The GOATs:

Collingwood : G. Coventry
Essendon : Reynolds
Fitzroy : Bunton
Footscray : Whitten
Fremantle : Pavlich
Geelong : Ablett snr
Gold Coast : Ablett jr
GWS : NA
Hawthorn : Matthews
Melbourne : Barrasi
North Melbourne : Carey
Port Adelaide (power) : Treadrea
Richmond : Jack Dyer
St. Kilda : Lockett
Sydney (incl south) : Skilton

I listed fitzroy and Brisbane separately as they were distinct clubs prior to 96. Sydney/ South was a relocation, therefore is a single record.

Thoughts and alternate views welcome.

Pretty good list except for Carlton. Don't want to weigh into their all time best but the best of seen play for them is Diesel Williams. He was better than Bradley. In fact, Williams is one of the best players I've ever seen. I think Sticks was better also.

Wow, those are the greatest players ever on the AFL. Good job!

Why even post?

Yep, Carlton was tough. 300 Games just for Brad over the line, but thinking on it, Diesel was the better player.

Also Struggled with St Kilda (Barker), North (Glendenning), Footscray (Sutton) and WCE (Various). Port was also tough, but I always respected Tredders as a player, but not a bloke.

Found Port & WC tough to choose.

Hirds the best Essendon player I've seen but there are old timers that argue that Hutchison was a better player. Hird was also rated behind Coleman and Reynolds in the champions of Essendon list which was released in 2002.

Eagles is pretty hard. not much seperating Cousins, Matera, Jakovich and Judd imo. Cox would be fifth imo, and not that far behind.

You had better put John Coleman in the Essendon list.

You say that like it's a certainty. Going by reports from all the old timers, Reynolds, Hutchison and Coleman we're all pretty close. EFC named Reynolds our greatest of all time in 2002, so going to back the clubs decision on that one.

There's a lot of legends and great players from each club on these lists and it's hard to list just one. It would be great to have seen them all.

The Hawks were very fortunate so it is hard to select just one, but I think probably Lethal, just (915 goals, later start as a small forward) over Knights ( star!) Hudson (129 games 727 goals @ 5.63 per game) Dunstall (1254 goals). Less premierships without any of those players.

A McLeod sorry Roo
B Black sorry Brownie. Voss the best leader, but never the best player.
C Jezza sorry Big Nick & Sticks. Never saw Nick play. Jezza is Ukrainian, hence my bias. I used 2 go 4 them b4 Freo began :)
Coll Bucks easy
E Hird sorry Mr Reyolds, never saw you play
F Pav. big Sandi 2nd
G Gazza snr or Polly?
GC Gazza Jnr
GWS ? Palmer? :D
H Matthews no contest IMO, but loved Dermie as a player.
K Carey by a long long way
M b4 my time but Barassi? of the ones I saw, Stynes
PP Tredrea no worries. He was a superstar
R Rioli (personal opinion. never saw a better big game performer, with probably McLeod 2nd) Richo 2nd, but probably many others more worthy. don't mean to be disrespectful
S Kelly Goodes 2nd. Kell was just such a great player & also such an amazing leader. sorry Mr Skilton, never saw you play.
SK Rob Harvey, sorry Mr Baldock
WC Judd by the proverbial mile plus daylight. Matera 2nd
WB must be Whitten, but before my time so I will go the massively under-rated Chris Grant.

Sorry for oversights of players I never saw. No offense was intended.

I have watched from 1991 onwards
