I don't mind resting a ruckman at full forward. At least now when Mackay bombs it aimlessly there will be someone there to contest.

No, that's really not the case.

Just because we pick a slow player doesnt mean they'll stay close to home.

We'll require the slow player to press up the ground like everyone else. They'll just be slower at getting back. We do not leave a forward at home- we won't camp them in the goal square.

Two steps forward
Otten, Rat out

One step back: Jacobs stays.

No idea how Jacob offers more than Otten. I suppose we will play ROB forward, he won't do much there and so will be dropped for next week.
Shows Jacobs will be gone after this year. Getting him to 200 now.

The club's excuse for playing two rucks (to combat Grundy) is clearly to get Sauce to 200 games, which I don't have a problem with. I'm actually curious to see how ROB goes with a second ruck.
It's a very AFC thing to do... gift games to a player we don't need (sauce) so our cucumber sandwich eating supporters can clap politely for his 200th all the while Grundy smashes both our ruckman and the pies mids are running amok on our home deck.

He's gone, we've already got a deal in the works to trade him and he's sitting out so he doesn't accidentally make his ankle any worse. New team wants him firing to start their next pre-season.

Club will see it as win as Keath was a rookie and should get something decent for him.. A business transaction as most things are at the AFC..

My point about O'Brien was that his kicking has improved a lot. He's worked on it and I'm surprised people can't see that but feel obliged to hark back to his early days when he was a horrendous kick.
I'd be happy to see him lining up a set shot or two against the Woods.
Agreed

I think ROB’s kicking has improved from game-ruiningly bad up to slightly below average, that’s great.

Not an offensive weapon any time soon however.

Strange if that's the case given he's named in the SANFL then don't you think?
Strange given Hartigan's last 2 weeks have been deplorable...

We have once again selected an unbalanced line up.

If the Pies had plenty of talls, including their American giant playing, then I could sort of understand playing 2 ruckmen as ROB could play as a defender/ruckman.

... but the Pies are playing a smaller forward line... so we will need to push our extra tall forward rather than back.

2 problems with this. Neither of our ruckmen are decent forwards (would be better off with EH or JJ). Also, can you imagine our forward pressure with Sauce/ROB, Tex, Lynch & Fog? Is old man Dougy going to pick up the slack? The ball is just going to waltz out by the Pies! We are playing 1 tall too many.

Wasnt that the big issue back in 2018, we picked the wrong team ie too tall and immobile v Pies in wet conditions and they bashed us?

I'd argue we are playing 2 too tall. Hartigan out, Talia to play on Miochec and then smalls on the rest.

Don't give me this Harto can play tall and small. He can't play either ATM

Also a problem in the 2017 grand final.

It's like our selectors never learn.

Oh well, probably in our best interests to get a flogging to kill off the 2 ruckman concept against smaller sides & keep us out of the finals to put some decent pressure on the club.

AFC

We exist to make the 8.

I would have played Keath or Butts if underdone.

A Jacobs and O'Brien combination should have been tried earlier. IMHO it's worth experimenting with O'Brien playing a portion of the game in a sort of "Tall Lynch" role, which would necessitate a better backup ruckman than the standard Adelaide tactic, which is where Jacobs comes in.
