can we win without mcVeigh

Yeh I think he is a very important player to our structure. It will be tough to get past Geelong without him. BUT our saving grace may be all the injuries geelong have right now. We just need our taggers to dogged in their attack and some good delivery into the forward 50 and we should be right. Jolly really needs to assert himself and Pykey needs to stand up as well. Cant wait should be a good game.

i tend to agree with bedford.... his last few weeks haven't been his most influential

but that doesn't discount his importance to the side

anyway the next few matches we should start underdogs, with mcveigh or not

so i'm just glad, the major injuries we're hitting, are atleast at the backend of the season

Very big out but he probably wouldn't close the gap between us and the Cats/Pies. At least another spot will open up for one of the kids to get another 3 senior games.

His first half against the Saints was very very good, til he got hurt of course. But his work around the stoppages and clearances were really vital in us getting the ball forward. Til he hurt himself yesterday he was going along very nicely too, so poised and such good skill. Who thought when he was labouring getting 7 touches a game while tagging he would turn into such a good player in such a short space of time? You deserve a medal if you did.

Big loss.

I think so, the Cats, by all reports, will be resting a few stars. Believe it or not, if we beat the Cats we can be in the 8 after Round 20. If percentage is constant, Crows need to beat Hawks at MCG (Hawks can beat Crows, but % is a factor), Blues HAVE to beat Port Adelaide over at AAMI (First time I want Blues to win) and the Saints to beat Essendon at the Dome (Looks possible).

The worry is Port-Carl on Sunday since the Power usually play well at home and Carlton aren't that flash.

Carlton's best game for about 3 years on Friday night.

Port were horrendous against Freo. Cant believe they are club supposedly fighting to stay in the 8. But yeh they will probably be much improved against the Blues, who are also pretenders in my book even though they played v well against the Cats. But hopefully they pull out a win to help us out. Us beating the Cats is the least likely of the 4 needed results imo, but i think we do have a shot.

He's only missed 2 games through injury since becoming a fixture in the side in 2006. Rd 13 vs Adelaide and Rd 15 vs Essendon this year, and they have both been losses.

So the answer is NO.

Against the Cats, no.
Is he integral to our structure? yes.
Who can replace him?
As far as outside mids go Goodes is the only one for mine. Though i like him in the fwd line, give us a good target.
Bird could to some degree, but hes injured.
McVeigh gets alot of the ball around stoppages, team mates look for him to use it well.
I would like to see Smith given a go as an outside mid, dont know about his endurance but i like the way he kicks it long with precision.

He's very important to our midfield, so he is a BIG out. but what hasn't really been discussed are the Geelong outs, which are just as crucial. No final word on that yet of course, but they're down quite a few, which means our best chance of beating them for some time.

The heart says yes.

The head is worried. Not just McVeigh but the collection of Rovers is shrinking. Bird the week before and Buchanan when he was getting back into form re did his knee.

It's not just McVeigh but his back ups that are missing. I imagine that Matty O'Dwyer will be playing in his role come Sat night and I've no doubt he will throw himself into the challenge but weather he's ready to challenge the Geelong midfield I don't know but I'm sure he's going to give it a crack and that's going to teach him so much.

Smith's an inside mid if ever there was one. Besides, we need him to do the job in defence on Geelong's multitude of small forwards.

I'd like to see Hanners given a run as a genuine midfielder. Might be throwing him to the wolves a little bit, but he's not a small boy for his age, and he's shown the composure and physicality to do the job.

If I was to draw a comparison from our current group of senior players, I would say that he reminds me of Kirk in a lot of ways (better kicking).

Honestly, playing where he is at the moment, in the backline, he reminds me of a combination of Kirk and 07-Malceski. Obviously nowhere near as good as either yet, but the smoothness and composure coming out of defence that Eski has/had, but the toughness, tenacity and inside game of Kirk.

Absolutely. Took a massive hit on the wing with the ball on the weekend, and just kept going.

I am really excited by Smith, I think eventually he'll be in the engine room though.
