Fairly straightforward i would have thought this week...

Stiffy in for Callinan.

Bernie 'Aspen' Vince needs to put in decent effort against the filth and is on notice... Kerridge/Lyons to come in if he stinks it up again.

Not sure if you want to hear this or not... but this is how we've changed this year

No, you have played the 16th and 18th ranked side from last year.

Trial games don't count, especially against Sydney who don't care and since you have only payed GWS and the hapless demons, suggesting you have changed is at ad early.

Will pride stop the club from dropping Callinan and bringing back Stiffy?

And is there anyone seriously suggesting Callinan gets another game instead of finding form and fitness in the SANFL?

Jacobs? Really?

Struggling for form IMO.

Agreed, we can't get fooled by his nice goal up forward, he was poor and has been only okay through e preseason. Leuenberger clearly beat him at the hitouts and smashed him around the ground, exposing his lack of athleticism. Jacobs seems to resemble Matthew Clarke more and more each game, a timid tap ruckman whose impact on a game is limited to the ruck contests. He'll never be able to cover the ground like Leuenberger, but he's a big boy, he needs to use his body physically to exert his influence on games, especially in marking contests. Actually crash a few packs, make himself a genuine target when we're coming out of defence. His kicking is extremely good for a ruckman, unlike Clarke, he just needs to watch how guys like Maric use their size to impact on games.

And they might have lost those games last year.

They've improved, how much depends on next week.

Their attitude has changed, not skill level. That is where the improvement is coming from. Lets see this attitude continue when the pressure from a good side is applied.

They maybe able to con the moronic Victorian media who have this love affair with David Koch but until they beat a good side, I'm not buying it. Mutton dressed up as lamb at the moment, the power are.

And we're not as bad as our form has indicated. Essendon are the real deal and only blew the game out in the last 5 mins.

Unfortunately I don't think we will, whether it's pride or what we'll point to Petrenko as an example and say "he'll be better for the run, no point dropping him now..."

I think it's quite poor that we've spent all summer trumpeting our depth through the midfield etc, but when push came to shove, despite the fact we had plenty of guys who'd performed well over preseason and were performing well at SANFL, we rushed the same old favourites back into the side (favourites who let us down badly during finals). A strong side would force a guy like Callinan to force his way back into the side, Hodge and Thomas were forced to do so, similar with Leuenberger, he then played a blinder first game back, why did we think guys like Callinan and Petrenko were above this?

With close to a full list to choose from and guys performing at SANFL level, there should be no need to rush blokes back, especially in round 2!

I like your Smack thinking against their 2 rucks, but not sure why you are calling for Otten to be dropped after 2 solid games? He will be needed to pick up either Westoff or Stewart.

I think you're right Otten onto Westhoff, but Westhoff is 7cm taller and 4Kg heavier than Otten. He's also too quick for Otten, and is playing allover the place, like he's got no set position. He's in form and is always a nuisance against us because we have no like for like to match his stupid build...and beard.

Westhoff might be much maligned from all corners of the world, and rightly so because he can be such a laughable spud:D ...but he's a barometer for the way Port are travelling, especially against the Crows.

You never know when Westhoff will spud it up or perform miracles out of his arse, so he is worth worrying about. I'd have Otten as his direct opponent with Henderson always nearby to run with him and jump over him.

Kill him off when he plays us and Port are half beaten.

Callinan and Jaensch out

Ins - take your pick.

See, this annoys me.

Is our depth that poor that we have to play borderline best 22 players or have the coaches lost faith in everyone ese who can play half back flank?

If his knee requires pain killers, rest him and play someone who is 100% healthy and fit. It's only round 2 FFS and its nit like h us a super star who is irreplaceable.

mJ out injured >>>> van Berlo to the half back flank >>> Lyons, lynch or Kerridge to the midfield.

Stop playing injured players.

C'mon, why you gotta do that? Why you gotta be chopping class players after two rounds?

Vince and Callinan were ordinary. We won ugly. It's April

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Yesterday was just the type of win we haven't seen much of in recent years. A greased out, ugly win with quite a few top players below their best.

That's called footy in April.

Some of you guys want finals like performances every week of the minor round.

good post. you will have to watch westhoff, 5 goals last night and bog. 1.5 last week, would have been bog if he kicked straight. he is running all over the place like a stray dog, looking vastly improved as are port as a whole.

Cmon Slippery, he is obviously underdone. He had no fitness or form to warrant selection. He was a liability yesterday. I'm not banishing for life, all I'm suggesting that he needs to have form and fitness before he's picked and he needs to find that in the SANFL.

And the question I'm asking will the club make the switch or try and hide the fact they didn't get it wrong in the first place, because they did get it wrong.

Most of the time when a genuine small forward doesn't get near it it's because the opportunities haven't been there. We saw that a few times with him last year. He's in the side for those rare half chances that other players can't nail - and when he DOES get them the pressure is really on him and to his credit he rarely messes them up. Unlike
Johncock he's not in the side to get 25 disposals. That's not his job.

I'm all for bringing Johncock back by the way. But the club thinks he's competing with Callinan and that's where the issue is.

Jaensch got injured during the game didn't he?

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Just out of interest, I went back and had a look at Ian Callinan games against top 8 sides from 2012 and 2011 (last night wasn't included as Brisbane are not a top 8 side) and found this...

From the 15 games he has played against top 8 sides and dating back to round 14 2011 (26th of June) vs Geelong, he has averaged 13.8 possessions a game and 1.06 goals a game.

If you wish to wheel out that Form is temporary and class is permanent garbage. Please at least align it to a player worthy of that cliche. Like Scott Thompson, Darren Jarman or Andrew McLeod but Ian Callinan in the AFL is nothing but a plodder who is hanging onto his AFL career by a thread.

We certainly got that from Ian Callinan last night. A finals like performance I mean.

I don't get this board sometimes.

We continuously clamour for under performing 'senior' players to be moved aside. We move one who hasnt performed in over a year out of the team, and the overwhelming support is for him to be reinstated?

If we're going to replace Callinan, I'd much prefer that spot to be used to invest game time into Lyons, or McIntyre or someone of the ilk. Johncock at this stage is not an A Grade player. I'm not even sure if he's a B Grade player. Needs more than one good performance in the SANFL to push for selection.

Jaensch got injured during the game didn't he?

At what stage? I can not remember seeing anything of the sort. Not disputing it but don't remember.

Maybe, but unless if was after the sub - why didn't they activate the sub straight away.

Quite correct and did he even correct the reason why he was dropped. Kicking 7 goals is a good start, but was that the reason why he was dropped.

Was it effort levels, was it pressure acts, was it staying involved in the game.

Out of interest, how many of our 17 wins last year came against "top 8" sides?
