Disappointing Melbourne

Yeah not happy.

That trip up to Darwin must be hard on the young kids. We got Carlton and Collingwood up next.

Apparently percentage means nothing to them.
I would have played Scully and Trengy on Ablett in rotations so they cans see how he goes about it, like an apprenticeship.

Hmm I'm not too pleased with the decision but then again how would any of us know how they pulled up after playing in 35* weather in Darwin???

I'm sure they can rotate on Chris Judd next week

"Resting" Trengove and Scully for this week against the Cats. Shocking decision really as it would have been such a great learning curve for them.

Soft really
Was my first reaction, but we're playing Gysberts so I really think it is a proper rest. I've actually been calling for one of them to have a rest for the last couple of weeks.

Nothing wrong with the decision to rest them.

They are both young and it is a big ask to play a full season in your first year.

Remember, they played in Darwin last week which could easily have had an effect on their bodies.

I'm sure some Melbourne supporters would be disappointed but if it helps them get through their first seasons earlier then it is the right decision to make.

Dissapointing, love watching them both play.. and as others have said playing on the best is the fastest way to develop.

Can understand it though if its due to the Darwin heat, but that brings up the question as to whether its worth selling a game up there if it means our players are fkd for the following week giving us less of a chance to win

Ask Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer and many other 1st year players if they need it or not. Murphy has only missed the games after he injured his shoulder against the Bears. Gibbs has missed one game with a thigh? i think it was, Kreuzer hasn't missed a game since his debut in round 3 2008. Don't see them slowing down. Sure the Darwin game may have been taxing, perhaps they could have given one a rest this week and the other next week. They are having another rest in 2 weeks time (they play in the second week of the split round).

I have been nothing but very supportive of everything that Melbourne has done this year. I just think that in the long run, it would have been more beneficial for the 2 young guns to see up close how the best team possibly ever go about their business, as apposed to having a rest.

Thats all,

what does Bally and having a rest 2 weeks before another rest have anything to do with this topic?

Bally was injured and the Saints continued to play him. These 2 young guns are not.

Silly comment really.

I am allowed to have an opinion, I don't agree that it was just injuries, I think he could of benefited from being rested in his young career. As could of many other AFL players, I think Melbourne has done a good thing.

I respect your opinion, but Bally's injuries did not come about until after 2005 when he won then Saints B&F and was All Australian. That's some 3 years after him being drafted.

Yeah, because you know so much more about our players' welfare than say...our coaches and conditioning staff...

Sure, I'm disappointed to not see them running around on Saturday but when you're playing the best team in the league with the best midfield, you can't afford to have guys who are still physically exhausted from the previous week.

Also, it's not as if our inclusions aren't important. Warnock will take the important Mooney or Podsiadly matchup. Bruce will look to continue his good form playing on Steven Johnson and Jordan Gysberts will debut, who has been fantastic so far for Casey.

Shocking decision? Soft? Yeah.... ok. Because you are able to best judge the needs of our young talent from all the information you gathered from what, one article behind your computer screen? I honestly don't know why you aren't a senior coach.

t5he bye or the so called split round that isn't a split round, is only a few weeks away. why not wait till then

I don't think it's a resting because of just built up fatigue. I think it's more because the game last Saturday night took so much out of them.

Don't see what the problem is at all.. The tigers did it with Martin a few weeks back also against the cats at Skilled.

It's a long season for these boys. Playing at level of intensity that they're not used to against some AFL hardened seasoned bodies is bound to take it's toll..

Just good player/list management if you ask me..

would have thought youd put your best team on the park against the ladder leaders...

The team predicted to perform the best on the day, yes. If Scully and Trengove pulled up sore from training then they most likely were not in that team. They're good young players but they're not good or experienced enough yet to warrant half-fit selection.
