So we came up with a good idea at work, with no footy on for the the foreseeable future. Which games would make up our ultimate season.

What would be our best round 1 win, best round 2 win and so on from any season and this would make up our perfect home and away season.

Early nomination for round 1;

Round 1 - 2005 vs Essendon. Troy Broadbridge memorial game.

The most depressing part of this will inevitably be finding a round where we haven't won a game in the last 15 years.

Round 2 wins that I remember are all dogshit, but in 2002 we beat Port Adelaide in the first of the three consecutive seasons they would finish as minor premiers. 2001 IIRC was our last win at AAMI Park, 3 points v the Crows.

Honorary mention: 1 point loss to eventual premiers Collingwood in 2010, Ricky Petterd dropping a mark in the square. This would have been the winner I reckon.

Reckon you've nailed R1, there's no topping that day.

Maybe some one who wants to and has more time could run a poll for each round based on nominations

hawks in 2002? When Neita shattered Mcabes collarbone. But typical melbourne let a massive lead slip just to hold on

2015vs GC. Went in as under dogs, after 3 very bleak years But we started the season with some hope. Also broke a 10 year round 1drought

I'm nit picking but the one where leoncelli kicked the winner was in 01. Unless you meant that and accidentally pressed 2 instead of 1 in that case ignore.

That round 14 win in 02 against Brisbane was unbelievable. It was actually our home game, anyway being 39 points down at one point against that team and to win pretty comfortably winning was amazing. My memory was taking my cousin to watch Scooby doo in the cinemas thinking we probably lost to find out we had won.

I was playing under 17s that year so our game started about 1/4 time of the afl game. So I went out to pay my game knowing we were 6 goals at 1/4 time. Then got told after my game the dees had won. Didn’t believe it until I saw the news.

Round 7 1999 vs Essendon it was high accurate scoring against a quality team, to put in perspective
Melbourne
6.2 12.5 17.7 20.14
Essendon
6.1 12.4 16.8. 17.11

Essendon only lost 4 games for the season.

Two low points from 97. Round 4 against the bulldogs, I can never think of a game that felt more fixed than that. The free kick count was 16 - 4 at half time despite us dominating. Then Luke Darcy was gifted a goal late for them to snatch the lead. That umpire retired after that game.

Round 11 vs Adelaide I just remember going and it was so depressing we only kicked 5 goals for the game against an interstate side not a lot of fun for a 10 year old. What made it worse was that it felt like more Adelaide supporters were there, at least where we were sitting.

I remember that bulldogs game well. I would have been seventeen. There was a girl around the same age sitting behind me with her foot pressing into my seat the entire game but I was too nice to say anything. Then the Luke Darcy free kick happened directly in front of me. Some ruck infringement in the goal square which gave the Bulldogs the lead with less than a minute to go. I elbowed the seat beside me in frustration and the girl started making a massive deal about it saying I could have broken her foot. All the built up frustration from having her foot pushing into my seat the entire game combined with the umpires decision made me turn around and tell her to go * herself.

How good. 😍

Wasn't it him hitting Hogan on the **** with the kicks.
History will reflect on our post Neitz/Robbo era as being a forward talent waste land, but God knows we've burned or gotten very unlucky with a few between Watts, Hogan, Clark, Jurrah and Weid + TMac's ongoing injury history. God knows we deserve it for drafting Lucas Cook over Darling though.

Crazy that the only bloke to crack 50 since Neitz was Brad Green.

I'd give anything to have Jurrah as our deepest forward right now. Our bombing inside 50 might actually make sense with him taking consistent hangers
Jurrah, Bedford and Pickett in the same forward line with Fritsch and Melksham (not sure what either of them was doing against WCE) kicking it in would be a better set up than anything we've had recently even without a key forward.

We had some solid talent in the forward line early 2000s neitz, robbo, davey, green, bruce, use all running through there. Also the delivery was pretty good, though the game was different then. Brad Green had such a beautiful kick you just knew he was going to score. Neitz was like that but later on started to get the yips. Yze was just a freakish talents just did things not many others could do.
