I for one am equally concerned for both players (what kind of psycho would not be?!), but highly suspect CFL will only act in the second case, or at some point later this year

The Starcevic one was body on body (no hands in the back at all) therefore it's a completely different situation.
We want to stamp out the gutless pushes from behind (and from the side) when players are airborne and therefore UNABLE to control their own momentum or to brace for contact. The Starcevic incident whilst terribly unlucky was actually as some have tried to call the "Ginbey push" a football action. Both players bodied up, one fell as a result of their shared (and intentional) contact and in falling his head came into contact with a player coming back with the flight's knee.

it was just more a case of pulling out of the contest while pushing the other guy into it

as you said before we might wish we aren't, but we are in a paradigm where outcome is king not intention

That may be the case but if the AFL are actually serious about reducing the incidents of head trauma then actions, not outcomes, are what need to be punished.

AFL is not a safe sport..

It is a high speed, contact, combative and collision sport.

So you say if someone is running at speed you should not be allowed to bump or push them sideways when contesting the ball?

How fast is too fast? How would players know when they can or cant based on speed?

Pushing in the back is unfair. Hands in the back to hold your position but not shoving is legal.

I like how I said it happens many times a game and was howled down, yet here we are.

Also, people are kidding if they think this can be policed properly. You just won't have marking contests anymore and it'll simply be a non contact sport.

don't see what that has to do with my point, this was the "primary" thread about the incident, and then subsequently any other incidents which occured (the second similarly got discussed), but the third didn't. maybe it's that vicbias i've heard so much about, or maybe it's because Lalor wasn't "nearly killed" as was implied throughout this thread, and instead has been named to debut tonight.
