Well, except we didn't, so the rest of your post is probably garbage too.
Sydney and South Melbourne are technically two separate clubs. I remember reading a post from Roylion explaining how the Swans licence was transferred to a separate entity, hence the Swans selling their soul along with being under AFL control today, rather than being controlled by their members.

Port sold their soul when they ran out of money in 2011, and would have folded if it weren't for AFL intervention. It's similar to how the Swans sold their soul when they moved to Sydney.

Despite having a self proclaimed finance guru as their president, the club remains millions of dollars in debt. They couldn't afford to sack Hinkley last year because the AFL wouldn't allow it, thanks to their debt situation.

It's ironic how Port supporters have always called us a franchise, when their club has become the literal definition of a franchise as they are AFL controlled and will remain so indefinitely.

Meanwhile, we're set to become member controlled by 2028 and they're set to sign Hinkley for another two years. Someone in this thread mentioned Port are in no man's land as a club and they're spot on with that assessment, as Port can't afford to bottom out and do a proper rebuild like we've done and despite their ability to finish high on the ladder and make preliminary finals, they'll never seriously contend for premierships either.

You might be right but they’ve managed to get a side with enough youth to keep them around the top - Butters, Rozee, JHF as a starting point will win more midfield battles than they lose over the next 5 years.

Eagles 2018 are a great example. 2015 big GF loss, 2016 & 17 they made finals but were decidedly not contenders. They jagged it with multiple players having career best years.

Well 62,000 Sydney Swans members laugh at your suggestion they've "sold their souls" in any way. Maybe learn a bit about how another club operates before making ludicrous assertions from outside.

What a ******* load of bollocks.

Reeks of desperation to paint us in a bad light.

We never sold our soul, and coming from a fan of a club that was formed by a court injunction from rusted on sanfl troglodytes whose sole motivation was to stop port from entering the afl and instead install a puppet they could control is ******* rich.

Also, if ports so ******* skint, why the hell are we always middle of the road in the tables the afl releases of payments?

Port had to struggle against the sanfl leeches bleeding us dry for years and the only reason your club is out from their grasp now is cause port dragged you out.

Also the narrative we can’t afford to sack Hinkley is absolute bullshit. It’s made up hogwash to suit a narrative you’re selling. You have zero evidence to back it up. Yes it would be hard for us fans to get Hinkley out because our board, like yours is stuffed with afl puppets instead of member controlled.

Member controlled by 2028 is nice. Why the * would it take 40 years for a supposed powerhouse club to achieve this, if you do at all?

If crows fans weren’t so hyper focused on port and instead looked to how they could better their club they would be focused on why their club isn’t member controlled like the vic clubs and pressure that to change rather than waiting forever for it to happen.

Also don’t pretend crows meant to do a rebuild. You went all out for a premiership, crashed and burned as hard as anyone has seen in the blink of an eye. For all your “port will never contend” bravado we’re sitting second on the ladder and your club is content to play its grand finals as showdowns while appearing nowhere near any sort of success. Throwing stones from the bottom of the ladder lol.

Ports not a perfect club or team, and our members never really paint us as such but the air of superiority from Adelaide fans is laughable considering their club hasn’t achieved anything in decades but embarrass the afl with scandals.

Koch and Ken have seen Port significantly bridge the gap between Port and the Crows in terms of supporter base size.
Before they arrived at the club the gap between Port and the Crows supporter numbers was akin to the gap between West Coast and Fremantle.
Crowd and membership figures suggest Koch and Ken have done a good job to get Port to where they are today compared to where Port were when Koch and Ken arrived.

The era of Koch and Ken hasn't yielded any silverware but given how difficult it is for non Victorian clubs to win premierships, the best these clubs can realistically hope for is to have sustained periods of playing finals.
Port have the 3rd best win percentage of all clubs since Koch and Ken arrived. Port haven't played in a grand final during that time but they were unlucky to come up against triple premiership dynasty teams in the 2014 and 2020 preliminary finals.
Ken would have loved his sides to have been able to face opposition the calibre of the Sydney and Collingwood sides that Mark Williams sides had to face in the 2002 and 2003 finals.

Port betrayed the rest of the SANFL clubs by going behind their backs and attempting to gain entry to the AFL, and your club are middle of the road for AFL payments because the AFL are propping up the small Victorian clubs, the NSW clubs and the Queensland clubs.

Your club haven't been able to sack Hinkley because they literally haven't been able to afford it, as they're millions of dollars in debt and controlled by the AFL. St Kilda are millions of dollars in debt too, but the difference between them and Port is the fact St Kilda are a club controlled by their members, hence why they were able to sack Ratten last year.

However, your club have no one but yourselves to blame for being stuck with Hinkley, because your club signed Hinkley to unjustified long term contracts and your supporters had the nerve to cry foul about not being able to sack Hinkley for mediocre performance.

You would hope Port haven't jumped the gun and signed Hinkley prematurely yet again, given he's out of contract this year, but we all know David Koch won't get rid of a coach who has just qualified for the finals and you have to go back to Grant Thomas in 2006 to find the last time a coach was sacked after qualifying for the finals.

You’re just doubling down on your bullshit here, which I completely squashed earlier.

“You’re only mid table for equalisation payments because half the league is below you”

What a thing to say. Galaxy brain stuff.

We didn’t go behind anyone’s backs. we wanted to be in the afl. The sanfl said they didn’t want any part of it and the afl could get ****ed. Port still wanted to be a part of the afl because * those old dumb white dudes and their Sa great anti - vic small minded crap.

I’ll never not be amazed at crows fans defending the sanfl btw. They didn’t want you to exist and only gave in and created you as a way to not lose a sanfl club.

Would you have been happy if port didn’t force the sanfls hand and the crows never existed?

The sheer mind boggling stupidity at being angry that port forced the sanfl to… create the club you follow… ha. I’ll never not be amused at that one.

And sacking Hinkley has zero to do with money and everything to do with member control, the same boat your club is in brainiac.

Adelaide's Freo but are actually good...although 1 flag in 26 years isn't the best return. They're good in the home and away season, often are near the pointy end, yet have contended in 2 GFs, losing one by 119. It pains me they've got 4 minor premierships while we have 3 (not our forte).

Hinkley isnt a bad coach, but seems constantly in Port supporters sights, seems a bit excessive to me. Thought they were equal flag faves 5 weeks ago but now think another prelim sxit likely. But would rather they win than Collingwood.

Your club was the guinny pig to make us join the AFL. So smart arse, if you did happen to get a licence before us where were you going to play you’d games? SANFL wouldn’t allow you to use Footy Park. So you think you did us a favour by stabbing thd SANFL in thd back and trying to join thd VFL? Love how Port supporters love pating themselves on the back for that. We were fighting for a better deal Re licence fee etc.
haha well it takes simple minds to bd amused at why we could ever like our home comp. Yes the one that saved your club when it was on its knees financially!
So glad Ken will be still your coach gif thd next 2 years, more comedy to come lol

Wow what a well thought out and presented response

Also, from that mess you claim sanfl were arguing for better license fees etc.

That’s dumb as hell, how do you expect anyone to believe that?

The sanfl put it to a vote, it was rejected. They walked away.

There was no negotiation. It wasn’t knocked back on the proposal and sent back to argue terms.

It was just “* off afl”

And if port were no threat ie where we’re we going to play why did the sanfl take us seriously enough to get a court injunction and then turn around and do what they said they weren’t going to do (enter the afl)

And that rubbish about sanfl saving us. * me dead. The sheer stupidly.

The sanfl did nothing but bleed us dry, they were in your coffers as well.

Why the * do you think port and the crows did all they could to get away from them?

You think if sanfl was propping us up we would have moved heaven and earth to get away?

If the sanfl was such a bunch of saints why did the crows need to be free of them?
