Really good move .....was crystal clear that he's much more likely to have an AFL career as a DEF than a FWD
+
.....Frampton really showed a naturalness for DEF last week
It wasn't all that clear to me, gotta say. He was bound to get more touches in defence in that last quarter because the ball was back down there something like 70% of the time and, as you know, "touches" (disposals) does not equate to effectiveness (Laird, Keays and Sloane prove that).
I thought Frampton was a log last Friday and expect him to be just as woodenly useless against the WCE.
I'd prefer to see Worrell given the chance.
I hope Frampton proves me wrong. We'll see.

I think our performance can be explained by thinking of our position on a two-dimensional plane. On one axis is our ‘degree of tanking’ with a scale going from not at all to completely. On the other axis is ‘quality of team’ (encompassing quality of list, strategy, coaching, etc**) with a scale from excellent to complete crap.

I think we’re a little way along (but nowhere near full blown) on the tanking axis and are very far down towards complete crap on the quality of team scale.

I wish it were the opposite as that would give me more hope for the future…

**Selection probably impacts both dimensions

Lol people clinging to "we're tanking" instead of facing up to Nicks selection/team philosophy is woeful.

Every other team would send Sloane off for surgery so he is good to go round one next year plus gives our youngsters some good mid field minutes to finish out the season.

And we kept/keep playing Lynch, Keays, Brown and Tex injured.

Roo needa to walk away and we almost need an independent panel to select our next coach.
I think we are a bad side, genuine bottom four. That is not tanking. It is where we are. Youngest side every week and few genuine A class older guys. Tex Seed and maybe Laird our only three possible A grade (probable B grade) players over 25.

But we leaving the door open to finish bottom 2. Particularly after GC Freo and St kilda starting winning.

A couple of weeks of big percentage drops and the chance to lose to the current 17th and 18th coming up.

Taking the chance to move from 15/16th to 17th/18th is the element of tanking.

Mackay is definitely in our 2022 plans based on this season and his continued selection.

On SM-A205YN using BigFooty.com mobile app

if Talia, Crouch and Lynch are being asked to explore free agency then there's no way they'll allow Mackay's 230 games to be removed from the 22. 1 or 2 of the junior mids dropped this week so he can play yet another meaningless game is so Adelaide Footy Club. It'll be even funnier when it's Sholl who has proven he can rack them up but as soon as his numbers drop, even for 1 week, near a David Mackay good game, he's at risk of being dropped.

Will be on our list till he is 40.

I've posted numerous times that his game style results in him being able to perform to current levels until he's near 40. It's not a joke, he can run patterns collecting 14 touches and kicking to contests for a few more years yet. I can't even get excited these days about a player's 200th. Every week there's a reminder as to how meaningless that achievement is at our club.

Incredible that it took 7 seasons of Frampton being on an AFL list for us to be like "maybe not up forward, but what about defence?"

So do we have put up with another handful of seasons trialing him in defence before we realise he's just plain shit?

Also I think he created his own Wiki:
Billy Frampton (born 20 November 1996) is an Australian rules footballer currently playing for the Adelaide Football Club he is a big present up forward or down back being ver versatile and ability to staunch his opponents In the Australian Football League (AFL). Known by experts to have potential of Gary Ablett Snr He was selected with the 84th pick in the 2014 AFL Draft, but did not make his debut until the 23rd round of the 2018 AFL season againstEssendon Football Club on 24 August 2018.

As if you can't tell it's tanking lol.

LOL. This is the exact same team you'd expect us to select if we were in a fight for 8th. It's exactly the same. Get the experienced guys back from injury after 2 SANFL games, drop kids to make that happen, keep playing experienced players that are injured and struggling and keep playing Mackay.

If we were in Essendon's position right now, you selection apologists, delusionists now more apt, would be saying we're a chance to play finals and we have to go after that. Our selection decisions are no different to the Pyke years when we were desperate To make the 8.

OK from that I want to see line ups of

Yep - it's not tanking if you're just genuinely really bad. It's not like we've packed a bunch of guys off for season ending surgery or playing a bunch of players out of position etc. If we hadn't had a strong last quarter against North then we'd be sitting bottom 2 right now, and that would be on pure merit.

Stops people accusing us of tanking when we dish up sh*t on game days. Experienced players in the SANFL raises eyebrows.

How is it different to selection when we were trying to make the 8 in Pyke's last 2 years. Now, don't laugh off this tough question with, "LOL, as if Pyke and Nicks are the same". Identify how you think Pyke would have selected this week that would be different when desperate for the 4 points to make the 8. Here's some questions to ponder, answering yes or no;

would Pyke have brought back Murphy and Lynch after 2 month injuries following 2 game SANFL tune ups?
would Pyke keep playing Mackay?
would Pyke keep playing a clearly hampered Sloane?
would Pyke have kept playing the injured first ruck?
would Pyke drop 1 or 2 kids to ensure he ticks all the above boxes?

Identify just one selection decision for this game that Pyke wouldn't have made when he was in charge. Just one.

You people can't have it both ways, you can't excuse the same selection strategy because we're contending and then suggest it's a tanking strategy just because our ladder position has changed. I know you want it to be because the reality of the situation is pretty bleak. But it's not, this is a selection week that is focussed solely on bouncing back from club's lowest ever score and sees a spluttering, travelling West Coast as an opportunity to win and not drop further down the ladder. This has been club stated philosophy for years and it's not changed just because we're currently a poor side.

Even though Smithers is out of form now, he deserved/earnt his 200th.

Are we though? I would have thought that playing Sloane injured, rushing Lynch back in and continuing to pick Dmac suggests we’re pretty keen on being as competitive as we believe we possibly can be. What does not tanking look like?

And if we are tanking, then what a sad indictment on our senior players that is, that picking them ensures losses more so than playing kids with only a handful of games under their belts.
It is a sad indictment on them.

Apart from Tex, Seed and Laird none of our guys over 28 are playing good Footy.

Keays and Kelly are young enough to be part of the future.

Smithers, Mackay and Sloane are struggling. Lynch has been bad all year.

Well Mackay is Mackay

I do think Sloane is playing now to trigger money next year.

Already missed games this year and in his third year of the five year deal.

No doubt there are games played KPIs to trigger more money in the final two years.

He couldn't play through the retina issue. But can play with his finger. His decision to play.

I reckon once he hits that number of games he needs to play to trigger more money for 22/23 we will hear he is finished for the season and will have surgery.

Take these four out and our side would actually be better right now.

Having said that I don't think we are playing them to tank. It is nepotism. In the team on name not form.

Is capacity dropping for this game?

Just had a gig I was going to Saturday night cancelled due to decrease capacity.

Gives me an excuse not to go if they do considering the selections this week

Indoor venues are 50% capacity I think. havent made a decision on Adelaide oval. SMA and government will come up with something I am sure but at this stage still 100% for outdoor venues.

This is the most disappointing aspect for me this year. Smith hasn't been anywhere near his all-Aust form of a few years back and his kicking has been terrible. Sloane is not the player he once was - you could always guarantee some gut running and inspirational play a few yrs back - no more. Unfortunately there hasn't been enough talent shown in the twos to force these guys out, so our seniors stay in, and the team stays wallowing in mediocrity.

When we have brought in young players, they've been ok for one week, then missing the next in most cases. The year's now caught up with TT as well. All of this, coupled with the poor form of McAdam and Rowe, the drop off with Hamill, Sholl, Berg and McAsey now has us back to 2020's sh*teness. Add Fog to those not improving, and we have the worst list of any club at the minute, and are lucky to have won 5. Personally, I'd be tanking hard from here on, as we're nowhere near it.
