s**t! Just saw each side's line ups. What color shade of green is the pitch? South Africa have 5 fast bowlers, bit of overkill, and India have 4 fast bowlers plus Pandya. No Ashwin.

They seem to be only picking 5 specialist batsmen and a keeper, weakens their batting. I reckon our bowling line up will expose that. Definitely seems overkill

It does beg the question watching this, though, as to why Asian nations are so maligned when they turn out pitches that are this tough to bat on, simply because it is spinners and not pacemen that are favoured.

Philander 1/1 from 6 overs. Fair start...

Load up on the Saffers 4-0 lads, our boys won't fire a shot on these pitches.

Personally I love watching both
Love it when it spins and love it when it swings/ seams
Inflated batting records around the world are testament that the game is too far in favour of batsmen
Conditions like this sort the pretenders and flat track bullies out

I simply don’t see why this gets raised so often. It’s a team playing aggressive, positive cricket and backing itself. They know their bowling is a strength, they know that in home conditions they have an attack that can be nigh on impossible to handle, the know that such a relentless approach can reap rewards.

Despite everyone’s apparent inability to accept it, India have a damn decent pace bowling unit. At various times each one of ABDV (thrice), Faf (twice), Markram, Elgar and Amla have all stood up when the moment needed them to. It’s been enough to win them two tests in tough batting conditions.

Yeah ok, having 6 batsmen and two bowling all rounders weakens the batting, but I’d take their 6 guys all averaging a minimum of 41 over most other sides who have 2-3 holes in the 7 batsmen that they’re playing.

Just sat down to crack a cold Stone and Wood and I see India are already 2 down. Very disappointing- will be good to watch the Vernon show though.

You continually criminally underate the SA batting
They have the skill and toughness needed for these pitches
We have continually been shown to lack that when the ball moves

That's because they don't make alot of runs and collapse very quickly when there's few out. You haven't been following this series too closely have you. Once they're 4 out they fallen away very quickly. They're not handling a moving ball well when India are bowling to them, will have much more trouble with our line up. Once Australia are there they'll be regular pitches. We've rarely had an issue in SA, bar getting bowled out for 47 once after then made 96. It's one country we have always performed. We keep beating them there. What's going to change.

Their batting isn't great. Doubt they'd produce juiced up pitches for our bowling line up

This can’t be serious. Regardless of australia’s Impressive record over there, it’s a known fact that when surfaces are doing a bit, australia are subcontinentally shite. At least SA have the knowledge that 5 of their 6 batsmen are absolutely proven in billiard-table conditions.
