Review Round 9, 2023 vs North Melbourne

Aliir had concrete hands yesterday and thought generally was outplayed by Larkey. Seems to be in a bit of rut at the moment form wise - going to need to be better against Melbourne if we are any chance.

Lycett has to play at least a half in today's game to get a feel of the footy in match conditions, if he can't do that without pulling up sore he should be no chance of selection for friday's game against the dees.

Especially as he only played one quarter last week.

Lycett can't play off a 5 day break from playing against South Adelaide?

How soft has society become?

Thought exactly the same thing. Maybe give him a half in the ruck with plenty of rotations and then another half up forward if we're that worried

I assume this 5 day break requirement is part of the AFLPA EB in relation to player recovery time? Something that is relevant for a ruckman like Lycett who has 2 relatively recent reconstructed shoulders

I took it more as opinion than policy

Its an interesting selection dilemma this week. We cant go in with just Teakle. Does Dixon miss again? Im aboard the Hayes/Teakle train but we all know it will be Lycett. If both Dixon and Marshall miss, do we potentially see Teakle forward with Lycett and Hayes playing?

Evans saved himself with a big last quarter - 8 touches, kicked 1.1 and 2 assists. second highest ball winner in the 4th after Wines.

Only North, but thats easily his biggest contribution in an AFL game

Given the number of our first 22 outs I’d be keen on getting some game experience into the young brigade coming through.

Dixon needs more time off
Marshall is going to be out for 4-6 weeks
Rioli still suspended
MG out for season
Fanta still has ??
Farrell looked ginger from his broken jaw yesterday
Lynette is done
Jonas not far behind

Take the loss, experiment with structure, and see what comes of it.

They can’t play more games!

Unless it’s ANZAC Day and magically Collingwood can play Tues and Sat.

Just do a home and away season farken, use the squad!

does any one have the average games for the teams yesterday?

With Port fielding Teakle (6 games), Lord (3), McEntee (16), Williams (7), Evans (10) and Mead (14), that’s 6 players with less than 20 games of experience.

Norths had Seezel (9), Drury (2), Bergman (6) and Spirfer (7).

I was actually a little surprised seeing the number of 200+ players as well - 3 for each side.

North’s actually have a pretty similar profile to Port. So I am surprised at how poor they were.

Norf have no excuses to be as bad as they are.

The only logical reason is because they are s**t

A nice 70 point cruising victory by the lads against a lower ranked team.
We seem to be like a boxer who susses things out in the first round, works out the right tactics and then pummels them in the 2nd.
Once again, the 2rd Quarter saw us get an unassailable lead that would be increased a bit by the end of the game.

Butters - awesome, his field kicking into the F50 has been great, taking some crazy contested marks now, hard and low when he gets the ball, BOG
Rozee - like Butters, excellent in the 2n Quarter, great player, great kicking
Horne-Francis - I was hoping for a strong game but he played well enough and had some jet moments.
Wines - a better game then expected. Nothing spectacular but good inside game.
Drew - similar to Wines but is kicking better when he has the chance
Boak - seemed a touch slow or off today. Nice goal.
Bonner - a couple of goals, a few squibs, typical game
Mead - a pretty good game when it counted but went a bit quiet later
Teakle - still learning his craft, Goldstein killed him

Finlayson - could've been BOG if he kicked straight. Manned up with Dixon out. We look great when he is rucking. HIs 2nd efforts are awesome in CC.
Lord - doesn't get in the way. Took a few marks. Looks good.
Powell-Pepper - not his usual 20 possies, is he getting tagged up front, a couple of goals
McEntee - doing his thing, playing decently, seems to hit the goals when a handpass is on
Evans - I liked his game and he is playing for a spot against McEntee. Stronger in the contest. Seems more desperate.
Burton - kinda quiet up front. Bad TO in 1st Quarter.
Marshall - a huge concern. The two hits in both weeks recently have been innocuous. With Georgiades possibly going back to WA and Marshall a huge concussion worry, we could be down 2 KPFs real soon.

Bergman - stunning game from defence, just a footballer, intercept marks, running off his man, kicking long and strong, gets in and under, plays tight on his man, starts forward thrusts from down back. It is just great to see a back man of ours confidently mark the ball instead of the uncontested two fisting. I would love to see him play a quarter in the guts to see what happens.
Houston - good game as usual, running and kicking well
Aliir - a bit under for him like last week. Still good enough. Fingers a bit buttery and not in the Zak kinda way.
McKenzie - pretty good. Can struggle on the lead though. One on one he is real good.
Williams - very good game and another that can mark from down back. Very nice kick on him too. Good one on one.
Jonas - looking old. Nice goal though.

We are a bit injured so it will be hard against Melbourne next week but we have a midfield that can go with their midfield who is the best in the comp. We will struggle in the ruck but lets see how we go head to head with them. We will kinda know where we are at next week. I am sure we will see our weaknesses but also our strengths next week.

Ratugolea is definitely the priority over McKay right now
Ratugolea is both significantly less proven and significantly more expensive than McKay, so no, absolutely not.

The Ratugolea ship has sailed, it's time to forget it. In the unlikely event he doesn't just re-sign at Geelong now that he's getting games there, he'll cost triple what he would have cost last year at the trade table. McKay costs nothing but salary cap space, of which we'll have plenty in the next few years with Dixon, Boak, Jonas soon to be moving on.

McKay has played less games than Fanta in the last five years.
It's already been pointed out to you several times that this isn't true, you ******* weirdo. You just don't respond and post it again. Are you a bot?

Looks like it will be wet Friday night so can't see them going with all the talls.

Yep, Rata is gone now. There was a window there he saw opportunity at Port, but he's getting that now at Geelong, so there's no point in coming here.

Saved himself: you have to be kidding.

Great stats for any one in their first full game; kicked two and gave two off.
Albeit, sub for two games where he did not play a full quarter in either.

He has the football smarts that we, and all good forwards need.
