Impey will be on the list 2024 no doubt.

I don't get the Worpel hate.

It's not hate, it's just that there are a lot pushing for a spot in the midfield and we can't continue to carry poor disposers post this season. fwiw, I really hope it clicks for him disposal wise as he will become a very dangerous weapon.

I agree that Taranto is a better player, but I just don't think its by that much.
He has the same flaws as Worpel, a year older but is seen in such a different light to be given a 7 year deal. I don't think the difference is that much.

They are quite similar, offering similar strengths and the same weaknesses.

Though Taranto was playing good football over the last few years (bar an injury affected 2020), whilst Worpel toiled away.

I reckon if Worpel had played to the same level at Taranto post 2019 (2021 and 2022 especially) then he'd have had some big offers to consider.

Taranto is a far better player than worpel despite the tigers paying too much, but he also was a pick 2 and worpel 45 so it’s to be expected. Taranto wins the ball more consistently but what really sets him apart is he can go forward and kick goals.

Agree I have seen no hate for worpel, it’s list management and what the coach wants. Newk worpel nash stephens long Maginness hustwaite would seem the inside mids and that’s too many. Newk Nash safe, stephens HH new, long showing signs. Worpel and Maginness the bad users with no second role hence one likely to go. For me I think Finn is gone but if a good offer came for worpel given depth in that position you would have to consider it.

Perhaps we’re giving lots of minutes to Worps so he can get his numbers up and be a more appealing trade at the end of the season?

Assuming he has a great season and averages 25+ disposals per game, would that net us a late first round or early second round draft pick?

This is exactly what we are doing IMO.

And at his best Jiath's a real game changer; the kind you'd want to hold on to rather than trade out. He showed dramatic improvement a year or two ago. I tend to think it's a two steps forward one step back scenario - all part of his development. These first few rounds are not indicative of where he ends up as a player is my feeling.

Could he play Midfield or Forward and add that kind of Buddy talent to our forward line.

His on-field coaching would be massive for our young group.
He would understand Sam’s plan & be the teacher of this on field

I think we should have kept Liam Shiels for the experience I feel.

Yep

If we trade out CJ it will bite us on the arse as he will most likely go a team like Sydney or Melbourne and become an absolute star

I doubt it unless something went back the other way. Happy for him to stay but as I’ve said many times before he would be a much better player if he played a little more within his limitations. He had 35 sure but 13 turnovers and 54% DE, he needs to win clearance then put Day Ward Mackenzie Newk into space then he’s incredibly valuable.

During our golden era we only carried 1 ball butcher on the list. It was part of the reason Joey Kennedy was moved on. We currently have at least half a dozen on the list.
Langford? He actually won a premiership

Langfords ball use turned to sheet after his premiership year. Didn’t last much longer. Sewell and Shiels were the only 2 to go the distance because they were elite at what they did off the ball
Langfords ball use was always a bit iffy mate

That’s what the made the last few years of Clarkos reign even more perplexing. Used to have a can’t kick can’t play policy, then went and recruited Frost, Vickery, Impey, Mitchell and JOM. Staggering.

Except that he doesn't. He's kicked 1 goal in 5 games. Worpel has kicked 2 in 5.

True

I still don't know if in today's football:

It is too hard to slice the way through the field with precise kicking due to the way zones are set up?, or you still can?

You can get by with absolute bulls getting it forward at costs to electric forwards?

Probably need both a combination of skill and bulls...

I agree that Taranto is better, but I wouldn't say goal kicking is really a strength of his. He's had two double-digit goal scoring seasons to date.

He does provide some pressure when playing forward though and seems to be an OK mark. I think he's a bit better as a forward compared to Worpel, but it's neither here nor there though.

The bulls need to get their hands on the ball and move it forward. The best we have is Newcombe and after that it falls away fast.

Is Nash already the best version we could hope for Finn?

I sort of felt the game Nash played on the weekend is going to put real pressure on Finn moving forward.

From what I've seen, I haven't seen Finn as a strong clearance player at all, and his running power is never going to be used to generate attacking plays. Like Weddle's may be.

I think Finn's role is purely as a tagger, so it largely comes down to is this something Sam wants long term. Every chance it is.

Perhaps, but Nash has had a heap of time in the AFL system and Finn is only just getting started. I agree that Finn needs to develop some tricks because being just a negating stopper is going to be hard to make it.

Imagine if he became a Cam Ling for us. Stop the best midfielder while also becoming dangerous the other way?
