Is it? What if there was a different motivation?

If a person who is indigenous tells you to stop something, but you don't stop, are you racist?
When thousands of spectators are booing an Indigenous player every week, and it's clear that he perceives it as racially motivated and would like it to stop, and you keep doing it anyway, then yeah, that makes you a racist.

You also seem like a bit of a half-wit, if it helps.

yer because people need to be warned that they might get booed if they do slide tackle, play for frees, grab blokes on the balls....
That wasn't the proposition...
The proposition was...if I boo him for some other reason...

Which raises the question, how will they know?
Will there be a sign?

This like Terrell Owens being inducted into the Hall of Fame in the NFL. He declined to accept the award in person but was inducted anyway, just without the fanfare at the event itself. The Hall of Fame doesn't work on an invitation/acceptance type induction, you are declared in so the AFL should have just done the same thing. The AFL gains nothing by deferring his entry, his career deserves first ballot status, they should have declared it and move on.

But do you think that would be seen as insensitive and arrogant?
Fair comment. Trying to avoid the whole "Adam is good/bad" thing here but it appears that Adam's views on the AFL as an organisation are clear. From a positive perspective, the AFL declaring him on may be send a message that "whilst we know what you think of us, we would like you to know that we respect your contribution to the game". If the AFL framed it in that fashion it may negate the perception in your post - hopefully.

Just remember, it was the AFL which gave Adam Goodes the financial freedom and celebrity platform he could choose to exploit for the rest of his life. While racism is finally getting stamped out of the game (and other sports around the globe), these athletes get paid handsomely to entertain and do something only a minuscule portion of the population can do.

If Adam could go back in time and choose not to make the grade, work 5 or 6 days a week, scrounging enough to get that 1st bank loan by the age of 30 (40 in today's world), and be a complete nobody like the rest of us on here, would he do it?
I don't think so.
I respect his courage to make a stand but on the flip side, the organization he disrespects has also done a great deal as well.

The debate around whether or not the booing was racists misses the point of the workplace laws we all work under when at work, and that it isn't the intent of the person making the comment that matters but how the person hearing or seeing it feels about it that matters, and because of that, while I don't believe the booing was entirely racist but Adam Goodes felt it was and the law says that is how he felt about it, and we being in his workplace should have accepted it.

Racist actions are actions that denigrate or hurt another on the basis of their race.
I could be living my life as a farmer, kind-heartedly handing out free slices of my watermelons for many years to all pass by. If one day an American-African person came along and found it offensive of me to presume they'd like a slice of watermelon, that does not suddenly make it a racist act.

This definition is not even open to dialogue between parties to establish whether the offense taken was justified or misplaced. Ridiculous.

Kidding, right?
Sure. I think the ultimate truth is hidden from us all, but making room for ambiguous variables allows a more whole perspective than ignoring them.
But in an analysis of mob behaviour, everyone is ignoring perspectives and championing the ones that suit their argument, because, by definition, no-one can state for sure the motivations of every participant.

If you've been a rare exception to this overwhelming pattern, and have shown a willingness at every juncture to consider all points of view, I do apologise, but in order to find that out, I'd have to read even more of the brain-meltingly dopey stuff that many people are posting in this thread, and I just can't do that anymore.

I'm going to take a leaf out of the great Goodes' book, as per the Malcolm Knox article I quoted in post # 1218, and instigate a dignified silence on this whole tawdry affair. It's the only sane response.

Garcia rejected turning up when the Dead were inducted into the Hall of Fame, he thought that ranking people and music removed part of it's artistry, aternatively he may just have want to stay smacked up at home. Point is Goodes is in some of the best company

The law is wrong. It should always be about intent. wokesters have too much power in our politics. It’s up to the so called victim to understand the intent before figuring out whether they are a victim.

people who are nuts can always think they are a victim regardless of what happens.

The Liberal Party have been in power for the best part of thirty years, "woke" as you idiots love to call being thoughtful and empathetic is the least of this country's problems.

Woke is just the current right wing, virtue signalling buzz word anyway. A year or so ago anyone defending Goodes would have been described as a dreaded Social Justice Warrior who after briefly being a leading threat to global stability have all but disappeared off the planet like they never existed. Someone should open a book on the next word or phrase these idiots will misappropriate.

No woke is used to define progressive people who follow identitarian ideology as developed by certain academics. A racist and sexist group of people who believe race and sex is important for your identity rather then behaviours, beliefs and values. Their goal isn’t to end racism but to simply shift power from one race to the next. They are a very distinct group of people from other lefties such as classical lefties and socialists.
