Disappointing loss but plenty to like from some of our young guys. My rough notes below:

Saxena - Did a lot of really nice things. I think he has real potential. Looks super clean and brings that combination of speed and skill. He is one I really like the look of.

Howes - He looked really good again. A lot of attention has been on his aerial skills but what I also really like about him is his kicking skills. He looks a real find.

Hill - Quiet first half but excellent in the second. He looked like his old self in that second half. They will make him earn it, but you feel he will be back in the AFL side within the next 2-3 weeks.

Allan - He was excellent. Two classy goals in the 3rd quarter on the run. Has come under a lot of criticism for his performances in the AFL this season but I really think he needs a shot playing in the guts. He brings a turn of speed with ball in hand that we don’t have outside of Daicos.

Ryan - Was solid, but I just don’t think he will break into the side over our half backs. He doesn’t have a discernible trait that jumps off the page but I think he was solid.

West - Quiet in terms of numbers, but he is going to be a star for us in my opinion. Had an excellent 1V1 win against Mraz, who is really highly rated by Hawks fans as a young key back. He just has such sticky hands. He should be in the AFL side IMO, but will have to bide his time as we persist with Buller.

Jiath - Looks way too laconic at times, but seemed to fire up late in the second after an incident with a Hawthorn player and played a lot better. Think he needs to play with that aggression more. Similar to Ryan, just can’t see him breaking into the side and doesn't do anything at a high level.

Smit - Great for his development that Steene is playing in the AFL side. He still looks raw and no where near an AFL player yet. Will really need to improve aerially to become an AFL player.

Swadling - I love him. He is a real talent. As I have said previously, his decision making / skill execution will improve in time (eg: young Maynard). He just finds the footy, looks composed and has real evasive skills. I expect him to mature into a midfielder in time, but a really promising prospect.

Prindable - Athletically he is really limited, but looks clean and composed with ball in hand. Had some nice evasive moments and well executed kicks but will need to show more ability to win the footy to make it at AFL level given his lack of speed.

McCarthy - Super raw. He is a couple of years off it. Did some nice things but needs more size and will need to get a bit more mongrel to make it.

Sullivan - Assuming he got injured early? Didn’t see him after the first quarter.

Not being a target might be showing where West's craft is at. Being in the right spot to be hit is the craft.

Wouldn’t put a lot of stock in not getting hit on the lead by his teammates considering the skill levels and it’s not like he hasn’t kicked bags at VFL level (under a different coach who I think made us look more cohesive than what I’m seeing this year). Unless his GPS are shite I think he’s a good case for benefit from AFL exposure against a bottom 10 defensive unit.

So, Allan, 3 VFL games, arguably 3 BOGs. Nice goals tonight too.

I thought Phillips in the middle was good, excellent vision, hands and decisions. Set up Eds second goal with excellent vision and skill.

Prindables best VFL game to-date, he looked sprightly, good at times by foot and in traffic.

Westy quieter game but still showed his class at times.

CFC lacked a little class out there, I believe the commentators said Box Hill had 16 AFL listed players and CFC had 10. It was the difference IMO.

West was Quiet buy also showed his Class

Not sure why the Ball does not go to him as much it a Something he needs to Work On or Team should look for him more

He shows a bit at VFL Level but has not translated it too AFL yet

Prindable - Athletically he is really limited, but looks clean and composed with ball in hand. Had some nice evasive moments and well executed kicks but will need to show more ability to win the footy to make it at AFL level given his lack of speed.

Agree best game he has played and did some nice things

It's good that Allan is consistently carving up the VFL. It seems lack of confidence has been a problem for him. Dominating in the VFL should give him more belief and help his AFL performance.

An issue is that midfield looks his best position offensively, but at the moment he doesn't seem to have the defensive side to play there at senior level. Needs to be able to stick tackles.

With his height and running ability, an AFL career is likely. If he can tackle and use his running to become a strong pressure player, then he makes it without a doubt.

He's a really exciting talent. Outstanding in contest at that level. A really high percentage of his goals are contested marks. Buller was getting more uncontested marks. I suggest that's why he's in - reads the game better at this stage. West reads it really well in the air though.

Both in the VFL and Seniors our mids at CB, stand back shoulder and are always lead to the ball instead of being proactive to get first possession.
Even Bianco who is slow, was winning first possession.
No idea why we chose to be so defensive.

Anyone have an update on Harvey Harrison’s injury?
dont think its serious. Maybe just a niggle. Did agility and running on the sidelines on tues.

The best news this season
So now we potentially have a tall, agile, good kick, great leap, strong hands defender
Like I said, the best news of the year

Saxena - Did a lot of really nice things. I think he has real potential. Looks super clean and brings that combination of speed and skill. He is one I really like the look of.
great promise for our F50 of the future

Play them or trade them

TBH, the first time I saw him kick I thought he wouldn't make it - his disposal is erratic bc of ball drop
Add to this, imo, his lack of in-game awareness...I struggle to seee him making it

Smit - Great for his development that Steene is playing in the AFL side. He still looks raw and no where near an AFL player yet. Will really need to improve aerially to become an AFL player.
Agree - as I'll say below, we needed another developing ruck and we saw opportunity in an aggressive athletic newcomer - well worth the shot and need to persist
Swadling - I love him. He is a real talent. As I have said previously, his decision making / skill execution will improve in time (eg: young Maynard). agree

McCarthy - Super raw. He is a couple of years off it. Did some nice things but needs more size and will need to get a bit more mongrel to make it.
Probs why he went at 55 - everyone knows he's a couple seasons away

Give me Jiath over Ryan any day. He's a smooth mover and seems to be filling out into a solid frame. I have hope!

I thought Ryan played better then Jiath last night
