Welcome Cam Mooney & Matthew Scarlett

This will make a big difference having 4 full time assistants now and a couple of specialist coaches as the line coaches don't have to spread themselves so thin, they can now focus more on the team and the opposition setups as a whole

I would imagine Matty Scarlett would have to be, at the very least, a decent mentor. Not many young defenders have stepped into the Cats senior line- up over the course of the past 10 years or so and not developed into pretty good players. You would assume Scarlett, given his standing, would have played some significant part in harbouring that development. You often hear from players around our club when asked as such that this is the case. He's leapt at the role too when many suspected he'd shy away from the game for a while which is a good indicator of his ambition for the job. Congratulations WBFC.

Great get by the Doggies. You've got yourself a couple of rippers there IMO. Best of luck to them and you guys for the future.

Really happy with this, two of my favourite non Dogs players of all time, Scarlett is easily the best full back I've ever seen and I really like Mooney too - not just when he was at Geelong but always knowledgeable and good to listen to on AFL 360.

Good work by the club.

This is good news. In fact, at a stretch, I'd say it's exciting. So where was the 48hr social media beat up about a forth-coming exciting announcement? Oh wait, they're not selling any shirts. Just can't please some people:rolleyes:

Love it!

Lake to the Hawks hurt us, but Scarlett to the dogs just makes me feel that little bit better :)

Scarlett would offer soom uch to teh young defenders with his attitude and knowledge of the game. Always liked him.

Mooney is always positive when talking about other players and concentrates on the positives rather then teh negatives. I would think he would help restore some confidence in our young tall forwards.

Great pick up well done dogs :) I am sure a few Geelong supporters could shed some light on the influence these guys must have on the club who have been following them a little closer then some of us.

Define "carried away"? Everyone's just happy two great players can pass on their experience to our young pups. Absoloutely nothing wrong with that.
Carried away is what most of the comments are on this thread.
Being a player is very different to being a coach. They might make great coaches but the fact is they have little to no experience in coaching.
Royce Hart was a great player too.

So do you support these one-day-a-week appointments, or would you prefer that we not employ Scarlett and Mooney?

I have no idea if they are up to the task or not.
I would have preferred full time employment and ones with a track record of coaching but they might prove they are up to it.

When words like massive, awesome and huge are used to describe appointments of 2 rookie part time coaches, it's getting carried away.

So you are against the club having made these appointments? Or are you just against anyone getting enthusiastic about anything the club does?

I'm neither positive or negative about them, I have no idea as to whether they will be any good or not. I like the idea of having recently retired players to help out part time and Scarlett especially will be well respected, but neither of them have any coaching experience and Scarlett is notoriously shy.

Have we just grabbed a couple of McCartney's old mates because no-one else would help us out or did we look at a number of players and chose the best candidates?

Steve Silvagni went OK as a player but was a disaster as a coach.

Your all missing the point boys and girls

Heres how it goes
Brendan McCartney calls a meeting with all the players for Mooney and Scarlett to talk to the playing group and explain why they have joined the bulldogs

We have joined the Bulldogs because we believe in this man Brendan McCartney, he was a major reason why the cats became a great side and we believe he can make the bulldogs a great side as well

When two players speak like that to a playing group of the calibare of Mooney and Scarlett it gives major credit to Brendan McCartney

According to you it is. To others it isn't.
