EKA Medal

Every season, the EKA Medal is awarded to the rookie player whom the Committee representatives vote to be the best performed poster amongst that seasons class. The EKA is named after former administrator from seasons 2-4 EaglesKickAss, and has been awarded since Season 8. Some of the best Qootiers of all time have won this award, including The Half Back, @pantskyle, brahj, @wooshette and Elton Johns Wig, all of whom went on to bigger and better things.

The rookie class of S30 was small in numbers, but big on quality, with players like PMBangers, Mister M, Kilroy, T2B_, Muddiemoose, guero, tony, FootyGuy13, Supersuns, BLUEALLTHRU, RobR , omgfridge, kickthething and MC Bad Genius all prominent throughout the season, and some others who were less involved but had terrific moments. Many of these were brought to our league by the failed expansion bids of the Vampires and Serpents in S29, and Millky95 and haydo and their teams should be appreciated for their work in recruiting. Thank you for joining our league, I hope that you enjoyed yourselves and that you stick around and make it your own.

The Committee voted 3-2-1 for the best rookie in the league, with votes for their own players not permitted. 10 of the 12 clubs voted, I won’t shame the recalcitrant duo here.

Without further ado, the third place getter is Muddiemoose, of the Las Vegas Bears, on 5 votes. A member of the Vampires bid, MM made himself at home early, and found a gimmick with his username that kept him towards the front of the rookie pack all season.

In second place is RobR. With a name like that, he was always going to be a Roy! Rob was the only rookie other than the winner to secure a set of 3 votes as the best rookie, and he has become a fixture and a breath of fresh air in Roys threads in S30. We all know that second place is traditionally the place to finish in this award, as Kennedy Parker has proven! Congrartulations to RobR, you look like having a fine Qooty career.

And the runaway winner of the Season 30 EKA Medal is East Side Hawks rookie PMBangers. Clearly the best and most consistent poster in this season’s crop, Bangers immersed himself in the culture of the Hawks and the league, and won many friends and fans for his affable style and effusive personality. PMBangers received a total of 24 votes from the Committee, and records the biggest winning margin in many seasons. He was the most prominent rookie in the beez Medal, finishing 9th, and produced some media of a quality far outstripping his newbie status, such as the Science of Melting and the Rookie Re-draft threads.

Please be upstanding and raise your glasses to the S30 EKA Medallist PMBangers, and in appreciation to all rookies who have joined us. You may now all go home to bed, and collect your drinking licenses on the way out. We will see you in your sophomore season as seasoned campaigners grizzling about spammy rookies!

Well Done, PMBangers.
Congrats PMBangers ! The baton is now in your hands. 😍

Mount Buller Demons 7.5 (47) lost to Fighting Furies 19.11 (125) by Barrybran

Both teams entered this one coming off losses, the Demons to Roys FFC by 39 points and the Furies to Dragons FFC by 33 points.

The Furies had a slight edge in the first quarter kicking four goals to two to lead by 14 points at quarter time. The Furies dominated the second term, kicking 6.5, including three goals to The Half Back, to no score to extend their lead to a commanding 55 points at half time.

The third quarter was similar to the first however the Furies kicked away again in the fourth quarter to win by 78 points.

1607767287457.png Sin City Swamprats 10.11 (71) defeated Dragons FFC 9.10 (64) by GremioPower

There was plenty of hype surrounding R11’s Match of the Round. It is not usual, but this game actually lived up to its hype. Both teams showed why they are among S30’s best, with the reigning premiers just scaping out of a strong push from the visitors to keep their winning streak (now, at 9 games) alive.

Since the air-conditioning system of The Underground has broken down and needs to be fixed, the match was played in what felt like a gigantic sauna. This only added drama to the game, when the Dragons were on the verge of coming back and winning in the last term – after being 24 points down at HT. (SCS 37-13 DRA) Still, Sparkle scored Sin City’s last 7 points, and those 7 points ended up being the difference for the hosts. Finals score: SCS 71-64 DRA.

For the Rats, Ant Bear owned the ruck (14 HO, 26 disp.), while GotTheGoodes (12 M, 35 disp.) dominated the center square like a tyrant. Nunez and ant555 combined for 16 tackles and 44 disposals. No wonder they were all exhausted at the end of the match.

The Dragons used marks to save energy and patiently getting back into the game. The strategy almost took them to victory. Pie 4 Life, Matt_352, and Blaze Storm combined for 34 marks; while A Swallow was a workhorse, finishing the match with 9 tackles.

1607767224689.png Las Vegas Bears 8.9 (57) lost to Gold City Royals 10.6 (66) by MWPP

In a Hunger Games themed round inspired by yours truly, these teams locked horns for their second match of the season. The first matchup featured 2 unbeaten teams and was billed MOTR before a 138 page monster thread with a combination of banter, BnFs and Batchelor updates. This one was a little more subdued and thankfully also less hyperactive, but was still engaging.

On a Rainy Game Day at the Bears’ beloved Stadium In the Sky, these rivals resumed hostilities. The Bears started slowly in the first quarter and trailed the classy Royals 12 points at the first change. The second quarter was a low scoring , hard fought scrap but eventually the Bears’ defensive pressure and 1%ers made all the difference and allowed them to peg the margin back to just 5 points at half time. The game opened up in the third quarter as the Bears piled on 4 goals to the Royals’ 3 and take a slim 2 point lead into the final quarter, but ultimately ran out of legs and didn’t make the most of their chances as they slumped to a disappointing 9 point loss to the highly rated Royals.

Young Royal Kapow!! (23 possessions, 82 DT points) impressed with a best on ground performance which Royals Skipper The Filth Wizard (3 goals) and Fred leader benefited strongly from. He was supported by experienced duo nahnah (19 disposals, 87 DT points) and MrPremiership (78 DT points) Evergreen Bear kane249 rewound the clock with 19 disposals and paired well with “second year” Western Stand Warrior (22 possessions, 81 DT points). The Bears’ paid the price for inaccuracy as none of their forwards fired whilst the Royals just had too many contributors across the ground.

1607767305021.png West Coast Wonders 14.14 (98) lost to Gumbies FFC 16.9 (105) by Barrybran

The West Coast Wonders sought to avenge a narrow 2-point loss to the East Side Hawks as they hosted Gumbies FFC, who entered this game on a four-game winning streak after accounting for the Baghdad Bombers by 23 points.

An even first term saw both teams kick three goals however inaccurate kicking helped the Wonders to a four point lead at the first change. The Gumbies kicked away in the second quarter kicking six goals to no score behind @TalkingFootNow1223’s four goals to lead by 34 points at the main break. The Wonders peppered the scoreboard in the third quarter however inaccurate kicking meant they only closed the gap by 17 points heading into the last term. Another six goals in the final term saw the Wonders pull ahead late in the fourth before goals to peterss and Rodney Dangerfield steadied the ship and gave the Gumbies a seven-point win.

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the iDon show.

The Warriors travelled to Abdu Prison off the back of two losses and a two-point deduction for the crime of not living in a place that observes the custom of daylight savings. The hosts were one win clear but were looking to lift for club stalwart iDon. And in game number 450 both they and he didn’t disappoint, leading the Babylonians to a stirring come-from-behind victory thanks to his 9 goals, three of which coming in the decisive final quarter.

He was well serviced by Pugsley (26 disposals/4 tackles/1 goal), cadsky (21 disposals/8 tackles/1 goal), ArdentEagle (25 disposals/1 goal), CALL ME SNAKE (24 disposals/4 marks) and TheCoach16 (17 disposals/6 marks/2 goals). The other notable performance from the Bombers came from rookie MITS, whose 25 disposals and 10 marks from a wing were enough to earn him a Gun of the Season nomination.

For the visitors, it was the same old story – a lot of individual eye-catching performances yet unable to collectively come away with the four points. The ruck/ruck-rover combination of harry000 (32 touches/15 hitouts/4 tackles/1 goal) and captain TheInjuryFactory (29 touches/7 tackles/1 goal) gave great effort, as did veteran Freofalcon (27 touches/5 marks), zackah (25 touches/4 marks/1 goal), NaturalDisaster (5 goals), RelaxMax (24 touches/6 marks) and rookie FootyGuy13 (21 touches/6 marks/1 goal). Meanwhile Doctor Colossus was happy to hug as he racked up 8 tackles, and BEEG, Dinsdale and Smoooothy chimed in with a couple of goals each.

1607767267675.png Roys FFC 13.3 (81) defeated East Side Hawks 6.9 (45) by Mooch

Round 11: The Hawks had lifted themselves off the bottom with a morale-boosting 2-point win over the hapless Wonders last week, while the Roys had done their hopes of making top 4 with a comprehensive victory over the Demons.

Both teams, full of confidence, got out of the blocks at quite a pace. A snail’s pace. Goals to PMBangers and Supersuns was just about all there was to talk about in the first quarter. Itsmyshow got the Hawks off to a dream start in the second with a goal after just 12 seconds. But 6 goals from 6 scorers (Runk, GCB85, Mooch, 3KZ is Football, royboy2 and _Mike_) put the Roys firmly in the driving seat by half time.

And so it continued. Jacknah_8 (14 hitouts) gave The Jesus a lesson in tap work, and Supersuns was sublime in the middle with 17 touches, 7 tackles and 2 goals. SM (18 disposals, 1.1 goals) and Agent93 (14 touches, 6 tackles) tried hard to lift their team. But failed. Roys skipper TedDougChris will go down in the history books for this game. A game where he took 2 marks but only registered 1 disposal. That one will baffle quizzers for years to come I’m sure.

TFLUA-Tiger Award

The TFLUA_Tiger Award was created as the Committees choice of the best player in the sim back in Season 12, in response to the proclivity of ruckmen winning the Mobbefuhrer Medal. In S28, ownership of this award was given back to the Committee, who voted on whatever criteria they each felt most appropriate for the best player of the season, on a 3-2-1 basis

This season saw some diversification in the voting, with a range of performances coming into consideration by the various clubs. 8 of the 12 clubs cast their votes, with none permitted to vote for their own player, and it was significant that only 2 players received more than one set of 3 votes – and neither of these were the winner!

Without further ado, the third and second placegetters were both from the Sin City Swamprats. Nunez has been a prolific votewinner in all forms of the game – he has a Mobbenfuhrer Medal already to his credit – and received 2 sets of 3 votes to finish third, on 8 votes. Teammate Firestarter was a bit of a smokey for this award (pun intended), but has been on fire (!!!) off half-back in S30 and received a total of 9 votes to finish second, testimony to the creative thinking of several Committee members.

However, the winner was the most consistent votegetter from the participating Committee members. Tonga Bob might have only received one vote as the best player in any position in S30, but he received supporting votes from 6 Clubs to finish on 11 votes, and he is therefore awarded the TFLUA_Tiger Award for #30. Tong Bob is a rising star of this league, having finished second in the EKA Medal last season, and has been an active and fun opponent and clubman, whose work in tonight’s count should not be underestimated (if you skim-read the match reports, make sure that you read at least some of Bobby’s work)

Congratulations to Tonga Bob, raise your glasses and toast the S30 TFLUA_Tiger winner.

I won a Tiger-YELLOW AND BOB!!!-I won a Tiger award!!!

Thank you so much to the [checks notes] participating Committee members, the SFA and the mighty Wazzas!!!

LET’S GET PISSED!!!!
