Can we for the love of god start adding some diversity to our centre bounce or even midfield? Can we give MJR and even hotton a roll through role like we used to give Shedda, bolton and others? Feel that we need some x factor around the pill and TT, Hopper, Prestia, Ross for the game gets stale.

Alger and Armstrong available this week

Out Kosi, Sonsie
In Armstrong, Alger

No VFl this weekend

I’d have Jasper in…but Armo shouldn’t be rushed…has been off for too long

too many on here getting carried away with youngs game... bloody good thats for sure, but the sympathy and encouragement factor massive, considering first game back from a bad acl just goes to show most supporters wear their heart on their sleeve where coaches are more practical. ;)
I haven’t been a fan of, thought it was the best game I’ve seen him play . Had composure which I haven’t seen him have before

Literally have more premierships than you, freo and saints combined. Plus we were never found guilty of drug use. You scraped a win against a full vfl side, with your best team, in what’s now considered one of the worst games ever played. I wouldn’t be too optimistic for your “future”.

Bumping people is unnecessary? I guess tackling and kicking goals is unnecessary 🙄
What was on the line in this game? Not much. Two shite teams , playing shite. I still get cranky thinking about Richo getting pushed into the fence in Sydney and doing his knee. ****ing dirty , both acts the same .

He didn’t push him into the fence, and the injury wasn’t on landing. Could have happened anywhere on the field.
I honestly can’t even believe I’m reading this. It’s mind boggling, it was a fair bump, in play.

Lmao how did Harley get off that trip, he tried to torp Boak into the grandstands 😁

(Which I hope Boak enjoyed 😉)

Lynch would never be allowed to play football again. Unbelievable that’s not suspension, he’d have got suspended in the 90s for that.

It's unnecessary to bump them on the boundary line. I know the injury didn't occur from that, but only bad things can happen when you knock someone on to the much harder surface that surrounds the ground and of course the fence.

I really don't understand why the surrounds can't be SOFTER than the ground itself. Wouldn't that be more sensible?

Wonder if the mcg got their astroturf from this bloke

All good in theory but vs Essendon they had a 4-2 outnumber behind the ball at virtually all times.

Leading patterns I agree with... that forward craft and symmetry will come.

Centre corridor rarely had our guys running through there when we were bringing the ball out and a couple of times we tried it, we didn't execute the kick. A bit gun-shy at the moment.
I'm talking defensively. It was WIDE open so many times tonight.

It should just be the same imo. Going from hard to soft could cause issues as well.

I remember that season! We played Essendon in the finals and beat them after we were down about 46 points in the 3rd.

If Richo had not done his knee that year I think we would have won the flag. Shame about Northey bailing at the end of the year for the Bears.

I just wanted us to stay competitive for 4 quarters, I just didn't expect that kicking 3 goals for the first 3 quarters would be the way we stay competitive. Great to win, despite how horrific the game was.

A big positive of this season has been Brown and Banks and how they have established themselves as nailed on best 22 players.

Brown has immensely improved his defensive ability, he is rarely beaten and matches up really well on medium/small forwards. He has plenty of pace and is more than adequate at ground level. Add that to his natural intercept game and his brilliant use by foot, he has the potential to be one of the best defenders in the league in the coming years.

One thing that their development has reiterated to me, is how long it can take kids coming into the AFL to play consistent footy. Both Brown and Banks essentially had 2 years of development before playing a game at senior level (Banks played 6 in 2023 and Brown played 1). It hasn't been until this year (their 4th year) that they have strung consistent performances together. There were signs in 2024 that they were developing nicely and coming along, but 4 years in the system is generally what it takes young players to start to consistently influence games.

Just some perspective on what we expect from our 2024 draftees and any incoming talent beyond this year. Clearly there will be exceptions, guys who can slot straight in and impact consistently. Patience is key and while that may not be pretty sometimes, it is the reality. Some fans won't want to hear this but the reality is we probably won't see the best of Lalor, Hotton, Smilie, Faull etc until 2027-2028. The kids are good, they just need time.

When they showed Taj Hotton's parents in the crowd on the TV, it looked like John Northey next to them.
Could be mistaken though.
