100k , it would be like me losing a dollar coin through the cracks of a jetty - They’ve been given 16 Million from the AFL - here’s a great article outlining where the money is going in 2023

I thought the minimum distribution was the salary cap? That's more than $11 mill?

It was a soft sanction - but the sheer level of embarrassment and scrutiny on the plastic teal franchise this week alone has been immeasurable. :$

Even the Vic media has turned on them after usually ignoring them due to irrelevancy.

Yeah Port are done for the year.

Will still finish top 4 on the back of their winning streak. But that is it.

Kenny 2 year deal coming, Josh Carr to Richmond.

Would be nice if we can sneak into the 8 and beat them again.

Im actually worried Port is in the middle of an 8 game losing streak, losing the EF and Ken will get the sack :(

Which is my point.

If there is no admission that the doctor was influenced by the needs of the team to win the game, then an independent doctor is equally as likely to make such a mistake as the club doctor.

Wrong

Just determinedly ignorant on what the protocol says

It is a you must do this situation, not a what do you think moment

That’s not a mistake unless you were unfamiliar with what the rules said

And someone can be influenced by themselves and the situation; not necessarily others. People get caught up all the time. But it was not an error of judgement because no judgement was allowed for

It's glorious that Port have left this to August as it will now be a distraction that could derail their season.

Perhaps it's been on Kenny's mind the past few weeks... as his cheerleading on the boundary hasn't quite been up to his usual standard.

He didn't even notice 2 of his players were knocked out cold.

Depends what you mean by influence. I reckon there’s little to no chance any Port football person said ‘get ‘em back out there’ or words to that effect but the strongest form of power is where it’s unspoken and the person (or people/population) know exactly what type of behaviour is expected by those in charge and what the consequences for non compliance are.
I think it has either been explicitly stated or implied to the medical team that if they think they might get away with sending a player back out they should try.

I dunno about that, but it’s impossible to understand how he could think he didn’t need to be at least tested

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck…

What’s more plausible, that a professional sporting club might try and bend the rules to win an important game, or that a doctor of 20+ years accidentally forgets to apply the most basic of protocols?

I thought port might have tried the old..'the doctor just happened to be in the rooms taking a wizz when it all happened so it was just bad luck / timing or whatever'

Wrong. All port have been sanctioned with is making a mistake. All your other words are just hot air.

He did not consider what the protocol mandates
From Hinkley's flippant comments earlier in and Chris Davies comments today, they clearly don't know what the protocol dictates or want to blurr the lines and confuse people.

With CD today, he said the doctor is the only person that can make decisions around the protocol. This is patently false.

1)The protocols say coaches and officials must be familiar with the match day procedures.

2)The Dr is the one who guides a player through the 11 step process over a minimum of 12 days and assesses how they are moving through.

3)In the case of possible concussion the scat5 is used to rule out a player.... A passed test is not automatic play on, if any symptoms emerge then they enter concussion protocols.

4)A passed scat5 does not rule a player free to play if there is a clear case of concussion.

Rucci on SEN was trying to sat pass scat5 = no concussion.

They either don't know the protocols or blatantly lying.

Publically. I bet they have had a proper dressing down behind the scenes. They have exposed that the AFL has failed in its duty of care by handing a conflict of interest to club docs. Independent Drs are required at every match.

If they AFL push too hard, Port could push back too.

My guess is the Doctor believes concussion is overstated in the AFL and not a believer in the protocols. Like any profession you have people with different views.

He would have had lots of conversations with Hinkley and Davies and that's why they also don't take it seriously

The doctor should of been fined but probably the hit to his reputation is worse, likewise for someone like Hinkley whose whole schtick is being seen as a father figure.
I was gonna say, it wouldn't surprise me if it's just a case of the Doc is an old schooler who thinks unless you're completely unconscious then you're fine to get back up and keep playing if you can.

I don't think Doc needed any encouragement to underplay the situation.
He has bought into the 'creed' like the rest of them. They start the brainwashing when they arrive at the club about how much they hate the Crows and they they will do whatever it takes to beat us. In this instance he was happy to ignore the concussion protocols to try and help his team get the win.

Isn’t he rusted on from the Magpie days pre Power - and has been there all the way through. I think you have nailed it - he is old school Port when you just get up and get back out there. Disagrees with how “precious” the protocols have become - and has never been challenged on doing the same thing multiple times before

If a doctor is biased, do you think the doctor would admit to having bias? Likewise, umpires or whoever else with bias?

I’m not saying the bias was intentional by the way, it may well be subconscious. However, it’s fair to say we see biases all the time in sports.
I just wanted to thank you for using "biased", "bias" and "biases" all correctly! That word seems to trip people up, and I'm becoming a grumpy old bastard about it.

Cornes saying Dr was using his 40 years experience and saying his decision was justified because of passed tests.

Surely, this is a protection racket. Protocol written by concussion specialists surely over-rides 40 years experience from non-experts in concussion. Isn't this exactly why concussion protocols exist? To protect players from 40 years experience of non-experts in the field.....

A passed scat5 does not necessarily indicate concussion hasn't happened. It's just 1 tool.

It’s actually incredible that a long term Port supporter is a doctor and the current Premier is also part of the walking dead - what is the world coming to??
