Traded Bryce Gibbs [traded to Adelaide] - (cont. in Part 2)

No such thing as a meaningless win for Carlton Kristof. They'll take anything, even maintaining the status quo when keeping Gibbs was cause for joyous celebration and claims of a massive win over the Crows.

Joyous celebration? Geez you blokes make some s**t up. Yes, it was a no-lose situation with Gibbs. Carlton either kept the player they wanted or got something they preferred in exchange; and just like the Crows, they preferred the Gibbs option to what was on offer. Not sure why it bothers you blokes so much that Carlton fans would be pleased with the outcome, or that last w'ends win actually mattered to the playing group. Strange!

Many of your posters have claimed the nil all draw as a win for Carlton. You should take more notice of your brethren.

Gota say it's nice to see a club take a stand. Don't sign a contract and take the money if you're not willing to follow through with that contract.

Gary Ablett board.

How is making a player who doesnt want to be there 'making a stand'?
It is meant to be a footy club not a torture camp/prison.

Just pathetic that Carlton is still trying to act like it is the 1980s.

Because too often do players like the money, sign the contract and then think they can opt out whenever the * they want. Club usually gets boned because of it too.

You will never win a flag 'Aints.

Carlton could have trade out Gibbs and got both SPP and Lyons in return.
Another win for SOS :thumbsu:

Yeah I can see why they made him stay. They wanted 2 first rounders for him and him and Gibbs are holding up their midfield.

But to get SPP and Adelaides second rounder would have been very good compensation.

Doubt Adelaide would be willing to give up anything like that this year.

Meh - pass.

Adelaide going very well don't think they are worried about this trade atm. I think they will look at free agent midfielders this year that they can get for much cheaper than two first rounders for Gibbs.

LOL - Gibbs has never been worth two first rounders.

Now, it's probably two picks in the 20s.

Considering the shape of Carlton's list, that seems an ideal way to inject more reasonable youth.

It really depends how serious they are about rebuilding, or if they just want to pander to their supporter base.

Rubbish.

He signed a legally binding contract. It was heavily frontloaded, and once the frontloading ended and it decreased to a normal contract, he wanted out. We thought we had not got enough on our side from him and expected him to fulfil his legally binding contract, unless Adelaide gave us a great offer to make it worth our while. They did not, it looks like no harm done to them. So because we couldn't get an appropriate deal the end result was Gibbs continues with his legally binding contract.

I still would not go back and do the trade offered for a late first & a late second (from memory).

How is putting the club first pathetic?

That may or may not be the case.
Either way it is irrelevant to the Bryce Gibbs trade to Adelaide.
Why keep a player who clearly wants to leave?
For what purpose? Are you running a footy club or a prison camp?

Holding a player to a lucrative contract he signed on his own free will is the equivalent of detaining a person in a prison camp......................ok, that's a very sensible point of view

A contract is a legally binding document.

This is not kindergarten, this is a multi million dollar enterprise. He is a professional that is aware of his obligations. He is being paid $500k per year to represent the club in a professional manner over the term of the contract. Simple.

Fyfe I hope, but doubtful.
