Game Day Pre-Season - West Coast vs Adelaide (Fri)

Did Barnett play in the 2nd game with the reserves? Anyone see how he went?

Also didn't really notice Doedee much, not sure if that's good as he was blanketing his player or if he playing too far off them to have an impact.

McAdam was excellent he's very good at delivery the ball inside 50 needs some credit as over the preseason it seemed he missed a bit of it but looks in great condition
i thought doedee's pre season games have been v solid, no issues there

P.S.
Thanks to @VardyMagic for the "Dance moves" compilation.

Super-slick stuff by Rachele, Soligo, Pedlar et al.:D
I haven't seen that kind of sharpness since McLeod/Edwards/Porplyzia and, of course, Eddie..

What's happened to those blokes? Burgess? Mindset? Change-up of game plan/positioning?
The mob that beat WC on Friday night would belt the 2022 Crows.

I think it’s more that they’ve been given a real opportunity..

not just dumped at half forward/forward pocket and not really bought into the game.

Soligo, Rachele and Pedlar all spent time on the ball and attended centre bounces and were able to show what they can bring when they are given free reign to get in amongst it around the ground.

just watched the replay.. Rachele was awesome. Some of his play making between the arcs was immense.

let the kid loose..

Opportunity and time. An extra preseason is worth a bucket load early in a players career

What instantly jumps out of the page is TOG for Berry and Soligo in relation to their relative output. The midfield is suddenly in good hands, it feels.

So Laird and Berry are the mainstays and the rest rotate. Thought Schoenberg would have got more time.

We are definitely taking the shorter kick option and using that to move up the field. The quicker it happens, the more it shifts the oppo defence who are trying to run all the way back to cover the deep 50.

Vastly different to last year's movement which was pretty much the bomb down the line and try to compete at the contest / reset.

No better example of this than Crouchs new attacking mindset which is great to see. Every time he gets it now it's eyes forward.

Yeah that’s true. They are also more versatile upforward than Berry and Laird.
It's just such a breath of fresh air to see how we're working our midfield rotations, thus far - not just having a bunch of players capable of running through there, but actually doing it and not just using four guys week in, week out

Hopefully it continues

I know I like to quote myself 😁 so I’ll do it again.

When we drafted Rachelle, Soligo and Taylor a year after Pedlar, I hoped the plan was to play them as rotating small forwards/mids. Small forwards if they are being held don’t tend to contribute at all. But if they can play mid then it gets them involved and they still contribute.

Throw in Rankine as well and now we’ve got multiple small forwards/mids who can play dual roles.

If we’ve planned it it’s smart list management and recruiting.

Yep, you can never have too many guys that are smart and clean in traffic - arguably the main trait which allows Rachele/Soligo/Rankine to look top-notch in both areas of the ground. Seems like Pedlar will be more of a permanent forward this year, but hopefully will join them in the future

Ginbey looks like he will be a gun. Great pick up for them.

Agreed, we have so much flexibility now with 6-7 guys we can rotate through the midfield.

We went from having a midfield full of guys who could not play anywhere else, to now basically everyone in there who can play other roles.
