ive always disliked the interpretation of holding the ball that if you have an arm pinned and you dont get rid of it then its a free. its a bit unfair to the ball winner because its pretty hard to dispose of it correctly in the position, and you dont get prior opportunity. it also encourages players to pin the arm in tackles, leaving the ball carrier open to be taken to ground not being able to protect themselves. the whole thing has always struck me as unecessarily dangerous.
