With that result it means Australia are in the Wooden Spoon position.

I reckon Australia are a chance of winning the spoon too. Mark my word Sri Lanka will give Australia a run for their money tomorrow.
Cmon. We are bad but no way are Netherlands finishing above us

I don't expect much from the wallabies because Australian rugby is pox but this Australian cricket team should be doing much better.

I reckon the Dutch could beat Australia on their day. Really great in qualifying.
I just don't see it happening. Great for cricket if it does, but it's not likely. Who have they beaten of note recently? They had a good win against West Indies who didn't even qualify for the world cup but before that their last competitive game against anyone of note was maybe a close loss to Sri Lanka in the qualifiers or their win against South Africa in the T20 world cup last year. In the longer 50 over format I just don't see them with a chance of beating anyone this world cup. (maybe England :D)

Happy to be proven wrong though.

Being the betting man that you are you must have big money on Sri Lanka tonight and Australia for the spoon given the odds and how confidently you're talking about it?

While I never expressly wish ill on a sportsman whether I dislike them or am indifferent to them, it warms my heart every time I see Sam Curran getting belted, and the topper was his little run in with the cameraman.

The guy averages almost 40 and goes at 6 an over yet seems to be thought of by what is otherwise a very very good (usually) one day team as some sort of white ball specialist. He’s junk.

He was player of the tournament at a T20 World Cup at 24 years old. It's probably why they're giving him some rope.

I also love seeing him get belted though haha.

Its almost expected now England will lose to a battling minnow in a cricket world cup.

2023 - Afghanistan - ODI World Cup
2022 - Ireland - T20 World Cup
2015 - Bangladesh - ODI World Cup
2011 - Ireland/Bangladesh - ODI World Cup
2009 - Netherlands - T20 World Cup

He’s the sort of player that in certain circumstances would have been a difficult proposition for opponents: he bowls from an unusually low trajectory, swings it a bit, and swings hard with the bat so they often can be reasonably impactful when they arrive but gee he’s been breathtakingly ordinary almost every time I’ve watched him in the last couple of years and while I’m not stupid enough to think I could handle many international cricketers, he’s one I actually almost feel I could smash on a good day

No I didnt bet on Australia for the wooden spoon.

And i feel like there is more pressure tonight on Australia than there is on Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka had to go through the same qualifying process as the Netherlands. Not even Afghanistan had to do that.

Absolutely there is more pressure on Australia, though it’s hard to see where Sri Lanka are going to get 100 overs of good consistent cricket from

Could make a case for both teams, Kusal Mendis is the most in form bat for either side at the moment. If he bats close to 25 overs batting the way he does and shows a glimpse of that format, it will have a huge role in the outcome of the game.

Afghanistan are a decent cricket side, but what a massive choke by England, open things up a little bit for us perhaps, expect some more upsets this tournament!

This wasn't just any old defeat, England were outplayed in all facets of the game. Well done Afghanistan on a fully deserved victory but a few of the England players looked as if they'd rather be elsewhere. They're being paid to take part in a World Cup so the least they could do is to be professional about it.
