Who knows. The manipulation of FA compo this year is completely out of hand. Add in PP's, Academy and GC's picks being used to move half the comp up the ladder, and this year is a complete and utter sh*t show.
if compo manipulation was afoot, the saints would be pushing for FA (maybe this is their tactic....pushing a trade to up our offer)

Saints would be pushing for FA either with or without the Shiel Deal.

Saints also do not decide whether it will be FA or not. The player does.

The way RFA works is initially Saints do nothing.

Player nominates a club.

That club then lodges the FA paperwork.

AFL then normally advise what the FA compo will be.

The player's club then advises if they will match or not.

If matched player then decides if he still wants to leave or not. If wants to leave the two clubs then have to try and negotiate a normal trade.

St Kilda matching is probably the best result for most Essendon fans, don’t think anyone really wants him unless it’s a cheaper deal or we were able to flip Shiel (which isn’t happening)

Essendon can still get him for free in terms of picks if they offer a suitable salary. That's still a massive win for Essendon.

And it's not like they can't afford the salary.

lol 😂

this whole situation has turned into a goalpost measuring contest. It’s not even about Gresham anymore, just SOS and Dodos ego

Yep, the clubs should send in the women from the back office to work out the deal, and send Dodo and SOS into the locker room with a tape measure.

There’s still a price to pay, I just don’t see him being good enough to justify it in year 2,3,4 etc

Maybe the saints are actually the problem? Asking for overs for a player you clearly don't value and offering unders for Henry when you've been courting him.
yes StKilda clearly the problem

free agency closes tomorrow and StKilda clearly stopping Dodo from submitting the paperwork

:drunk:

Essendon configures his contract offer where Hawthorn/North can't/won't match. SOS knows the strategy well.

cough Jack Martin cough
Exactly, that is a last resort though. Saints posturing at the moment, they won't match. Gresham aint going back to St Kilda as much as the fans are sprouting 'he likes everyone still, no issues at all, welcome back with open arms'. We have never seen a free agent go back to the club after nominating another club and Jade won't be the first one.

Thr PSD threat makes zero sense. Hawthorn and especially North aren't letting him get past their pick.

If they were interested they would’ve been in the hunt for RFA. You don’t sign a player on a big contract knowing full well they don’t want to be there. It’s not like taking a punt on a rookie for 1-2 years on base salary…

If North can't fit any salary into their books right now, whoever is doing the books needs to be sacked.

It's a completely different position Carlton were in where it was Gold Coast picking before them who were struggling for cap space and Melbourne who just played in a preliminary final.

Follow up a few posts there's a tweet mentioning saints trying to force a trade.

Seems an odd tactic (if true)

I am not sure what you referring to, and the use of the world "force".

St Kilda has the right to match the FA contract that Essendon puts up. If matched, then yes it can go to trade depending on the players decision.
No Band 1 would most likely go straight through.
Band 2 would probably go through.
Band 3 would most likely be matched.

Where a Restricted Free Agent’s Current Club matches the Offer and the Player wishes to participate in the AFL Competition in the following year, the Restricted Free Agent must either:
(i) enter into a Contract of Service in accordance with the Matching Offer with his Current Club within 7 days of the provision of notice of the Matching Offer to the restricted Free Agent under Rule 17.5(e); or
(ii) nominate for the Draft (unless the Player is part of an exchange under Rule 9).
