Yes a Mitchell type.

We have plenty of class on the outside they just aren't getting anywhere near the amount of loose balls we'd want them to be getting because our midfield is just getting smashed week in week out. We need someone other than JPK who can win that first possession and get it out to the Florent, Heeney, Cunningham types and that someone will not be Newman or Robinson, both of whom we've tried and failed as inside mids.

I'd much rather we go after a player who can work through outside and inside but only in a group than someone who can only work inside and none outside despite being part of a group

It's enough to be dangerous still. What's the point in having class though if there's nobody to win the ball for them? I mean does Horse & co actually seriously think Newman, Robinson and the unproven Dawson are going to form our next dominant midfield trio ? There's no one on our list besides maybe Hewett (tagger) and maybe Heeney who looks even slightly beast-like in the middle.

But we have those types. We've already seen what Florent and a newly-confident Cunningham can do and it's pretty exciting when you also consider that we have Heeney distributing the ball as well and covering ground. But when it's stoppage time, or a centre bounce, we used to win so many games by just dominating and getting first use of the ball and then being near-impossible to win it back off. This "current ground" you speak of, who are they? Exactly who is going to be at the centre bounces stopping a repeat of that Geelong game two weeks ago where we just couldn't win any territory? Heeney? who else?

Mitchell's problem is not actually his problem but the Hawks. He wins it plenty times but when it turns over by any Hawk player, they haven't enough players runnng back hard.
Brisbane got them like this last week.

This fellow is ready to go & would be exactly what we are looking for.

He looks to have a suspect tank to me, but I could easily be wrong. Just seems to slow down mid way through third quarters to me.

Jones/Lloyd playing back and mids
Papley/Ronke going up the ground at times

O'Riordan hopefully staying in good form can allow Jones more mid time.
And if Hannerbery can get back to his best we would be looking pretty good.
Dawson another card but he'd want to pick up form soon.

You can never have too many good mids tho.

Anthony Miles isn't one tho, wouldn't improve us

David Swallow is just a guy imo. Nothing special, and in hindsight was a bad pick for #1 overall.
Another one who is injured too often as well.

I rate Lonergan.

Like I said doesnt have to be anything special just a solid number in the middle with a bit of grunt, just someone who can at least impact a game unlike Robinson etc

CEY is nothing special, far from it, he's dross, check out the Crows board opinions, I'd be mortified if we traded him in.

We want someone with toughness and explosiveness out of the middle, Jones should be used there and just find another half back runner.

Get Jones into the middle and put make Gary Rohan the half back runner. Speed. Good kick. We know he can play well there. The young kids are really providing that pressure up forward now. Moving Gary there would get Jones into the midfield, as well as Mills. If we still want some grunt in the middle, then we can go for Miles or someone like that. I wouldn't mind Brayshaw from the Dees, I reckon he'd be a handy player, out of contract this year too.

David Swallow is just a guy imo. Nothing special, and in hindsight was a bad pick for #1 overall.
Another one who is injured too often as well.

Swallow had IMO the best CV of any #1 pick, one of the best juniors to come out of WA in the past decade. He's far from a hack but he definitely hasn't lived up to the high expectations I had for him

Imo jaeger omeara was probably the best credentialed in recent times. Shame he has been riddled by injuries

O'Meara certainly had some good league performances before he was drafted, he kicked 4 goals on debut for Perth.

But Swallow won the Larke medal for the best player in the under 18 championships (ahead of all the top players from the year ahead of him - Scully, Trengove, Martin etc), and also made an immediate and comparable impact for East Freo seniors. Before he was drafted he also played a full year of VFL at a very high level. For me there's no draftee that can top that level of performance pre-draft, a full season of high level senior performance, part of another season of high performance in a different senior league, and beating out older players to be the best performed player at the championships.

Seems pretty good to me - highly paid, great lifestyle area, low pressure.

He won't win a premiership but nor will 90% of AFL players
