Is this not correct? This comes up with priority picks search:

The Eagles have a good record when using priority picks, selecting future Brownlow medallist and premiership captain Chris Judd (pick No.3) in 2003 while nabbing captain Luke Shuey (pick No. 18) in 2008 and Jack Darling (pick No. 26) after they claimed their first wooden spoon in 2010
Were we not supposed to get pick #3 for finishing 14th that year or something?

Can you provide the link? It looks like it was written by someone who doesn't know what a priority pick is.

You were in the exact same spot as us in 2020. Why should you be rewarded for incompetence?
Because it’s been granted to countless other clubs….as it should be if you find yourself in our position. You think it’s just incompetence that got us here? And other clubs were completely competent, but just unlucky?
We’ve made some bad calls, absolutely, but happens to all clubs at some point in time. The venom towards North for getting two fifths of what other clubs have been gifted over time is pretty bloody tiring.

How would you be if your are the Saints watching what the Roos are getting spoon fed now, or even Freo.

The AFL's actions this last few weeks means they as clubs, have been negligent by not trading out anyone that was half decent, tanking and completey imploding and sitting on their backsides until the AFL rides in like Santa on steroids and shafts every other club.

Of course maybe they win a Premiership from where they are, but happy to bet we will see the Roos pass at least one of these clubs (likely both) by 2026.

Zero draft incentive for Geelong (Tigers, gee what a shiteshow getting Taranto and Hopper under the current system) to not to completely bottom out.

Fair, I understand the, other clubs got it so should we.

I personally think priority picks are unfair and an ineffective way to go about equalisation.

Also, as a supporter of a club that has never got a priority pick, and in fact has at times gotten the opposite, I find it incredible frustrating, that it seems like the AFL just decides they want to help certain teams, even if they’re shitting the bed consistently.

See below. It’s a history or priority picks, but you actually got sampi at 6 instead as priority

It also comes up in Wikipedia that Judd was a priority pick.

Fair enough - It looks like Judd was a priority pick (didn't know that). That said, there were two priority picks prior to that one: WC's original pick 3 had slid down to 6 from due to the 3 priorities (so in theory they'd have gotten Judd anyway in an uncompromised system).

Luke Hodge - PP #1 (Hawks)
Luke Ball - PP #2 (Saints)
Chris Judd - PP #3 (Eagles)

I heard a rumour darling was a priority pick????

Surely not?

Judd and darling as priority picks and they seem so triggered by norths 3 picks in the 20’s.

I don’t understand
Chris Judd was a priority pick at 3 in a year where West Coast already had pick 3 to start with. So without any priority picks handed out that year, West Coast would've picked... Chris Judd. They would've missed out on Sampi, though.

Jack Darling was a second round priority pick at pick 26. Meh.

Yeah fair call, but the interesting word you used there is equalisation.
It’s not equal. The playing field is not equal(fk me that word looks weird on its own)
Probably a discussion for another thread, but the comp is a manipulated, manufactured product at the moment. Until they make it equal this will continue to be the case. Each team should be playing each other the same amount of times, not certain blockbuster games every year that have to have return fixtures in the same year etc.
Some teams barely travel and things like that. So it can become a certain doom loop for clubs. FA doesn’t appear to be helping either. Players just leave to go to a premiership contender.

The funny thing is West Coast won 5 games that season and qualified for it. Had it been 4 wins (which they changed to a few years later) they would’ve ended up with no PP and only their natural pick 5. Fremantle would’ve ended up with Judd at 3.

Saints had Riewoldt and Freo had Haselby didn’t they. Could hardly complain now.
Geelong we’re the beneficiaries of F/S in a system that has now changed dramatically.
Richmond got Delidio and Rance.

These things are endless.

We already had pick one the year we picked Riewoldt, so really we would've missed out on Kosi. Handy player, good guy, but not Riewoldt.

Krueger was similar thing too no? Like you didn’t finish last but had the win/loss threshold or something.
As I’ve said, these things are endless.

But in fairness, you could’ve taken someone else instead of Kosi. Didak could play a bit. It’s not really the point. A lot of clubs have had a fair lick of the ice cream, it was north’s turn. There will be others.
