Autopsy 8 point loss to Port

You might be right, but I just think on current form Lloyd is on borrowed time anyway once players start returning from injury (if that ever happens...) I feel like we've moved Florent around a lot for example and he's never really changed his trajectory, so not sure I see him lifting just because we've dropped Lloyd. It might take something more drastic to get that lift out of him.
I more so just don't want to see us get it out of the goal square in 2 kicks so quickly to have it in transition only for Lloyd to take 20 seconds just to boot it 40 metres down the line

Florent was actually ok yesterday when he had the ball.

Imo someone like Roberts in the bests and Florent copping it is like people just read the disposal numbers and don't watch .

Lloyd's been dogshit let's be honest , teams risk adverse and he is stops us every ****en time he gets the ball.

Momentum killer

I guess the difference is that Roberts was poor yesterday but has been solid this year, and is 21 years old and not even played 50 games yet. Florent is 27 in a few months and played nearly 170 games. If they're even comparable then that is a problem worthy of being debated IMO.

True .

Florent certainly doesn't appear to be a leader out there even though he is a veteran really.

Yesterdays side didn't seem to have many leaders at all.

Regarding Roberts I thought he neatened up his disposal as the game went on, mopped up and intercepted well. Can still blaze away with a few hack kicks where he has more time and space but still plenty of times he's fairly composed with ball in hand. Been a bit of a yin and yang in that area.

Has Francis ever played forward before as I was surprised with his performance when he come on.Will he play again next week and as forward?
Many times by Essendon and a handful of times by the Swans.

Francis is one of the biggest headcases when it comes to set-shot kicking though, so he quickly gets sent back.

I'd still prefer him to McCartin playing forward but Essendon fans would find it so ironic that our solution to leaving Tommy out of the forward line is by giving Aaron the gig instead.

I watched again

That first half , don’t think we have been that bad for some time.

Never seen kicking like that
The basics cost us so badly yesterday. One of the most frustrating games I've ever watched in person.

The decision-making was equally as poor though. I've never seen a more dominant performance from Ratugolea in his career but our desire to continually kick in his direction (and over the leading forward he'd be marking) was baffling.

If we miss finals, this is one of the definitive performances we will be left to rue at the end of the season.

The worst thing now, is for the players to feel sorry for themselves.

Not really sure what to do with Lloyd because if he is just cooked then dropping him doesn't really move the needle much. He probably ends up stuck in the VFL because he's not suddenly going to turn back the clock at the lower level if his body won't allow it. Then we just end up one senior player short while guys like Florent & McInerney, who we need to be good players over the next 5 years, continue on their way being average.

I'd prefer us play the long game and use the selection axe for something meaningful and productive. Sending a player to the reserves who could actually improve as a player by working on their craft at the lower level and coming back better for it. I'd take that short-term sacrifice if it spares us another 4-5 years of frustration with Florent, McInerney
It moves the teams needle if you drop him, I don’t care so much if he improves or not, it’s the team he impacts by slowing up the play when we have a bit of momentum.

You drop Lloyd because he can’t contribute. Not because he can’t play. It’s not about improvement in him, it’s about where he now fits in this team.

This!

BUT also look who is bottom for pressure acts for Sydney behind both the sub and the guy who subbed off, behind even the guy who subbed off for Port with a heart condition.

Plays defence, highly paid All Australian.

Elephant in the room is how disinterested and pathetic he actually looks in a contest, masked behind getting decent stats for possies and metres gained

Not long until I get banned from the swans facebook page. Seriously, don't happy clap a shithouse performance like that, tell me I don't know what I'm talking about and to follow another team, when you are claiming that as a good effort and bemoaning the injured players not in out first grade side.

Some of our northern based fans are as dumb as the first half decision making of our players.
I hear you mate. It’s basically wine sipping mums saying “gotta cheer for the boys no matter what. If you don’t then you should support another team”
It’s like there’s a group of them that have a cut and paste waiting for any critical post.
Those types need to stick to cheering their 10 year old no matter what.

Reading all the various things being said I'm led to wonder who could genuinely be proud of their game yesterday. Not that it was perfect, that would be silly, but that they put in a real effort that was effective and that their teammates and the coaches would be happy with?
My take (not in any kind of order):
Francis Grundy
Heeney Rowbottom
Wicks Bice
McLean Rampe
Roberts got a lot of possessions but I think would/should be dissatisfied with his game, Hamling put in a fair effort but was beaten too often by average players.
The rest need to have a good, hard think about what needed to be different. Some put in effort but were ineffective, some not much at all. I recall seeing McInerney do a centering kick and thinking "gee, that has no penetration on it at all" as it fell short and led to a turnover. No crispness in our execution, except for a few.

2 main issues, ball use inside 50 and our forwards are average when on song, so the poor efficacy going forward exacerbates the inabilities of our guys inside 50
Every goal we kick seems like such hard work.
Nothing comes easy atm.

The game plan is not definable so it’s really hard to pinpoint many of our shortcomings in relation to execution of a game plan.

Bit of both, if people want to cheer for Sydney and say they are great every week without fail, then go for it, people should just support how they want. You should also be able to be honest without being told to support another club

Hamling had an average game , but I think overall he has been solid this year and shouldn’t be shoved out the door, that’s the easy reactionary change imo

I felt like Roberts turned a corner in the second half yesterday. He’d been horrific disposal wise for 2 games now.
He started to make some better decisions are really showed he wanted the loose ball showing some desperation.
