So by my count we have opened up 6 list spots. Thus activating all of our picks with points allocated. :thumbsu:

If we have to utilise all of 41,44,57,59 and 60 to take IQ and Kelly we will be given 4 picks at the back end of the draft to make up the remaining list spots. I gather two will be the promotions of Mihocek and Thomas to the main list but we then have 2 more spots to fill.

I hope we use one on Atu B (not sure we are going to have any live rookie picks) and maybe we use the other spot on a DFA. DFA period opens up again tomorrow so we might find out soon enough if we have any interest in anyone else.

Collingwood
List needs

1. Key position players

2. Ground level and tackling crumbing and tackling forward

3. Shutdown general defender

Draft picks: 41, 44, 57, 59, 60, 93

Who should they draft? Collingwood are committed to selecting Isaac Quaynor and Will Kelly as Next-Generation Academy (NGA) and father-son selections respectively. Quaynor's physical maturity will see him vie for a position as a shutdown defender in his rookie season, while Kelly offers potential as a key defender. If available later in the draft, Noah Gown could develop as either a key forward or key defender. Another NGA product Atu Bosenavualagi either a late or as a rookie pick would be ideal as a crumbing forward who tackles intently.

Doubt a Inter-State Team take a Risk on him
He’s planning on moving to Melbourne at the end of the year with his girlfriend, so go-home should be a non-issue.

Probably more likely to get a run in the Australian cricket team given his surname
He’s get a game.
He just needs to declare that spiritually he is Geoff Marsh’s son.

I do wonder if McLarty being delisted has anything to do with Marsh nominating again ?
Coincidence?

He's also moving to Melbourne where his partner will be here studying so that cuts out any go home factor.
Apparently was happy with the club in his first stint, just mental issues forced him to move back home.

He'd be an amazing pick up for us in a spot of the ground that we need more cover and depth.

Hopefully the club is all over this.

I'd be open to a Marsh return.

His 2017 season was particularly sensational as a mid averaging over 27 disposals per game and moving back again this year was sensational.

I'll produce my mature age piece over the coming days and there will be more than a couple of familiar names to the Pies and some I'd recommend the Pies bring in.

Getting onto what I came here to say though.

Bigfooty Official Phantom Draft is underway. Link for those interested: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/2018-big-footy-phantom-draft.1208310/

As probably won't surprise anyone, I didn't match the pick 14 bid for Quaynor letting him slip to Geelong.

I'm also sharing the recruiting job for Gold Coast holding a couple of picks. My pick 6 (7 after bidding) was this year's best mid in Bailey Smith. Slightly bummed out foj1 didn't take Rankine at 3, as that would have netting Gold Coast the three best players in this draft but he didn't mess up with Lukosius at 2.

Be Rookie at Best as Not head much about him this Year. Might need a Year in the VFL 1st

He was a major topic of conversation in 2017 due to his unexpected midfield play.

This year he's gone well down back in the WAFL (best competition outside the AFL). 296 disposals, and 103 marks from 17 games are excellent numbers by position. And we all know the line-breaking pace and impact you can get from Marsh offensively.

I fully expect him to be there as a rookie, but he's ready to go. He can step into the team and contribute right away if required. In my view, a good compliment to Moore as the second key back until Dunn is back which would see competition for spots heat up.

Just read somewhere that there is a loophole which could allow mumford to re-join gws without going into the draft. Wonder if this could apply to marsh aswell. Note it was mummy going onto the rookie list.

Anyone know anything about said loophole?

I think it was due to being forced out of the game with an injury.. could be wrong tho

Not that the AFL would “assist” a Sydney team, oh no they wouldn’t

This (seemingly) would have been the rule that covers this:

18. Relist – Exceptional and Compelling Circumstances
18.1 Application for Relisting
(a) A Player and Club may apply to the AFL for a special ruling that the Player who has been or is to be delisted from the Club may be relisted by the Club.
(b) Such application may be made at any time up to 17 October in the year that the Player is to be relisted.
18.2 Grounds for Relisting
(a) Permission will only be granted under clause 18.1 if the Club and Player can satisfy the AFL in its absolute discretion that exceptional and compelling circumstances apply.
(b) It is a pre-condition to the granting of approval that the Player spent no more than one Season removed from the Club’s List and that the Player did not receive a Football Payment by the Club during this time.
(c) It is a further pre-condition that if the Player was on the Primary List, he must be relisted on the Primary List.

But it seems the rule has been "tweaked" in recent times. Very handy for GWS!!

Shane Mumford set to rejoin GWS after changes to rookie rules
November 01, 2018
REVAMPED rookie rules will allow retired ruckman Shane Mumford to rejoin Greater Western Sydney without nominating for this month’s national draft.

New AFL list rules permit GWS to select Mumford, 32, as a Category A rookie early next month without the risk of rival clubs swooping in the draft.

“After speaking with the AFL, our understanding is that Shane has the ability to walk directly to the club of his choice as of the 1st of December without having to nominate for the draft,” Mumford’s agent Anthony McConville said.

In order to select Mumford as a Category A rookie, GWS must have a spot left on its list after the national, pre-season and rookie drafts being held at Marvel Stadium on November 22 and 23.

This rule change has the words "abuse me" written all over it. The extended rookie drafting rule was fine for long term injuries which rule a player out for the season, but this is just plain stupid.

It won't take long before clubs start colluding with state league players to not nominate for the national or rookie drafts so that they can get to the club of their choice and then someone at AFL house might twig that there's something wrong with this determination.

I'd like to see exactly how they now have this rule worded. Certainly in the GWS/Mumford case it's a huge bonus for them that he doesn't even need to take up a Primary List spot.

Extraordinary how GWS would know about this rule isn't it.
