Some people are talking up Petrenko's game like its the second coming. This should be a STANDARD game for him, but when you come off such a low base it gives that impression.

Luke Brown had a good game, but I'm sorry if Smith is fit then he should come back in for him. I do not however think Smith should come straight in for Showdown, a run in the SANFL after missing a bit of footy.

Callinan back to the Dogs, poor selection by Sanderson, Callinan will play some footy this year no doubt, but he was wrong to get a start. Johncock in for him, but he doesn't go forward. Johncock goes back, McKay is released in to Vince's role which seems to be some sort of quasi wing and Vince up forward. I like a Bernie/Tex forward line, with Jerka lurking. That sounds like a bit of fun.

Also if somehow VB is suspended then Mitch Grigg in before Kerridge for me

In summary

Smith (if fit) > Brown
Johncock > Callinan
Johncock > HB
McKay > Midfield/Wing
Vince > Forward
Grigg > VB (if suspended)

there's a lot i disagree with in this post, but none more so than
Johncock in for him, but he doesn't go forward. Johncock goes back

forward gets dropped
kicks 7 in ressies
brought back in as a defender.

i just dint see the logic.

FWIW i'd have him back too, but replacing Callinan.

It doesn't make sense only because he's being made to play forward. What I have posted won't happen because Sando wants him as a forward and his defender days are over.

My post is my own personal wishlist of which just about none will come to fruition.

I don't understand your point, so don't shoot me but Brown was good. So why is he out?
I was questioning why Smoovy was suggesting Brown should drop out for the same reasons you don't understand. Hence the "????"

They aren't straight swaps. Grigg only if VB is suspended.

Have you seen this Grigg kid go? I'm trying to think of a better left foot kick the club has had. Serious.
There are far more players lining up if VB needs to be replaced...

eg. Mckay could move into the midfield to replace VB if Smith came back in & Brown keeps his place ... but I doubt VB will be suspended nor Smith will be rushed back in nor Brown will be dropped.

I fear bernie's knee means we'll never see him truly flying again.

Port will be absolutely rampant early next week. What are people's early thoughts/feelings?

I know we're supposed to be conservative in our predictions before a Showdown, but Port haven't faced any kind of pressure yet. Also, teams are usually flat the week after an emotional win. Will beat them by 50pts comfortably.

A lot are talking Kerridge coming in, in my view Grigg should be the next in line before him.

The reality is I just have an obsession for left footers. It's a major problem, we don't have a single one in the side...except for Dangerfield.

I love if when Vader tells us how the SANFL players are going.

Kerridge had sustained good form last year - and he's started very strongly this year; he's hardly being 'rushed in.'

We brought Crouch in and he instantly improved our team - our bottom 6 players aren't strong enough to suggest that Kerridge wouldn't do the same.
And if Doughty went another year we wouldnt have played Brown today. Its amazing what talented young kids can do when give a run

It's hard to argue, given how poor he was in the 3 quarters he played.

I'm just explaining the logic behind his selection - as I see it coming from the selectors. I don't necessarily agree with it. In this case, I think a run in the SANFL would have been beneficial.
But wasnt it an obvious selection?

Copied from the game thread...

Just got back from the powder game (gf is a power fan) and they will take it right up to us. Their run to space in their fwd line was great and something we havent defended well. Their small fwds were everywhere. If we trot out our form of todays first 3 qtrs we'll get smashed.

GWS were good in the first qtr and i think won the clearances but port just worked hard all game. Completely different from the powder efforts of the last couple of years.

Callinan was given a chance. But I think a stint in the SANFL would do him some good.

We can't have any underdone players vs Port. They are going to be up and about.

I do think Johncock should get a game. Maybe Otten out. I'm not really in favour of players, particularly younger or inexperienced ones yo-yoing in and out quickly. So it makes Jaensch a hard decision. I hope the selection panel can make them though. Vince might need a wake up call too.

I would like to see Smith in if fit, but fear he might be under done.

Do we risk bringing in Smack? Will he be too timid? But we do need a 2nd ruck.
We seem to be good at developing players pretty well, but rucks remain an area of concern. I know we developed Maric, but our back up rucks seem to be an area to work on.

In time, I feel JJ will grow into a part time ruck role, but we do need an option now. We will need to nullify Ports rucks... Whether its through winning the hit outs to advantage or sharking their taps, but either of those is not going to be an easy task this time.

Is he a random enough spud though?

Surely there is some muppet with a shit haircut that we've never even heard of until next weekend.

Theyve cut most of the spuds. Their new players can actually play a bit having seen them play tonight. Mild respect creeping in.

Carl's on the money. O'Shea IMO is a very very ordinary player and by far the worst player in their 22.

If he improves drastically he might make it up to spud level.

I like your Smack thinking against their 2 rucks, but not sure why you are calling for Otten to be dropped after 2 solid games? He will be needed to pick up either Westoff or Stewart.

I'm just not sold on Otten at the moment. Can't put my finger on it.
But as I said, the priority has to be no underdone players. If Otten makes the cut I'm not going to worry too much.

More concerned with Callinan.

Vince will likely get a word in his ear as I can't see them dropping him, even though it would send him the message to smarten up.....

I concur on not playing underdone players - need 22 players fit & firing against Port... which should mean replacing Callinan & perhaps Vince.

Porps may have been on the outer to be named as sub today.

Strange how things work out though. His 11 disposals in the last quarter played a crucial role in our win.

Played him back into form IMO.

Callinan was very disappointing today. Apart from 1 nice goal assist, he did very little in conditions which were tailor made for the small forward.

IMO he shouldn't have been chosen in the first place, and should be dropped back to the SANFL and not chosen again until his form demands that he is.

That's the only change that I would make, given no injuries, and would bring Porps back into the side, with Johncock as the sub, which gives us cover both forward and back.

IMO Callinan showed us why he shouldn't have been chosen, and Johncock showed in the SANFL why he shouldn't have been dropped.

Really people are calling for Brown and Mackay to be dropped? Serious?
Honestly watch the games Jaensch as well has been good all year but always the first rolled out

I think Vince and Callinan need a rest to find form. I originally thought Kerridge but Grigg would give a a point of difference and i love his left foot.

In Grigg, Stiffy
Out Vince, Callinan

Loving Brown so composed for a rookie. Crouch and Brown for Davis and #10 will be a huge win.
