not an excuse because we had so many opportunities to ice that game on the weekend but **** me, I reckon every bounce went the way of GWS in that last quarter - the rushed kicks into the forward line seemed to find a giants campaigner every time too. Good teams make their own luck I suppose. That game reminded of our three nail biting losses in a row in 2017

Let's say this GWS game was the last round of the year. And a win 'earns' us pick-6, and a loss 'earns' us pick-3. What would we prefer? So whilst I wanted to win, in the cold light of day losing is hardly a massive issue, particularly in trade period and then on draft night when armed with pick-3 instead of pick-6.

I said the same thing to my old man, there was a time where we outnumbered them going into our forward line and somehow bounced towards one of their players to run it back out, so frustrating.

u might be unaware of where our pick is heading

Balta for Trainor
Juddy for Kamdyn

The swans arent overly tall up forward which makes selection interesting,

Probably dont need all of Miller, Gray and Balta. - Does Jonty get a rest and Balta plays fwd to really stretch them? Or do we play all 3 back and rely on midfield pressure to force the swans to bomb it forward and Balta plays a pure intercept role breaking the world record?

Don't they have Hamling, McLean and that gimp Ladhams?

What a myth created by Eagles fans to make themselves feel better.

Whose these vets soon to retire? Lynch? Prestia, McIntosh and Broad? Prestia played a blinder but the other 3 I wouldn't say are tearing the house down. Lynch is good to have around for the young forwards and if he stays fit you'd probably give him an extra season.

Nank is still only 30 has another 2 seasons atleast in him, Vlastuin is 31 has a few. Who else? Short? Not even playing and has been average anyway.

Are they trying to include Taranto & Hopper in that list? Those 2 players are 27/28 have many years left lol

Eagles fans are cooked.
They have a point.
Harley in our midfield around Nank, Hopper, Taranto and Prestia would absolutely destroy the opposition.

They had Hough, Hewitt and Flynn in the middle getting reamed against an average Geelong midfield unit.

The question for me is whether those west coast youngsters are up to it as long term mids.

Hough looks a very good small defender. Hewitt looks a very good goal kicking half forward.

Flynn ain’t the future hence the Darcy Cameron interest.

Interesting that Ginbey played on Cameron last night. He’s a good player Ginbey but last man in defence caught them out and showed where they are deficient. Up forward their best players were Allen and Ryan, with neither likely to be there in a couple of years either.

We do need mids though, and need them this year thru trade or draft.

No they don't, you can't include Taranto and Hopper in the list of "nearly retired". Far from it.

They reckon our spine consists of older players that will be gone in 12 months? Who exactly? Lynch? Prestia? Who else is this spine? Broad isn't our spine.

Nank isn't retiring anytime soon, 2 or 3 more seasons, he does however need help.

So no they don't have a point at all.

I think Bauer is a goner. No use wasting games on him. He certainly has some ability but some of the younger players appear to have more potential. I’m pretty certain he’s up for delisting.
Yep, Faull, Armstrong, Sims have all gone past him. Fawcett would even be a preferred option atm.
I’ve always liked him but he hasn’t taken his chances and drafting a bunch of talented talls makes it hard for him.

I think an attitude improvement, including team first and body language, would be the first step, then try and pinch a wing or half back spot. Good hands, moves well and lovely disposal.

This year is his chance. It only gets harder from here

I’m trying to remember when Lynchs set shot kicking became so poor.
Most probably after the foot injury that kept him out for so long.
It’s really sub par now.
Been unreliable for ages.

Gonna try and get Kingy to do a graphic of his shots from inside 30m since coming to the club.

From 50m he is excellent. From close in he pokes at it. Been bemoaning it for ever.

I did, just I'm evaluating it as a rebuilding team. Sonsie and Kmac2 did worse than hoped, and the fact replacing Dow with Prestia made us look much better is a bad sign. So the game provided evidence all three of our young midfielders suck. The fact that TT, Hopper. Prestia and Nank did well is irrelevant, they've all played over 150 games, you don't get to claim the rebuild is going well by pointing to them.

Brown wasn't much sighted neither was Campbell, Green was wasteful, Faull still looks very unready, Mansell and Ross continue to demonstrate they've plateaued into C-grade players, Gray was beaten by Cadman and Trainor didn't look great on the wing (understandably given he's out of position). Smith was meh.

On the positives Sims was great, Banks continues to look better than Short in that role and HRS played a good game...

So yeah far more negatives than positives. This board has a bizarre attitude at the moment where so long as our veterans make us competitive it supposedly demonstrates our rebuild is going well. Either we're in a rebuild and judge performances based off the kids, or we're not in which case why are we sitting 3rd last on the ladder?

LOL laughable. No idea there are multiple ways to rebuild than just plonking kids into a side North Melbourne style.

For example, you do realize we have the likes of Taranto and Hopper in the side for 4 or 5 more seasons right? Going by your thought process that means we wont be rebuilding our list from within for the next 5 seasons.

In fact going back 15 years, we shouldn't have kept Newman or Kane Johnson in the side because we weren't rebuilding after drafting Cotchin and Dusty.

I'd caution listening to WC gimps , the ones who chortled baker isn't worth a r1 ,,, will win their BF
As if shai is worth 2x r1 , will likely be top 4 bf and single handed return. Freo to finals

Just watched the game finally. Hard to drop anyone after that effort. We should have been 8 goals up at 3/4 time and won it easy.

Some real positives, Sims no.1, great signs. MacAuliffe won everything that came his way and used it really well. Again Smith did a really good job on the dangerous smalls, never left their sides.

Maybe Trainor can have a week off for Balta and could play on the wing, why not if Traior can do it why not Balta.
Clarke could come in for MacIntosh and be the sub. Can play a variety of roles.
