Imagine two buses being dropped from many miles up? I suppose the positive if it did happen given it would over Republican leaning states it would take out a few nutters (only kidding folks).

Please tells us more. A spy Ballon has travelled right across the USA from Alaska to the east coast without consequence. It could be shot down when it first entered US air space. The CCP would be rolling around laughing. Tiawan would be thinking "here we go, we are F-cked" we are just like Afghanistan, Ukraine with this slow-witted president. The government has to be embarrassed. It is a balloon ffs. The air force has enough knowledge to work out risks and prevailing winds. They did not destroy the package; they shot the balloon structure to poke holes into it which controlled the balloon decent. It is taking forever to fall.
All this has been about the Chinese checking US reaction time, plus getting info that they may not have gotten under normal circumstances, willingness to react when faced with provocation. A typical tactic by the military to check out its foe. It's all about decision level making. The US has failed.

Until we have 1 jurisdiction funding health, the system is going to be dysfunctional.

3 major issues....

The lack of GP coverage after hours overloads emergency departments with non-urgent cases.

The lack of disability beds, leads to patients blocking acute beds for months & in many cases years, at a far higher cost.

Lack of mental health services, means psychiatric patients are usually stuck in ED for 2x other patients on average, often for days, at a far higher cost/inappropriate care.

No doubt Dan Andrews would have been gutted the balloon was taken down, surely he would have been on the phone to the USA to direct it above Victioria where his Chinese masters could watch how their guy is doing more closely

It is not about reaction time not with a balloon, considering the US has been tracking the balloon since it took off, and for information, it first passes over US soil when it passed over the Aleutians island chain before it entered Alaska and Canada. Information gathering yes but not reaction times.
Also, Chinese spy satellites garner a similar amount of information and they fly over the USA all the time
Remove the politics on this as it is a military operation and always has been, Save the politics for the new battle between China and the US.

Also, The balloon was shot down on Saturday afternoon in the U.S. territorial waters off the coast of South Carolina. After it passed over several major population centres.

Been positively confirmed, the US have been tracking it since it left Chinese airspace, and China also admit to it along with the second one no one seems to mention over Latin America.

... and it left a trail of debris 12km long - which is why they didn't want to shoot it down over populated areas, even thinly populated areas.

Agree but why wasn't it shot down over the Aleutians. It was allowed to cover over a continent. Politics has to come into it. I think the military would be loving this. Imho $$$$
Being shot down early would have embarrassed the Chinese.

Too early a lack of information and no need for it is a Known Known, the only harm it was doing was feeding some bull on the political front.
And the US would have gathered just as much information if not more than the Chinese,
If shot down earlier It may have then landed in Russian or Canadian-controlled regions, making it a major international issue with more than a couple of countries involved. and the US miss out on some of China's latest tech.
The US military had a plan and stuck with it. And they did not give up any secrets or any information on how they are protecting the US mainland.

Just curious why did Japan and Canada not shoot it down, was it because they listen to their military and utilized the data to their advantage,

Ever thought this was part of a strategic game, with China not testing US defensive measures because in that they got nothing, but US political attitudes and one could say that China won that battle, they created a situation that caused US politicians to react against each other. And typical politics in the US fell for hook line and sinker.
