Channel 10 said that Ben Rutten may have suffered damage to his medial ligament; therefore he could be out for a few weeks. Mark Riccituo is also less than a 50/50 chance to play this week due to an ankle injury.

With this in mind, what changes would you make? Is Porplyzia due to return, if so he would be the logical replacement for Roo. I guess Perrie would come in for Rutten which would force McGregor or Bock to play back.

Once again, more forced changes and unfortunately I can’t see us pulling any surprises at the selection table, instead we’ll go for the conservative approach.

Massie v Tarrant
Stevens to play the Bassett role & double team where possible.
Johncock v Farmer

Mattner back to a wing.

Reports that Perrie was asked to play in defence for NA suggests he may be used in a defensive role against Freo.

He may have been asked, but he didn't spend that long there. The time he did spend there he didn't look that impressive. Looked much more comfortable up forward, although he hardly set the world alight.

Please no!!!

Perrie is not a defender. That would be worse that moving Mattner off a wing to defence.

God I hope not!

Perrie is a forward and nothing more. I suspect that Bock will play but will be under duress just as he has been all this year so I suspect he will play in the forward line. I also think Perrie goes to the forward line and McGregor goes back to play on Pavlich. I wouldn't be surprised to see Massie line up on Tarrant.

I really don't want Massie to be given another task as a defender on a bigger forward.

We need him back in the midfield rotations where he was cutting it up there before. I don't want him to lose that confidence he had in the midfield.

Stevens on Tarrant for me. If need be Massie can play the loose man in defence. I'd go McGregor on Pavlich.

I'd go McGregor on Pavlich.
Me too. I'm trying to remember but I'm sure he has done the job (well) on Pavlich before. I remember Bock being torn to pieces in 2005 when Pavlich kicked 8 goals. Was Stevens on him in last years first final? Seem to remember he did a pretty good job too. Assuming Rutten is out, McGregor and Stevens on Pavlich and Tarrant which leaves Bock and Perrie up forward.

I hope Bock's groin isn't too bad. He really struggled after half time last week but we can't afford him to miss given that Rutten and Bassett are out and Perrie is in his first game back. With Ricciuto out Burton may play alongside Welsh out of the goal square.

Yep Stevens did the job on Pavlich in the final. But after qtr time in that game Pavlich was really starved of opportunities.

I would play Perrie deeper forward. At half forward unless he marks the ball we almost certainly lose possesion. I would much prefer this to happen in the opposition full back line rather than the half back line.

Outs: Ricciuto (inj), Rutten (inj), Doughty (omit)
Ins: Mattner, Perrie, Gill

If Bock is injured I'd keep Doughty in the side. Only reason for dropping Doughty is we have enough of those type of players in the side IMO. Gill would offer some flexibility to the forward line.

I'd have Welsh as the main full forward option. Burton to float and Perrie to contest at CHF. Douglas and Knights the crumbs. Thompson swapping with Goodwin and Edwards pinch hitting in the forward lines. Gill as an option off the bench.

In the back lines, Bock to take Tarrant. McGregor on Pavlich with Stevens helping out playing the Basset role. If Bock is injured then Stevens to take Tarrant and Torney does the Basset role.

F: Douglas Welsh Burton
HF: Knights Perrie Thompson
C: Mattner Edwards Van Berlo
HB: Stevens McGregor McLeod
B: Massie Bock Johncock
R: Hudson Goodwin Reilly
I: Shirley Maric Torney Gill

It depends on the conditions.
Massie on Buddy on a wet and windy night was a masterstroke...but to follow it up on RW on a dry and calm night no longer had the appeal.

I'm still hopeful Roo will play.

Doughty won't be dropped, especially after having 20+ possessions.

I might be way off hear, but surely Mattner needs to play on the wing! He went back to the double blues and got BOG and played the whole game on the wing! I was there, he spent every minute on his wing. He is fast, breaks away from packs and has a very nice and long kick. I know that its a different level of footy and all that, but surely the basics still apply.

He plays with instinct and flair. I dont know how many times he got the ball at a stoppage on the wing and raced away with it.

I just think with Massie, Torney, Stevens, Johncock, Mcleod, Bass, and Truck playing down back (usually) we can afford to play him on the wing.

Giving that we have two injured defenders, prob not the best time to state my case!
