Do West Indies still deserve test status?

They're so incompetent they must make their brothers who represented them with distinction squirm. It's embarrassing to see how bad their bowling has become, them drop catches, and their batting a shadow of its former self. With their small population and so many of them now turning to soccer it's hard to ever seem them becoming a force again. Perhaps Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and the Windies should play each other in tests but games against the better nations be considered internationals that don't count to test records. It's skewing the records to have wickets and runs recorded against this rabble of a cricketing entity.

Their batting lineup alone is enough to justify their continued status. While they have had bad days, a lineup containing Gayle, Lara, Chanderpaul and Sarwan is dangerous.

Their bowling needs some work, yes.

Lara has been a champion but Gayle despite his 300 (not so uncommon these days), does not pay the bowlers enough respect to be a considered a true threat at test level.

Cricket without the Windies would be like pizza without beer. Plus, every side has a turn at sucking. That's the way sport works!

they haven't won an overseas series since 1994 (except for bangladesh and zimbabwe).

the windies have been awful for some time now and are rightly so ranked 8th.

i think ice goddess has started this thread on the back of one poor day by the windies (which has been the norm for some time).

their bowling has been their problem since their greats retired, a glimpse at the averages would've told you that though. don't know how bravo didn't get a game though. the only other bowler on tour is tino best. not alot of options for the windies and perhaps time for those who said the windies could win the series in other threads to perhaps have a re-think.

Take away test status? you cant just take away every team that sucks, sport is like this, you have teams that suceed and then it will be there turn to fail. How many teams will there be left if you took away all the teams that get thrashed by Australia. This is how teams develop, by playing in the big league

they lost ambrose and walsh quickly.. take away warne and mcgrath and theyd be 1 wicket down and we wouldnt be having this arguement.. id hold off on slagging off other teams until those two retire b/c we mite be starting threads about how much our bowlers suck in a few years time, as watson (god forbid) is taking the new ball!!

To be fair, Australia make any team look second rate IN Australia.
We've seen these one sided 8 wicket/400 run thrashings in tests here for years.

True how true... I reckon if they persist with these young guys coming through now who knows what the future will hold for em....

Ice goddess, will you be asking this very question about Australia when we start going down the rankings?
I mean at the moment McGrath and Warne are just masking our bowling problems. Wait a couple years when they retire.

When you've been at the top their's only one way down.

Oh and how can your compare a team that has ******** Brian Lara and Gayle in it to Bangladesh and Zimbabwe?

What is their excuse for ********e ground fielding? Why don't they at least try and get Ponting and Hayden out instead of uninspiring field placings and second stringers bowling. Why pick 4 quicks if you're too scared to bowl them? Agreed Warne and McGrath camouflage our batting fragility but surely we'll never decline to the rate they have. The fact that we have weaknesses yet make them look Z grade is testimony to how poor they really are.

Well, from eddie's comment, I thought everybody was saying hey should be removed...should have known the paperboy gets things wrong all the time.....

The Windies will be back- give them another couple years with these guys and they will be terrorising the Aussies soon...and the easy wins of 1995 to 2005 will be forgotten.

A big problem is, which guy replaces Lara when he hangs them up? That will be a big worry....

Bangladesh and Zimbabwe- that's another story...they are like playing Pommy county sides....while there is clearly a learning curve, how long do you give- and with Zimbabwe, there are signs of regression rather thana dvancement- Bangladesh, on the other hand, seem to be developing, albeit slowly.

Answer- west Indies stays, although, for now, they are in the bottom half of the Test ladder

brothers? i'm sure they wouldn't appreciate that.

The only problem for Australia is the same names are dominating: Ponting, Warne & McGrath.. the veterans, without them would this game be so one-sided? i doubt it.

Plus that Lara decision was a game breaker 2/135 became 3/135 and Windies collapsed.

Lara is about to take borders record of most runs scored. In my opinion, he then deserves to be called the best batsman in the world ever. If you dont go with my opinion, you will admit he is one of the best batsman in the world ever.

Add that to chanderpaul, samuels, gayle and sarwan and you have a pretty impressive batting line up.

However, this batting line up is under pressure because their bowling is not up to standards. When you have gayle bowling more overs than the full time bowlers, you know something is wrong.

But definitely should not lose their test status.

Yes although its arguable India are much chop either.

Um, ok, the team to have consistently given us the most trouble over the years?

An astoundingly stupid comment, mate.

They gave us trouble in one series, 2001, the series here we were missing our two best bowlers.
