" and kicked two goals to see us win by 13 points.

The win saw us climb back into the top eight, with the top nine sides within four points in the tightest season that I can remember.

Sophomore centreman spudmaster had a happy 21st, playing his best qooty game of his career to date in terms of handballs (18), total disposals (34), goals (2) and DT points (132) to be best on. Reckon we're gonna have to introduce more spiders as that seemed to get him up and about. He wasn't the only one to have a career best game, as Mesc also had career high handballs (15), tackles (4), disposals (25) and DT points (90) from just 79% game time!

Other stand out performances came from pantskyle who went from ruck to ruck rover and finished with 29 disposals, 10 hitouts, 3 tackles and a goal, Piggy Smalls went from up front to down back and ended up with 20 disposals, 7 marks and a goal, Agent93 had 26 disposals and 5 marks, TheInjuryFactory had 18 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles, 2 goals and 5 frees against (oops!), Raveneyes had 18 disposals (15 by hand!), 7 marks and a goal, Snuffaluphagus had 19 disposals and 5 marks, FootyGuy13 had 17 disposals (15 by foot), 3 marks and a goal, Purple7x08_24 had 17 disposals & 8 marks while both Dinsdale and Reginald Perrin top scored with 3 goals each as The Filth Wizard valued efficiency over effectiveness (1 goal from 1 kick).

    After round 13 pantskyle has retaken the lead with a three vote lead over Dinsdale and then another one back from both spudmaster & TheInjuryFactory (who has stormed back into contention with two consecutive BOG performances), but with four votes separating the top four it's still anyone's Frankie. Rounding out the top five is Daylight.

    Now we come to the awarding this season's Pwned Trophy. This goes to the player who makes the opposition melt the hardest and the rest of us laugh our arses off. It is one of the club's highest honours, passed down through the generations of Wazzas in recognition of their services to lulz.

    It was a funny old season for pwnage. Many would argue that the SFA is a milder version of itself when compared to the early days of the Warriors, when the sh*t flew thick and fast. A case in point came in Heritage Round when we invited Once Were Wazzas to come and see what we've done to the place. One such person who paid us a visit was the Artist Formerly Known As DapperJong who, in a whirlwind visit, not only insulted our opponents but a completely random team before performing a Homeresqe disappearing act into a virtual hedge.

    Last season we awarded joint pwned trophies, and you know what? I'm gonna do it again as there were two nominations which stood out for differing reasons. The first was in round two, where the topic du jour was a former Warrior's alleged PM melt. It may not have happened but I'd like to think it did.

    Baghdad Bombers 18.11 (119) lost to Coney Island Warriors 20.8 (128)​

    Round 14 was the first of the reverse fixtures, and we drew the reigning premiers as the first team to double up against. One thing I like about a week with the Bombers is that you know what you're gonna get - some decent banter, a sh*t ton of music videos, some 'absent' friends, a bit of BeerChat, a Brisbane Bears training pic, camels and an incontinent dog. And pretty much all of those boxes were ticked over the course of the week.

    This led us into game day where second place (us) was playing sixth place (them), so by rights it should have been a close match. And it was. We started with the first three goals of the match, only for the hosts to kick 5 of the next 6 to take a 4 point lead into the first change. Three goals to two in the second saw us retake the lead at half time by the slightest of margins, before the floodgates opened for both sides in the second half. The third quarter proved to live up to its name of the Premiership quarter, as we kicked eight goals to six to head into the final turn 14 points to the good. And although the Baghdadis had 10 scoring shots to 5 in the final quarter, their 50% accuracy was no match for our clutch kicking as we nailed all five of our shots on goal to run out 9 point victors for the second week running and increasing #thestreak to five games!

    With the OOFs giving the Gold Citizens a touch up, this allowed us to go up the final rung on the ladder to finish the round in top spot for the first time in quite a while. So how's the view?

    In an even performance across the board, a lot of Wazzas filled their boots this week with a whopping four (4) people cracking the DT ton, another seven hitting half tons and two more kicking four goals (out of eight different goal kickers)!

    Of the centurions, we had TheInjuryFactory (29 disposals/10 marks/2 tackles/2 goals from 91% game time), spudmaster (equal career high 34 disposals/6 marks/3 tackles/1 goal), CursingFijian (23 disposals/10 marks/3 goals in his best outing as a Wazza) and yours truly. The 50+ included FootyGuy13 TubbsFarquhar (although he did concede 8 goals) Snuffaluphagus SBYM Freofalcon pantskyle & Dinsdale, while The Filth Wizard & toxic were the two players to help themselves to four snags apiece.

    Coney Island Warriors 20.18 (138) defeated Roys FFC 18.9 (117)​

    The second of our double up games this season was against the Roys. The last time we played them we had a drought-breaking victory, and coming into round 15 #thestreak had reached a Rubenesqe five games. Several of our opponents however had decided to take the opportunity to migrate to warmer climes because of work, pleasure or punishment (or all three in some cases), so the three-headed captain manfully stood in for the absconders. There was Mod Jr, a barrel, tig and fitzroybooniedoll's Twitter account but the week was a TED talk for all intents and purposes.

    The qooty arrived soon enough, and it has to be said that we've been treated to some entertaining games of late. And this week's edition which was the 100th game in persimmon for TubbsFarquhar was no exception. The combined margin for the three intervals during the match was a mere nine (9) points, with the biggest lead in that time being an 18 point margin to the Gorillas in the first quarter. To our credit though we kept the monkey men close until the final quarter when we put on eight goals to Roy's five, seeing us salute the judges at the final siren to the tune of a game high 21 points.

    The win saw #thestreak extend to a muscular six games as we not only consolidated our position atop the ladder, but we also became the first team to confirm our place in the finals for season 35 before a top of the table clash in round 16.

    It was the Brothers of Destruction Show, and we all had front row seats! pantskyle had a season best performance with 30 disposals, 22 hitouts, 7 tackles and a goal while The Filth Wizard had himself his best game in a Warriors jumper with seven goals four behinds from 17 disposals. Mesc also filled his boots, having a career best game off the bench with 27 disposals, 8 tackles and a goal in a game where he hit three figures in DT points for the first time.

    Plenty others impressed as well. From the backline Freofalcon (14 disposals/5 marks) & Snuffaluphagus (16 disposals/7 marks) found plenty of it while Mofra was sent forward and rewarded coach The Donald with 3 goals. Up forward the likes of Purple7x08_24 (22 disposals/6 marks/1 goal) and CursingFijian (same as Purple7 but with one fewer mark) had a lot of inside 50's while in the guts it was Mesc who joined Dinsdale (22 disposals/6 marks/1 goal) spudmaster (21 disposals & 3 marks) and the Tongan Rover doing the grunt work, feeding it out to TheInjuryFactory (22 disposals/7 marks/1 goal) who continues his rich vein of form.

    Gold City Royals 16.10 (106) defeated Coney Island Warriors 15.12 (102)​

    Well Wazzas, #thestreak came to an end so it was time to put some clothes back on.

    We were on the road in round 16, visiting the Golden Throne in a top of the table match against a Gold City side up and about since oldmate had coronated recently. The hosts gave appropriately bullish banter for a while, but the week wasn't really about them. You see it was Heritage Round, and the bigwigs down at SFA HQ put on an exhibition game between our legends and some Royal fossils. And like that chick's milkshake, the exhibition game (and the fact we are top of the ladder) brought all the boys to the yard. Some were fleeting visits, others were vintage Bayesqe smash & grab efforts, but one in particular stood out and that was the cameo from club founder and spiritual leader Frankston Rover. And under his stewardship the heritage Wazzas, resplendent in the Whore Tree kit, won the exhibition game.

    Could we replicate their effort on the weekend? Short answer no, long answer noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. It was a game befitting the MoTR status, with the hosts kicking three goals in the first 8 minutes in some regularly-scheduled simhousery but were unable to kick away any further. A seven goal to five second term saw us take a two point lead at the main break, which we doubled by three quarter time. The last term however started the same way as the first with the hosts again kicking three goals in the first 8 minutes, and although we brought the margin back to two points we fell just short at the final siren, with the Royals winning by four points.

    Now you know you're having a good season when you lose a game yet finish the round still on top of the ladder! Finals was guaranteed and the double chance close to secured, so we may have lost the battle in round 16 but we could still win the war!

    Agent93 was best on for us, with his 28 disposal/10 mark/4 tackle/1 goal effort his best return so far in a Warriors guernsey. The usual suspects were also up to their necks in it with pantskyle (22 disposals/12 hitouts/3 tackles), Dinsdale (16 disposals/8 tackles/2 goals), TheInjuryFactory (22 disposals/4 marks/1 goal), The Filth Wizard (5 goals), FootyGuy13 (16 disposals/3 marks/2 goals) & spudmaster (16 disposals/8 marks) front and centre. Piggy Smalls was the other multiple goal kicker with two, while Snuffaluphagus & Freofalcon were the standouts in the backline.

    Mount Buller Demons 11.11 (77) lost to Coney Island Warriors 18.7 (115)​

    After the second of two byes for the season in round 17, we headed to the Snow Dome to shake up the Dees knowing that a win against the already-crowned wooden spooners would seal our first minor premiership in 17 seasons. The week itself was pretty good given we were coming off the bye and they were winding down to Mad Monday. A former Warriors skipper did a lot of the heavy lifting for the Mountaineers, while we got into our work quite well.

    The game itself went to script for a first versus last game. We kicked the first goal after 38 seconds (an absolute beauty if you ask me!), before teasing the hosts by conceding the next two goals. We kicked the next five to take a 27 point lead into the first change, and by half time led by 38. Things steadied from there, because the half time lead became the full time lead and just like that, the minor premiership was making its way to Van Cortlandt Park!

    Dinsdale led all comers with 31 disposals, 7 tackles and a goal. He was well fed by pantskyle who had 18 hitouts to go with 22 disposals, 3 tackles and 2 goals to dominate the reigning All-SFA ruckman. Others to impress were The Filth Wizard with 5 goals, TheInjuryFactory (22 disposals & 2 goals), Agent93 (25 disposals & 5 marks), Piggy Smalls (3 goals), spudmaster (20 disposals & 4 marks), Purple7x08_24 (16 disposals/6 marks/1 goal) and I did OK too.

    Round 18 saw pantskyle 's all time Frankie vote total come to 251, which saw him take second place in the all time rankings. Good thing zackah has returned, he has some catching up to do now!
