Send Billings to Bont...it's an impractical match up, but still, I'd like to see it play out 😆

In all seriousness I wouldn’t mind Bytel given a run with role with Bontempelli, might have trouble with pace, but would still be with him right up to the last siren.

Marshall out is huge, and we really could have done with Zak's speed for this game. I think we'll be in it...but unfortunately fall short again...I'd still like to see Max play up the field, take marks, and not have to worry about being the man. Reckon he'll still be good for a couple of goals. Membrey and Battle to play in deep forward rolls. We may see Punter come in again to keep Ryder company (McKernan has a shoulder issue and may be rested)

Great lesson on how to go about it too. Bytel and Byrnes should get a bit out of this game, the dogs have a deep and very good midfield.

I heard similar disparaging comments made about Brent Guerra in this forum before we delisted him and the Hawks picked him up. The Hawks turned him into a two time premiership winner when Clarkson maximized his potential. I feel it in my bones that the Saints will follow the same path with Dunstan. Bookmark it.

I would love you to be right. He is a real heart on the sleeve type player.

Just hasn’t looked near it recently and don’t see him being near our midfield again so another position would be one of his few options.

Actually reckon he is more chance to be delisted than make it in another position for us. If that happens I hope he does get another gig somewhere else.

I think he would have found a new home last trade period if there was any interest... it’s a shame, I loved the bloke when he started but either his disposal has gotten worse or I just didn’t notice it when he was playing in Richos army.
Look maybe he’s trying too hard in his few opportunities at AFL and he would improve with a consistent run of games, but he’s looked a fair way off in his only two games in the past 18 months.
Poor disposal & aerobic capacity is an unfortunate set of attributes for an AFL mid.

Surely they won't bring Hunter back, we can't afford to pick a guy that is a so called specialist ruckman to only play part time in the ruck and nowhere else, we'd be better off picking an extra mid and just getting someone like Battle to pinch hit in the ruck whenever Ryder needs a chop out.

If we must bring in a 2nd ruck I’d rather play Mckernan. And I’d rather play Carlisle in the ruck before him.Honestly it’s just a bad idea looking at our ruck stocks outside of Ryder and Marshall.

Yeah I'd prefer Carlisle to either of McKernan and Hunter but I don't think he's fit at the moment and there are also doubts about McKernan's fitness.

McKernan would be a better replacement for Marshall than Hunter as at least he can play a role up forward as well as pinch hit in the ruck.

Here are my preferences for the Marshall replacement:
1 - Carlisle
2 - McKernan
3 - No replacement
4 - Bulldogs to win the flag
5 - Dunstan
6 - Hunter

A bit harsh on Dunstan, I'd rather he played than see another Bulldogs flag.

Geary defensive forward in place of Lonie
Battle in Marshall’s spot including pinch hit ruck. Does Frawley have a suitable match up?

If English returns and plays mostly forward he could look at taking him, Howard and Wilkie to take Naughton and Bruce.

It was absolutely horrible but that was his first senior game in over 12 months and there was no VFL last season; it was vs. the premiers. Wouldn't like him as a selection but we need to be fair to the guy.
We've been more than fair to him. Pretty much a liability at the level. His execution and decision making resulted in 4 first half Richmond goals.

True - so would I actually. It’s meant to illustrate how little I want to see Hunter back.

English improves their structure and gives them a third tall focal point up forward.

their midfield will cut ours to shreds. I know we said this all last week but I just don’t see how we compete with them?
Easily. Crouch to go toe to toe with Macrae as the accumulator. Both to get above 40 possessions as expected. Steele and Bont to both get 25-30 and kick a goal or two each alongside 8+ score involvements playing an inside/outside role. Billings to rack up 25-30 possessions and 2 goals to beat Hunter as the wing. Bytel to do the inside clearance work against Libba who is currently the number 1 clearance player in the comp, will do wonders for Bytel’s confidence to beat him.

Even if Carlisle wasnt injured, he was absolutely hopeless the majority of time he was playing the ruck/fwd role. He was fine against WC when on Naitanui, but beyond that just completely hopeless. Might as well be playing one short when he is up forward.

So even if Carlisle was fit, McKernan would still be the better choice as Marshall's replacement.
