Having been to a couple of SANFL games this year, Thommo can't even keep up with SANFL midfielders, let alone AFL players. Extremely unlikely to come in. There's no point playing a bloke who all he can do is sit at ruck contests for the tap. He's not even that good at tackling anymore. Greenwood is a far better option.

JJ Menzel Hampton Mackay playing like hacks

I think we are seeing the results of wasted draft picks used on recycled players such as menzel and hampton that could have been used on midfielders. Whoever decided to trade in menzel I hope is no longer with the club. Our first round pick from a couple of years ago in doedee has not been sighted which is unusul for a club. He may turn into something but lets see him bloody well play. I feel our recruiters have made a lot of speculative picks recently and midfielders should have been the priority in the draft or trading one in should have been the course of action. The club put all their eggs in the Clangerfield basket and has failed to properly plan prior to his departure which I believe the club knew 18 months out.

That's just not true. Sauce was pinging them everywhere, including over his head, to try to get them away from the superior Melbourne pack.
That back over the head tap of Sauce's rarely ends well for us, looked a no brainer to me when he was rucking against 2 under sized, part time Ruckmen to go for the big offensive punch forward to clear the congested pack at his feet because we were clearly getting out muscled in close particularly by Petracca in the last quarter.

What are your thoughts on our midfield and how we got out muscled

Adding players will achieve nothing until the existing personnel pull their head in and act like AFL players.

Their effort these past two weeks has been appalling. But they're quality at their best.

I was there and I was bitterly disappointed and very concerned about what has gone wrong.

The biggest concern for me is the coaching panel's inability to turn the game around. I thought this last week also, during that appalling first quarter. I thought they had a Plan B; it certainly seemed so against Richmond but it seems that we just do not have the game plan or skills to stop a team that is getting away from us. Sticking steadfastly to a game plan in the hope it will turn around is reminiscent of the Garry Ayers days and, in the days of fast scoring, just isn't acceptable.

I agree that McKay was poor and Jenkins seemed slow and not able to commit to the contest. Lynch seemed so out of it, he may well have been suffering from his concussion. Hampton doesn't get the ball enough for a midfielder, so he needs to get back some form in the SANFL. Charlie was also off his game but there were also trips stumbles and falls by Brown, Hartigan and Brad Couch. I thought that Menzel had endeavour but a couple of bad disposals and an injury didn't help his night.

I cant agree with the commentary on Kelly. I thought he was OK in a back line under siege.

Thompson has been the regular target of vitriol that none of you would dare to say to his face. Sure he is not the champion he used to be, but I would have loved seeing him chest up against Viney last night. And I think he would have helped slow down the easy opposition take-aways that we have had the last two games.

Despite the fact none of us will actually be asked for our advice, here's my selections:

Out: McKay, Jenkins, Menzel (inj) Hampton
Ins: Greenwood, Thompson, Lever, Knight

Changed roles: Otten taking Jenkins' role.

And I am looking forward to having Seedsman, Cheney, McGovern and Doedee to choose from. They will certainly put pressure on McKay, Cameron and Atkins (Seedsman), Kelly and Hartigan (Cheney & Doedee) Jenkins and Otten (McGovern)

I'd also like to see Lairn and Smith have a rotation in the midfield, which would be dependent on Cheney returning.

Problem is the really good midfield prospects are most often taken in the top ten, a pick we've rarely had. Last year the only 2 midfielders that look to be top end talent taken after Gallucci are SPP and Jarrod Berry after that most were speculative.

The previous year much the same with only Gresham and Dunkley standing out and maybe Ryan Clarke.

It sounds good saying we should have drafted more mids but there aren't very many at all that look like being quality we could have taken instead of who we ended up settling on on.

Agree re Jake Kelly I thought he did OK all things considered and on Otten he does a lot of work that goes unappreciated...A game high eleven 1%'ers is not too shabby.

Because he ain't soft like the rest of the team, we were severely out muscled last night so you want to bring in Galluci or Doedee so they can bend us over further than we already are and maybe apply some Vas

So we pick him and he has 15 possessions that go nowhere and dives on a few footys and bodies

We are better off developing kids that may become tougher as they go

Didn't he have something in the mid twenty s last week his first week maybe which is exceptionally low for him when he starts getting 30 plus in the sanfl what will you say I know you will say galluci is a legend if he gets mid twenty s in the sanfl double standards I am not fused about Thommo racking possessions as he will do it he is proven but that's not the reason to be in he wont be pushed around and allow or midfield to look soft

We have lost the last two games because we looked as soft as butter

And in the first six rounds we didn't look as soft as butter with the same personnel.

It's an attitude and application issue

Then we better keep going the same team forget making any changes

Can't have it both ways

You drop players to send a message, not because the players you're bringing in are actually going to make a difference. Dropping Brad Crouch, Jenkins and Lynch would make us a much worse team, but it's a message we need to send so that the players pull their finger out.

Bringing back Thommo achieves nothing. You may as well play some debutants so we can have a good look at who might make it

Now I'm really confused I'm getting told look at the first 6 games we are champs, you drop players primarily on form pointless having JJ standing in the forward line if he has his finger up his nose picking it or Hampton is going all flashy and achieving nothing or Menzel can't hit the side if a barn or Mackay is just spudding it up,but the thing that I've noticed over the last two games is we are being out muscled hassled teams are continually coming after us and mark my words it will continue. Are the players physically capable of handling it or do we bring players in capable of handling it

Now Marty - you're the one that likes to preach no gold passes and guys in form are ones to stay in or come in

Thommo coming in would be a gold pass , he's done nothing to show at sanfl level he deserves to play anytime soon at AFL level

Significant rain and storms forecast in Brisbane for the weekend.

Good. We need test after test so our club learns not to be complacent and shit.

Wish every game was a tough away match against a top team to be honest

Even if Thompson helps short short term, I don't think he helps in the finals. With that in the mind and it being his last season, it's time to sink or swim with what we've got. Expose those guys to it now who are going to be exposed to it next year anyways when he's not around. At least now we can cycle through a few, see who wants to step up and they can all go back to the SANFL (and off-season at the end of the year) knowing what they need to improve on.

To be honest, I'm more worried that the coaching staff are being called upon so often to turn things around and stem the flow

Not sure what you mean by "squib" because none of R. Sloane, M. Crouch, B. Crouch, R. Douglas squib a contest. The only mid I've seen take the "easy" option is R. Atkins and can't say I've ever seen Hampton "shirk" a contest either. Milera a few times I've seen not go at the contest 100% but then at other times he's done OK?
Take a closer look

Cheney and Thommo would help in that area unfortunately Cheney is injured and Thommo lacks pace but we need it in the team so we don't get out muscled and pushed around

Good, i was hoping to finish 8th again
