List Mgmt. Fyfe - Signed until 2023!!

I wish this show pony would get on with it and just sign.

You're the captain, lead from the front and just sign. Don't get why he's dragging this on..especially with the way he's playing atm.

When Pav didn't sign until late in the year each contract was he being a show pony?

Is Fyfe or his management posturing in the media? His message has been consistent, nothing has changed.

Very similar to Lachie Neale's negotiations last year year.

You may not understand why a 3-5 year contract that has the potential to pay him millions as well as shape our list for the next 10 years is taking longer than you like but that doesn't equate to Fyfe being a "show pony".

Very very interesting that restricted free agency is no longer a thing. I assume this is a change that will be grandfathered in otherwise things would get really interesting this year.

Are there any changes to free agency?

The current free agency qualification periods will remain, however, the AFL has agreed to implement one of three proposed changes within by October:

  • Portable free agency
  • Free agency for life
  • Restricted free agency for players with four years of service under the median salary

A clause has also been altered to allow players to qualify for unrestricted free agency with greater ease. Previously, for a player to qualify for unrestricted free agency he needed to have played 10 years at a club and entered into a new contract in the past two years. This served as a deterrent for players to sign long-term contracts.

AFL clubs poised to splurge on stars after new collective bargaining agreement reached

Certainly a landmark agreement and great credit must go to the players association although I'm not sure the completion of chapter and verse has/will be the impediment/trigger to finalising negotiations in player contracts.
I just don't think they're rushing. All parties know roughly what it's going to look like and will work toward finalising the detail around some approximate deadline they've agreed to.
Sure there'll be stuff from the CBA that needs to be confirmed and factored in but it's unlikely to be earthshattering and leave anyone gobsmacked.
The 'when /will he/won't he sign??' is just the media noise from outside the process.
Same management as Lachie and similar process is my guess.

Nah i'm referring to this bit:

"In other key details contained in the agreement:

All Tribunal fines will be part of an annual contribution of $250,000 for concussion research

WA clubs will receive 12 business class airfares per flight when doing east/west travel

Category A rookies will be eligible to play from round one next season

Restricted free agency has been removed, with all free agents 'unrestricted'

'Rested' players or 'held over' travelling emergencies left out of their senior team will receive match payments

Players have agreed to license their personal GPS data to be made available to clubs and broadcasters with specified limitations

AFL CEO Gill McLachlan said the deal rewarded the players, who deserved to "be paid well and have growth in their incomes commensurate to growth in the industry".

Does this mean that a player becomes eligible to be a free agent after 8 years at a club?

Does this mean that a player becomes eligible to be a free agent after 8 years at a club?
The current eligibility rules around tenure remained at 10 years and eight years with a minor tinkering seeing players who have not signed contracts within the previous two years being able to become unrestricted free agents if they qualify as such rather than having to become restricted free agents as per the existing rules.

The previous system was thought to deter players from signing long-term contracts before free agency.

Restricted free agents in 2017 such as Richmond's Dustin Martin and Fremantle's Nat Fyfe remain in that category, meaning their clubs can match any offer made to them from another club at the end of the season.

So Fyfe said mid season. We've just past mid season. If he doesn't sign in the next 1-2 weeks I think the media (and us fans) will jump all over him.

Hopefully we don't get a message change that he wants to wait until the end of the season.

Now the player agreement has gone through, I'd expect Fyfe's management and the teams to start talking seriously. Will take a least a month. After that get worried.

Shuey re-signed yesterday for 4 years. Shouldn't take a month, the details of the new agreement were a pretty poorly kept secret, the 20% figure was being bandied about months ago.

Ultimately it doesn't matter how long it takes as long as it does.
But it does. If Fyfe waits to the end of the season we might have to leave some of our Vic kids un-contracted until then aswell.

Lots of teams have alot of money this year. Say Dusty and Kelly re-sign with their teams. The Saints, North, Carlton's of the league are going to have a lot of cash to splash at uncontracted players.

There is going to be an almighty spending spree at the end of this season. If the big name stars are taken off the table, the kids with 'potential' will start getting the ridiculous offers instead.

We need to be locking up our players as quickly as possible. Otherwise we're going to be drawn into bidding wars.

That's a good point.

We should easily 1.5 million in the salary cap at the end of year, if not more. We should have no issue matching Fyfe's contract offer even if all the Vic kids sign up. We have another 4-5 players we will be delisting.

If Fyfe does sign then it may help encourage the other guys to sign up though, so he should sign now.

if our injury list posting is anything to go by, it will take longer than WC and every other club
He probably re-signed 2 years ago. It's just taken freo this long to release the news

Player managers have been playing 'Hungry Hungry Hippo's' for months to prepare for this moment.

Keep hearing from a few different people that Fyfe very close to signing.

With the pay rise that would put his current pay from 700k to 840k. I dare say that they'd have been looking to bump him another 150-200k so he could very well become our very first million dollar man.

Pretty sure Sandi got 7 figures in 2013 - with the old veterans rule.

Edit: Pav was rumored to earn over a million too - 2012.

Either way. Mr Fyfe - get your signing pen warmed up please?
