Traded Jaeger O'Meara [traded to Hawthorn for pick 10 and GWS's 2017 2nd rd pick]

The last thing Hawthorn will want to do is enter the 2017 trade period without picks to trade with.

Geelong are the example not to follow in this instance, as we can see with the trouble they're having trading for Deledio and Touhey.

We are going to have to part with 2017 1st as a minimum if we are to get O'Meara. We can't expect to hold that and get O'Meara.

You'll lose a top 10 pick if Essendon or Brisbane bid on Bowes before the first pick and then you'll get the 8th best player in the draft as opposed to the 1st (according to draft order anyway). You can have pick 1 to choose whomever you like and get Bowes with pick 23.

You guys are losing O'Meara no matter what. That doesn't give you guys much bargaining power.
Thats not the point. 2x top 10 picks for pick 1, fine, thats a decent deal, especially with a bid for Bowes coming early, but that would have nothing to do with the Jaeger O'Meara deal. By this trade logic O'Meara is only worth pick 23 which is absolute BS, easily worth a first round pick + something else. not to mention if Bowes then gets bid on at pick 2 or 3, we would lose picks 22, 23, and pick 24 would become roughly pick 40. and we have 2 other academy players we want to take that are expected to be mid 2nd rounders.

It's in GC best interest to try to get a deal done. Hawthorn won't try to screw them over. They have proved they are good to deal with and fair. If GC hold out and try to call the bluff they'll end up losing him for nothing. Just remember if u haven't heard JOM had a medical and meeting with the bombers also. Why do u ask? In case a deal cannot be done he will head to the PSD and the bombers

nope
i would think Adelaide wanted more than Pick 9, 28 and Gore for Danger.

These days, you take what you can get.
We would have wanted more for Titch as well then 14 and late upgrades but trading is give and take.

Over the years clubs that trade fairly, even if accepting unders proove to be the best at getting players through the door.

Which is why the Hawks followed the Swans lead- it wasn't just Cola as many would have you believe.

That's rubbish. We simply do not have to trade out our 2017 first at all.

We can quite easily complete the trade by including the Lions and Handley in the deal and sending players and picks that the Suns have rejected.

The real problem is that he can barely walk to the draft. He can hardly walk to the milk bar without getting a sore knee. His knee flared up on his return to the reserves only a few weeks ago. His potential suitors haven't had a chance to see him at AFL level for two years. GC are simply delusional if they think we are sending a Breust level player to them for what is an unproven and risky prospect (with a big upside).
Rubbish

What do you think will get it done? I'd have thought next year's first (which could be lower than first thought given the Sam Mitchell news) and pick 23 or our second rounder this year is fair. GC can use those picks to get Hanley and someone else from another club.

I disagree.

Suns will want more than just Hanley. Lions will want more than a second round pick and fringe player for Hanley.

I certainly hope you a right though. I just hope this O'Meara deal doesn't fall over.

Send JOM to PSD. Hawthorn get no benefit. JOM gets no benefit. Gold Coast get no benefit.

Gold coast players get a benefit. If that is the path club management takes, then they see their club is run by rank amateurs, and they get to give their agents a heads up on starting to look for new homes before it is their turn to be screwed over by a group who care more about bravado than building a winning culture.

If only GC showed this steely tenacity during the footy season :rainbow:
Nice troll, like to see how the Hawks would of gone with Hodge, Mitchell, Sheils, Birchel and Lewis missing for the majority of the year. I would hazard a guess you would of been at the end of the ladder we ended up at.

Surely 12 months ago when the Hawks poured sweet honey into the young mans ear they must of had a plan. Why should the Suns take a hit because your mob have totally stuffed the deal up?

GCS are taking a hit having been unable to convince him to stay.

The only discussion is about the compensation, PSD means no compensation.

The only public information is that GCS want players not picks
There seems to be a shortage of players willing to be traded to GCs making a suitable trade difficult
But Hawthorn have a history of finding ways to get their trades done

It might take the whole trade period but a deal will get done

Surprised you didn't include Roughead also :$

Which bit? Are you denying JOM pulled up with soreness after his recent attempted return to reserves footy and had to cut short that comeback attempt due to ongoing knee issues?
I was at the games where you? He did everything he could not to play this year to ensure he didn't risk his Hawks deal.

A deal that you're now unable to deliver on

That reads similar to our 2014. ;)

Pick 23 (from Fremantle for Hill), pick 36 and next years first or a decent player will get it done.

That was already offered and rejected.

Suns are being difficult to deal with. As a result, it's already cost them pick 14, which they had already planned to use and has now stuffed up their plans for this and has cooled off a couple of other irons they had in the fire. If they keep being difficult, they will definitely lose him, most likely to the Hawks, for nothing in the draft.

Sam Mitchell leaving has just freed up enough cap space, when put together with the money O'Meara was going to be paid, to offer well over $1mil for one year. Last resort is putting this figure in his head for the draft and then wait for the Hawks selection at the draft.
