Player Watch Pick #18 (2019) - Mitch Georgiades

Dont know if anyone else noticed, but in both of Dixons mark/goals, Georgiades' hands were directly behind Dixon's ... In the first one it is Georgie's mark, until Dixon slides in front to take it. Easily would have slotted another two if they werent competing with one another in marking contests

Once Dixon goes, this boy will go to the next level!

Has easily been our best kf since he’s returned

Also of note, both of Dixon’s big clunk marks were taken by coming across and snatching them from Georgiades who was sitting under them and 100% had them. So could easily have been a 4 goal haul for Mitch.

I can’t ******* wait until Dixon is gone and our forward line is Mitch , Todd and one of lord / Scully.
Yeah I said that earlier too, he pinched them from Mitch bastard lol

100%. Once Dixon goes to the Big Garage in the sky, the forward line should be very exciting. And obviously a new coach would help that a lot.

God how much talent does he have.

Looks so fit.

SPP looks rustier after a month off than Mitch with a year off
MG did play in preseason and the SANFL etc.

SPP only played 1 preseason game and then no SANFL - so is at least 5 recent games behind. No surprise at all. I was expecting him to be our sub.

Shining light so far
7 goals in 3 games is a great return
I always pigeonholed him as a one dimensional full forward type, similar to Hodges
But first game back he hit some contests up on hf/ wing, won a contested ball & shot out a beautiful handpass to a player running on goal. I never thought he had that field play skill/ vision

I get the sense he has the most upside of the three (MG, Marshall, Lord) provided he doesn’t have recurring trouble with the ACL. I like the idea of our main key forward being a more athletic type than Dixon, hopefully the end of Dixon’s career will see an end to the “bomb it to Dixon” plan we have entering 50 and Mitch can make the most of it.

Great pack mark and then sold conversion from 35-40m out on a 45 degree angle that was a steadier which in the end was the match winner by Mitch.

After his goal kicking yips this season, I wasn't confident he would convert it. But he did and I dipped my lid to Mitch.

I have been watching Charlie Curnow the last few weeks and think this is the type of player that what I would like Mitch to end up being like.

Both are 192cms, Charlie 96kgs vs Mitch's 92kgs, both have had ACL surgery and missed a year, although Charlie only played 4 games in 2nd seasons after his surgery, both have a great leap, both are very athletic and both are better on the lead and jumping at the ball, and both can get up the ground and be a target up on the wing and at half back.

Charlie is stronger and better than Mitch in a wrestle with the gorilla defenders. Don't know if Mitch well ever get as strong as Charlie.

Including the year he had off and didn't play any AFL games, this is Charlie's 9th year and Mitch's 5th.

After tonight's game Mitch has played 55 games for 75 goals. At end of 2019, Charlie's 4th season, he had played 58 games for 77 goals. He then did his ACL in the 2019/20 preseason

Gee you've killed him there REH. Curnow is a freak, MG is never getting near that level.
Charlie has great athleticism. I don't think he is a freak. Mitch has great athleticism but isn't as strong as Charlie.

Why not aim high if you are going to copy someone you want to play like. Plus its a 22 year old vs a 27 year old.

I've had that comparison in my mind for a couple of years too.

Yeah, I see it.

I had him down as a Gary Rohan type but since he's come back from injury, he's looked good and should move in the Curnow direction.

Bailey Fritsch but slightly better aerially and worse at ground level

People realise Curnow is on track to win a third consecutive Coleman yeah? I don't see the similarity in either game style or potential future output.

Would love to see him become a ~2 goal a game type player who is a serious aerial threat and can take some heat off Lord or whoever the future #1 key forward is. He's not that far away from being that player but just needs to find a way to get more involved more often.

He could absolutely be just as good as Curnow. And as you point out a fair age and experience difference as well which gives him plenty of time to get to where Curnow is at now.

Experience and muscle will prove him to be one of the hardest forwards to match up on in the league. He is not a hard gainer. I look forward to seeing his improvement after his next preseason.

He is the same height as Carey who played at 97kg. I'm not an expert but I think 95kg would do him nicely if he is indeed 92kg.
