I would hope that given the Hawks paid so much of his first year that Freo front loaded his contract with us allowing the rest to be so tiny to not factor.

He is playing a really rubbish role and if he is also being paid comparatively peanuts to do it because we've already paid him the front ended deal then we are getting good value for that out of him.

It also means if another player outperforms him and pushes him out we don't have bulk cash playing at Peel.

I am sure that Hawthorn paid a massive amount, equal to an entire year's worth of salary, to him in the first year with us on their salary cap.

The opportunity is there for us to pay him a regular year's salary too, for a regular impact salary cap wise but for the player it's a massive front loaded deal and then the club gets cheap years later.

Hawthorn paid almost $500,000 to O'Meara for that first year.

We had shed something close to $1,500,000 off our books in contracted and contract offers to players just prior so we had the salary cap space to pay him $500,000 too that first year.

Turning a $2m four year contract into $1m first year and then average or below average salary for the remaining term.

They were definitely paying a good wack of his salary in either the first or first and second year of his new deal which effectively is front loading from our perspective irrespective of the exact numbers.
