What's the feels on Davis? I'd like to see him get a run of 3 full games. Didn't get to see enough of him last week as I was busy with my hands covering my eyes
Just needs to be delisted..

We need to stop clogging our list with all these “nice guys that try hard” types.. guys that just dont seem to have it but we still endlessly persist with.

Davis, mookay, himmelberg, frampton, keays.

Out of that list Keays would be the only one I’d be keen to hold onto.. and maybe one of frampton/himm as back up for Ruck/forward.

We have so many hard workhorse types and not enough elite skilled types.

What it comes down to is who out of Davis, Gollant, O'Connor, Parnell, Strachan goes first at season's end, can't keep them all unless some of the elder statesmen are jettisoned.....Davis has to be the most likely?

Prior to Essendon, we HAD been competing every week. Only one bad game, really.

But it's a long year and bodies are getting weary.
Competing in fits and starts only...we were abysmal against St Kilda until DMac's intervention, we were woeful against Brisbane in the second half, had a shocking 2nd qtr against Carlton, poor 1st qtr against Collingwood, etc....so I don't think we can say this performance is a once-off. We're good for certain parts of a game, but very poor at other times. I guess we could say the entire game against the Bombers was poor, however, as we didn't win one qtr.

I'd prefer we stuck with Murray down back, as I think he's worth persisting with. I'd personally like to see McAsey tried up fwd in place of the Berg or Frampton (if Tex doesn't get up). If I recall correctly wasn't he swung forward in one of our matches last year, and was at least presenting and took a few grabs. In any case we need a complete overhaul of our forward line and our midfield rotations need a change up, as it's just not working. Cook and Newchurch for Rowe and Davis. Worrell for Doedee. Berry and McHenry lucky to stay, 7 disposals between them. TT may be due for a rest too...if so, I'd use McAsey and Tex up fwd...

Murphy, Kelly and ROB are in this category too. Guys who will play 100+ games and be solid citizens but their lack of skill is a glaring weakness.

Nicks definitely has a soft spot for these types.

We've left it late to give him a run. Decisions like giving Douglas the whole 2019 season, games for Riley Knight, picking D Mac almost every single time he's available regardless of ladder position... hasn't left room for many speculative let's see what Davis has got games. Now we've prioritised Murphy, McHenry Rowe over him as a forward and Jones and Hamill as a defender. Need to have the courage of our convictions and delist him rather than string him along for years and still wonder

Puts Mackay's games in perspective. Sure, he's only taking up 1 spot in the 22 and as the selection apologists like to argue on our behalf, "the 22nd selected isn't the difference between winning and losing". Exactly right. 20 games to a player who has no bearing on the result would surely be better spent as 5 x 4 week blocks to cycle players through. I can see the argument against in 2015, 2016 & 2017 where we were up and around the top 4 for most of each year. But from the back half of 2018 to now, we've been nowhere near the top 4, so we're talking about 60ish games that should have been cycled through other players in 4 week blocks. And if we can't make a couple of positional adjustments to leave out Mackay from wherever it is they think he's of use and bring in forward, mid or back then the flexibility within our 22 is so totally shit that we're no hope of becoming anything meaningful anyway. The system is broken well above the senior coach.

Really want to see Cook debut this week and they need to give Worrell another opportunity, I also would not mind seeing them debut Gollant this week I feel he would step up really well into AFL level. Also, what are people's thoughts on O'Connor, does he have potential or do you rule him out?

I really hope Gollant and Parnell are kept on, need to develop but I like the look of both, esp Parnell. Strachan also looks to be winning some support. I think Davis and O'Connor should be worried.

Play Cook, Fog and Worrell next week

I have high hopes for Cook, but personally I would rather let him play out the year in the SANFL and keep developing his body and his game there.

Give him a proper preseason then let him loose in the AFL next year.

What is the point in giving Davis charity games when he is no chance of being on our list next year? It's like us wasting games on Poholke last year and cooked veterans like Douglas, Jacobs etc.

Because it's the in the Sub role. He was extremely lucky Doedee got injured early on. There was equal chance he didn't play at all.

Really Mackay should be the Sub. But Davis is the next best option.

Our forward line was littered with smalls who can't impact 1 on 1 in the air. McAdam can hardly get a kick in the 2's but think 1 of him or Fog definitely have to come in. Playing Berry as some sort of quasi-FF was cruel to him in his 1st year but he at least has some spring in his step compared to the other industrious types we have down there. (McHenry, Murphy, Rowe) Think we can play 2 of them but not 3. Gets Lynch back in the side too which I'm sure Nicks can't wait for.

I tend to agree; he’s slight and raw and coming off shoulder surgery. Give him a full preseason and summer in the gym.

O’Connor surely deserves at least another year given 2020 was a write-off due to COVID.

Gollant and cook both had quieter games on the weekend which was a bit dissapointing..

Can say that I thought young Newchurch had a pretty good game though.. actually saw him put a lot more effort into pressuring opponents in the forward line and tackling.. kicked three goals too... one from a nice lead up and mark. He’s got a nice leap on him and anyone that watches his crumbing goal will tell you the blistering pace he has.. he left every other player in the race for the ball for dead just a second or two after the race for it began!..

Not sure he’s ready yet though and would like to see him take that weekends game and improve on it from now until the end of the year and the next preseason.

He had 3 possessions around 3/4 time. Not exactly a great game. I know he got two late goals, to boost the look, but he's not exactly dominating.

Walker, McAdam and Fogarty in.

West Coast will come in to town, full of confidence knowing of their superb 8-2 record at Adelaide oval. Maybe that is a good thing for Adelaide, who knows?.

I expect a better effort regardless of the result.

I think Cook kicked 2 goals but yeah did not get much of the ball and Gollant was a bit inaccurate, would've been good to see them debut this year but maybe they need another big pre season. I do like the looks of Newchurch but now like you said he has to build on that game and start finding consistency and another big pre season could give him a a chance to debut in 2022.

I’ve been one of those saying we’ve moved on past Lynch, but in the absence of Tex last week we could have used someone experienced who could lead up to the wing and take a contested grab. Or even an uncontested one!

On that basis, if Tex is still out I’d expect T-shirt Tommy to come in
