FTA for WC v GC in QLD (which is 12.40pm AEDT) and Ade v NM in Vic, too.

A long overdue trip for Carlton, might turn out to be perfect timing with Brisbane's injuries. The Lions have some good young players that they can bring in, but I wouldn't say any of them are close to being like-for-like for either Lutkins or Davidson.

North Melbourne are 6-0 in Tasmania, but otherwise have a 1-2 record outside Victoria. Norwood Oval's ground dimensions are pretty similar to both North Hobart Oval (where they beat the Crows by heaps, no Randall) and Chirnside Park (where the Crows beat them by heaps, no Riddell).

Feels like a make or break game for GWS, and I'd like to see them at least reach a prelim this year. 4 very winnable games to come (v WB, STK, RIC and GEEL), but they're still going to have to get up as underdogs* in Footscray v Fremantle and at Manuka v Carlton.

*don't think they should be massive underdogs in those games

[TD valign="top"] AFLW Tribunal – Tuesday January 11

The AFL wishes to advise the Tribunal will not sit tonight after all players accepted their sanctions from the Match Review of Round One of the 2022 NAB AFL Women’s Competition.

Sanctions accepted:
Harriet Cordner, Richmond,
has accepted a reprimand for Engaging in Rough Conduct against Kate McCarthy, St Kilda, during the second quarter of the Round One match between St Kilda and Richmond, played at Skybus Stadium on Friday, January 7, 2022.

Jessica Matin, St Kilda, has accepted a reprimand for Forceful Front-On Contact against Jess Hosking, Richmond, during the during the second quarter of the Round One match between St Kilda and Richmond, played at Skybus Stadium on Friday, January 7, 2022.

St Kilda coach Nick Dal Santo will not be able to attend Saturday's game against Collingwood due to "health and safety protocols".

The inevitable peculiarity of the rescheduling guidelines is that the Bulldogs, for example, might have 16 primary listers available but not Ellie Blackburn, and the game goes ahead. Whereas if they only have 15 available, but that includes Blackburn, the game gets postponed. Perhaps there needs to be a provision for the team to play with more than 5 train-ons, should they choose to.

If the Cats v Dogs game isn't played on Monday night or earlier, currently* the next slot it could be played is Wednesday, 9 February (between rounds 5 and 6). Reason being teams must get a minimum four-day break between games.

*Changes to other matches could be made to allow Geel-WB to be rescheduled sooner though.

Sharni Webb is most likely the incursion for Lutkins and Zimmey Farquharson for Davidson Zimmey kicked 3 against the Suns in a Practice match only a couple weeks ago

I guess the AFL will first attempt to get the Lions v Dogs game up for Tuesday late arvo. Failing that, Wednesday and then push the Suns v Lions back from Saturday to Sunday to allow for the minimum four day break. Failing that, I'm sure they'll figure something out.

Overall a good outcome for Brisbane and Carlton, possibly a good outcome for the Bulldogs. Seemingly it's Geelong who lose out, but their supporters still get a home game to attend so it ain't all bad. Plus, with Egan sidelined for the Blues, it's not the worst match-up for them.

NAB AFLW Round Two – Updated Fixture

The AFL advises it has updated the fixture for Round Two of the 2022 NAB AFL Women’s Competition after multiple players from the Brisbane Lions and Western Bulldogs AFLW programs entered AFL Health and Safety Protocols this week.

The Carlton vs. Brisbane Lions and the Geelong Cats vs. Western Bulldogs matches scheduled to be played on Saturday, January 15 will not proceed as planned.

The Geelong Cats will now host Carlton at GMHBA Stadium at 7:10pm AEDT on Saturday, January 15 and the AFL continues to work closely with both the Lions and the Bulldogs to fixture a match between those two clubs as soon as it is safe and practical to do so.

AFL General Manager Competition Management Laura Kane thanked each Club and everyone involved in the two matches for their understanding and adaptability as the league navigated the situation.

“While COVID-19 continues to impact the competition, the health and welfare of those in our game and the wider community remains the priority,” Ms. Kane said.

“In line with the AFLW’s Covid Match Rescheduling Guidelines – which states a team is required to have a minimum 16 primary-listed players and five train-on players available to play – the league received requests from the Brisbane Lions and the Western Bulldogs Football Clubs which detailed multiple players from each respective Club’s AFLW program had entered AFL Health and Safety Protocols this week. As a result, we have updated the Round Two fixture to ensure teams who were able to play this weekend could play.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and will work closely with both clubs on a revised fixture and, together with the AFLPA, support all players impacted.

“We remain committed to delivering a full season in a safe manner anchored in the advice of respective governments and public health officials.”

The NAB AFLW Competition will continue to remain adaptable as it navigates the 2022 season and the AFL thanks its Clubs, players and the AFLPA, umpires, venues, governments, ticketing agents and supporters for their understanding.

Carlton AFLW Round 2 Update

The Game Changers’ Round 2 fixture against Brisbane on Saturday will not proceed as planned due to multiple Lions players entering AFL Health and Safety Protocols.

Carlton will instead remain in Victoria and will now be taking on Geelong at GMHBA Stadium at 7:10pm AEDT on Saturday night.

Carlton General Manager of Women’s Football Brett Munro says the Club will continue to be flexible with fixture arrangements moving forward.

“While it is unfortunate we’ll no longer be travelling to Maroochydore this weekend we look forward to the chance to take on the Cats,” he said.

“Our preparation remains unchanged in that we will continue to focus on quality opposition, while also providing a great opportunity for our Victorian fans to come and see the team in action and we hope to be able to visit our Queensland fans sometime later in the season.

“We thank the AFL for their efforts in navigating through this current climate and we will continue to work with them on changes to schedule as required.”

Not sure how it’s a grea outcome for the Lions we we’re expecting to unveil our premiership flag and we obviously lose a home game

It's a good outcome for the Lions because they don't have to play with half a team (if they did, a lot of people on Twitter would be squealing like stuck pigs). They don't lose a home game, it's just going to be rescheduled and played against a different opponent--that has obviously been stated already.

And the premiership flag will be unfurled another time. I'm sure there are hotlines that the complainers on Twitter can call to help them cope.

Tuesday/Wednesday sounds workable provided they can get approval to cross state borders with a number of recently recovered COVID cases.

I reckon there is also a chance if it being played midweek between other rounds, or on a dedicated catch-up round as a bye week if there ends up being other postponements later in the season.

I do not envy the fixturing team on this.

They don't want teams getting to the end of R10 with 3 games to play though, hence the AFL statement says BL v WB will be played "as soon as it is safe and practical to do so".

The Lions and Dogs aren't currently scheduled to have their 8 day breaks coincide (which is what's required to fit in mid-week games), but that can be fixed with one of several of their other games pushed back or forward a day.

Amazing start by us. The pressure against the Melbourne players in the first quarter might be the best that I’ve ever seen from us.

Let’s go girls!!
