For those playing at home, over the past 14 years there has been an average turnover of 2.6 teams going out of the top 8. In that time it has never been less than 2 and never more than 4.

A huge amount of turnover inside the top 8 from 2020 to 2021 - a whopping 4 teams in/out of the finals.

1. Lions
2. Cats
3. Tigers
4. Saints
5. Power
6. Bulldogs
7. Demons
8. Blues
9. Eagles
10. Giants
11. Suns
12. Pies
13. Dockers
14. Swans
15. Crows
16. Bombers
17. Roos
18. Hawks

Overrated the Tiges, Saints and Blues. Underrated the two NSW teams, especially the Swannies as well as the Bombers.

1. Geelong
2. Port Adelaide
3. Richmond (P)
4. Western Bulldogs
5. Brisbane Lions
6. GWS
7. St Kilda
8. Carlton

9. West Coast
10. Fremantle
11. Collingwood
12. Gold Coast
13. Melbourne
14. Sydney
15. Hawthorn
16. Essendon
17. North Melbourne
18. Adelaide
West Coast and Port Adelaide the only ones I got in the right spot, though Geelong, GWS, Fremantle, Hawthorn and North Melbourne were all very close to getting the right spot. Brisbane and the Dogs would've been in the right spot with half a minute less of game time :p

Sydney, Melbourne, Essendon, Carlton, Collingwood and Richmond the worst calls there.

1. Geelong - great H&A team topping up for another go around
2. West Coast - if we have to hub I reserve the right to drop them
3. Richmond - not going anywhere should remain hungry
4. Brisbane - another proven H&A team, finals is their deficiency
5. Port Adelaide - I don’t trust the team as a whole or the coach, but it’s impossible to argue against their young core improving
6. St Kilda - steady pick
7. Sydney - mild surprise pick but they’ve done a stealth refresh if not a total rebuild
8. Melbourne - basing this on their player for player talent alone rather than coaching or collective spirit

9. Western Bulldogs - Beveridge grace period to be tested further with more inconsistency
10. Carlton - middle of the road inconsistent team
11. Fremantle - can’t imagine their forward line is potent enough to deliver finals
12. Collingwood - too many spotfires off field and gaps on field.
13. GWS - Leon sacked mid year
14. Essendon - too many mature veterans or players in their prime years to be a total write-off
15. Gold Coast - Dew is not the answer as coach. Lack of scrutiny and absence of a fan base to call for his head will be an issue
16. Hawthorn - starting a rebuild arc
17. Adelaide - continuing a rebuild arc
18. North Melbourne - directionless

Finalists: 5/8
Exact: Brisbane, Fremantle, North
One away: Sydney, Gold Coast
Worst overestimation: West Coast and Richmond (out by 9 on both)
Worst underestimation: Melbourne (out by 7), Essendon, GWS (out by 6 on both)
Best prediction: Pies to miss finals
Worst prediction: Eagles second

Now that lists are settled, this is my ladder:

1. Geelong
2. Brisbane
3. Port Adelaide
4. Richmond
5. Melbourne
6. St Kilda
7. Bulldogs
8. West Coast
------------------
9. Fremantle
10. Gold Coast
11. Carlton
12. GWS
13. Collingwood
14. Sydney
15. Hawthorn
16. Essendon
17. Adelaide
18. North Melbourne

Same top 4 and almost identical top 8 except Melbourne coming in at the expense of Collingwood. There's bound to be a couple of surprise jumps and surprise falls though
Pretty good effort. Sydney, Essendon, Richmond and Gold Coast probably the only ones I got really wrong.

Best prediction: Pies to miss finals

Your best prediction was probably Sydney to make finals, a whole host wrote them off completely earlier in the thread.

Collingwood was always a huge possibility (some would say probability) to drop off given their off-season...

My guess is the top 4 will be different to last year. The amount of people who predict the same but different order every year is quiet surprising. It is usually a team outside the 8 who comes in too.
Spot On

That's the point. The ladder at the end of 2019 was like this.

Geelong
Brisbane
Richmond
Collingwood
WC
GWS
Bulldogs
Essendon
Hawks
Port

Port came from no where to get into the top 4. It would only take a few key injuries to one of the top team or a bad run of form to drop them back to the pack. Sport is such a confidence thing, once you get on a roll or bad run, it becomes easier to sustain or very hard to get out of it.

That said, it's bloody hard to predict the future.

Here's mine.

Port
Geelong
Freo
Brisbane
Bulldogs
Richmond
Saints
Carlton
Melbourne
WC
GC
GWS
Hawks
Sydney
Essendon
Collingwood
Adelaide
North
Actual Prediction way off. Wanted Freo to be the Bolter when it was Melbourne. Missed SydneyEssendon completely too.

I'll give it a red hot fang 'cos why not, get in there boys

1. Brisbane
2. Richmond
3. Port Adelaide
4. St Kilda
5. Gold Coast
6. Fremante
7. West Coast
8. Carlton
----------
9. Geelong
10. GWS Giants
11. Collingwood
12. Adelaide
13. Western Bulldogs
14. Hawthorn
15. Sydney
16. Melbourne
17. Essendon
18. North Melbourne

Got no clue what'll happen next year so this is my random guess, let's check back in a year and see how rubbish I am at this thing
Picked 2 teams to finish in 8. That’s a fail.

This is based on gut feeling at this current time. I will post plenty more predictions as the months pass by

1. Brisbane (Best Forward Line, one of the best defences and one of the best midfield in the league)
2. Richmond (Simply unstoppable at times, but will drop a few games)
3. St Kilda (Huge risers, potentially a candidate for the 2021 flag)
4. Collingwood (last chance as their list is getting old)
5. Western Bulldogs (Upcoming risers, won't be out of the 8 for a while)
6. Carlton (Same Scenario as above)
7. Port Adelaide (Will fall down a couple of places, however, their best is unbelievable)
8. Geelong (last time you'll see Geelong in the 8 for a few years)
9. West Coast (very stiff, however, it'll be because of injuries)
10. Gold Coast (upcoming risers, pencil in a top 8 spot for 2022)
11. Melbourne (Nomans land)
12. Sydney (upcoming risers, however, need possibly another 2 years before threatening the flag again)
13. Fremantle (amazing coach, wouldn't be surprised if they make the 8 in 2021. this is the worse possible outcome)
14. Adelaide (rebuilding)
15. Essendon (rebuilding)
16. GWS (Fall from grace, lost a lot of talent and injuries will come again)
17. Hawthorn (rebuilding, however, will take nearly a decade to be premiership contenders again)
18. North Melbourne (lost soul, however rebuilding)
Fair effort
