heck i wanted hardwick sacked with the whole board in 2016.

But i dont think we should be expecting 8 years to become competetive again. The modern game we should expect to be in the top 8 by 2027-28

end i of 2022 i wanted us to pull the trigger on a rebuild but Harwick and co wanted to set us back a few years
There’s no way a rebuild was ever going to happen end of 2022. None. We hadn’t lost a game by more than 6-points since about round 6 of that season, and then lost an EF by a point at the GABBA - most of the second half of that season without Dusty. It just wasn’t a viable option given we still had about a dozen triple premiership players including multiple hall of famers still playing.

When we got TT and Hopper nobody thought a cliff was coming - and I mean nobody. We were third fav for the flag heading into 2023 at $8. Cornes and Kingy were talking about how unfair it was a dynasty team could pilfer the GwS of 2 x gun mids.

If you can find me a single article or BF comment PRIOR to the 2023 season that said Richmond had badly erred in trading for TT and Hopper and were heading for a cliff then I’d like a link.

It just wasn’t viable to tell Dusty, Jack, Lynch, Prestia, Edwards, Grimes and more that a rebuild was beginning. It would be like Collingwood doing that end of 2025 - do we think that’ll happen? Of course not… it’s just not an option.

The 2022 afl draft where we traded out our 1st round pick was not a total bust
we got Hopper & taranto and lost our pick that year in the 1st round but picked up
Seth Campbell ( easily worth a top 10 pick )
Kaleb Smith & Steely Green

Going foward we are now seeing how important Hopper & Tatanto are and we still plucked atleast 1 A grader

Covering Lynch atm is pretty tricky. Lefau not ready yet. Fawcett and Bauer were both poor in the VFL and they're also coming off a five day break.
  • Could go smaller, but that makes life harder for Faull and Sims
  • Could throw Brown forward
  • Could play Gray or Blight forward
  • Could bring Ryan straight in
It’s a night game. Definitely go smaller

Which efforts? So I can go back and watch them.
The effort on Larkey in the pocket where Larkey just easily bodied him out the way and I think Zuhaarr goaled, I'd say it was 3rd quarter and was down the city end

Second one I think was in the first quarter just before finnbar kicked his goal from a set shot.

What are you taking as the lesson? That you just give a coach eight years, and, hey presto, a flag? Despite having loads of talent on the list, we had to put up with seven 💩 seasons under Hardwick before we started playing consistently good football. Other clubs, they can go from finishing second-last to winning a premiership with a second-year coach. That's the model we should be learning from.
Almost never does a team with a super young and developing list win flags straight away. Clarko was in his 5th year in 2008. Fagan took 4-years to make finals, 8-years to make a granny and 9-years for a flag. Adelaide are making finals in Nick’s 6th year of a rebuild. GC has never made finals. GWS made finals in about their 6th year. North haven’t made finals. Demons made finals in 2018 after 6-years of building, with a flag coming after 9-years. Carlton made a PF final in 2023 after a decade of rebuilding.

I’m not actually sure why you ignore basically every bit of evidence in the last 25-years as to the timeline of finals/flag for a rebuilding side who’ve gone down a heavy reliance on youth?

I thought Lalor was about to rip open the game after his second goal. He busted through a tackle a few minutes after which led to Campbell’s snap.

I want to see him one out in the square Dusty style. How many free kicks has he drawn flying for marks? Once he clunks one in front of goal they will start shitting themselves.

Me too…was certain sammy would rip it apart but when he copped a hit in the bread basket, he wasn’t quite the same….must have copped it sweet bc Lalor is tough

There’s no “should have”. We improved rapidly, from 2010 to 2013, because we brought in/started getting good football from the likes of Cotchin, Martin, Riewoldt, Houli, and Edwards. In fact, as I mentioned in another post, we had half our premiership side by 2013, including all the prime movers. We absolutely could have won a flag in 2013 if, after 2012, we’d had the kind of review that we belatedly had after the train wreck of 2016.
Check our 2013 losing EF team. We weren’t winning a flag with that team… we were not getting close.
