Didn’t we try a couple of seasons ago and it wasn’t great? We’d also miss his marking down back which is pretty underrated.
We did try it for a brief time with mixed results but he's a lean mean fighting machine these days haha. Agree he's a rock across half back :)

No need for anything crazy. Assuming Treloar and Scott are ruled out:

Out: Treloar, Scott
In: English, Lipinski. Wouldn’t be too surprised if Garcia gets the nod either. Young or West for sub.

Down hill skiers......Who ?
MIA Half forwards......Who ?

Hannan, definitely.

Worried about Weightman when the going gets tougher for him as it will next week. He must be on the radar now.

Going to be interesting to see how Bailey Smith and JJ go next week too. They have had a bit of a revival against mediocre opposition over the last couple of weeks.

I wonder a little about Josh Bruce too, I still remember last season.

Anyway, fingers crossed, but let's see how we go against quality opposition. I have not forgotten the Richmond game, despite the glories of thrashing the Saints last weekend.

We’re 4-0 against top 8 teams, including 2 away wins.

We were in the Richmond game in the last quarter, albeit the better side on the night won.

I’m not stating that we will beat Melbourne on Friday; but there is no doubt we can beat quality opposition.

Is getting a fit English back bigger than losing Treloar, against the Dees? We need help with the ruck more than we do against the opposition midfield. Thoughts?

Arguably it is bigger if English carries on the form he had earlier in the year.

Will be interesting to see how he goes as it might take a week or two for him to get back to that level.

i worry too about his competitiveness after a serious concussion, he's not the most aggressive player at the best of times

I wonder what the odds would be if the game was at the MCG?

Melbourne are a quality side and will be top 4 this year.

This Friday is a 50/50 game in my view.

If we had a full list, with Dunks and Treloar and English etc, then I would back us in.

But we have a few key outs, and there is uncertainty over English, so that evens the ledger and maybe makes Melbourne slight favourites.

I’m not across Melbourne’s injury list. Do they have many key outs?

Fair enough, I just have some reservations on how good our depth really is (especially now that we have some of the top players missing with injury).

Our AFL and VFL teams are 14-1 with a collective % of 192.

That's with Dunkley, Treloar, English, Vandermeer, Richards, Maclean, Martin, Gardner, Jong and Ugle-Hagan unavailable, and with Crozier, Williams, Hannan, Hunter and Daniel missing at various stages.

That's pretty good evidence our depth is very solid.

Most of those guys are not far from returning too. Depth ain't an issue.

Agree on Hannan.
But the rest played very well against Port in Adelaide who are by my measure the third or fourth best team in the comp and top 2 when playing at home.
Also I'd back JJ anytime as he's shown the mental fortitude to play well in finals.

English means May and Lever must play a more accountable style imho. That’s good for us.

While that's true. I think losing an A grade player and adding a solid B is always a negative.
Also Melbourne has the only midfield in the league that worries me with us at full strength. Now there's is simply better without Treloar.

As long as we don't bomb it in like we did when the preasure was on in the Tigers game we'll be OK. I feel we are much more damaging when we lower our eyes and honour the lead up. Once we have them double guessing themselves go long :)
