Agree, but should the AFL intervene and give us something to at least make us more interesting - or do the AFL let us suffer and keep losing our fan base (would have over 80,000 members if competitive).

We seem to have copped the wrong end of the stick by:
1. suffering from free agency - do we deserve compensation as Waite, Betts, etc. keep playing as we got nothing for them (other than Daisy).
2. being penalised far more seriously than any team in history (apparently cheating the AFL equality measures by systematically doping all your good players is considered not as bad as giving a few guys a brown paper bag or two with a few $). We were unable to trade and lost more picks. Surely the AFL could reconsider that and at least give us a few of our picks back (making it a suspension of picks rather than complete loss).
3. Suffered compromised drafts due to the expansion teams. There was so much less depth in several draft years as some players were taken out of the draft and other teams were compensated for losing players by getting early picks. Not surprising our picks were rubbish in that period. Makes it really hard to improve.
4. Had our home ground (that kept us viable financially) made redundant (by Docklands) with no compensation. This lack of finance destroyed our facilities and in turn our player development.

- We take Sloane as a FA. 4 years @ $850k. Front load and taper off over the 4 years (doesn’t matter if it’s us, another club will). Anyway, Adelaide gets first round compo after it’s first pick. As it stands, Adelaide gets Pick 18 as well as its other Picks (10, 17 and 20).

- We would have Picks 1, 25 and 35.

A simpler version might look like ... (remember it is SOS simpler)

We give up 1, 25 and 35 and our 2019 first
Adelaide gives up 10, 17, 18 and 20 and its 2019 first
Brisbane gives up picks 2 and 21 (Keeps its 2019 first)
Gold Coast gives up pick 7 (keeps pick 6 and 2019 first)

We get picks 2, 17, 21 and Adelaide’s 2019 first.
Adelaide gets picks 1, 35 and our 2019 first.
Brisbane gets picks 7, 18 and 25.
Gold Coast gets picks 10 and 20.


Not perfect I know, spitballing to be honest, but we have SOS and this is what it might look like on a whiteboard somewhere ... cue ferrisb

A simpler and more realistic outcome is that we get pick 1 as a PP then we will have picks 1 and 2.
IMHO we easily have the weakest list and we need real immediate assistance.
Other teams have received in the recent past and we must get it.

That's not realistic at all. No chance in hell do we get pick #1 & #2 this year.

We need it. As Robert Walls said tonight on fox sports, Carlton risks losing a whole generation of supporters because they keep losing and losing badly. He was there yesterday. Young ppl,kids and adolescents, don’t want to barrack for losers.

Robert said he has 7 grandchildren and one has just switched from Carlton to Richmind. He said he doesn’t blame her. He said that Carlton is no longer a great club. He is right.

Carlton MUST insist on preferential treatment.

How delusional can you get? You do realise it isn't up to me right?

You can whine all you want, we are not going to get handed pick #1 and #2. We'll get one of those picks because of where we finish and that's it. IF we get a priority pick it'll be #19.

It's not whining, the rebiuding can 6 to7 years at least.
The AFL will come around by end season and agree it's untenable to have one of the historically critical clubs spanked and demoralized at will, not good for the image of the game. They'll have to act no doubt.

Have you been under a rock for the past 17 years? When we were absolute s**t week after week, the AFL went ahead and changed the rules around priority picks which screwed us even further. So if they've been happy to let us rot for that long then logic suggests they'll allow it to continue.

You think they're gonna give us pick #1 as a priority pick? keep dreaming.

we'll be more competitive once we get some players back after the bye round anyway.
 
A little bit of carrying on here. We have played finals more recently than GC, St Kilda and Brisbane, all teams who could be in the bottom 4. So they can make the same arguments as us. Also when we deliberately weaken our side by letting players like Gibbs and Touhy leave (it was the correct call by us) than it's abit rich to than complain about just how bad we are.
If we win under 4 games I highly doubt we won't get a PP but it will be 19
 
We will lose the next two by 60+ and go to the bye with 4pts and 50%. It won’t look good. There will be more pain. If rumours are true Murphy, Charlie and fisher won’t get up. Plowman, Kruezer, Wright and SPS playing injured. We will have to go in with our youngest ever team the next two weeks. Polson, cuningham, Weitering and Shaw could be in for those. It won’t be good. I’m in it for the long haul but I’m bro gbreslistic the next two weeks we need to go in expecting aa such and great heartened when we get closer (if we can). The bye cant come soon enough.

we didn't have a choice with Gibbs. He was contracted and wanted to leave.
