I think 1970crow's point is right about us losing speed and pressure up forward through no McGovern (and I guess no Knight to a degree) has meant that we've needed Charlie up there.

Walker, Jenkins, Lynch, Otten doesn't exactly scream frontal pressure
I orginally thought that might have been the case but Otten played down back on the weekend.

Cameron's output has dropped significantly, in the first month he was a weapon, they would move him back given how we've struggled in the middle the last 2 weeks.

Plus since he was injured the change has been made, i don't think that's a coincidence.

A ruckman is useful but only if he can contribute around the ground like an extra mid. Brodie Grundy style. Sauce is a relic
Sauce is 1 of our best nearly every week and we rely on him to do things other ruckmen aren't asked to do.

You aren't seriously having a crack at sauce??

How about this for a radical idea.

Luke Brown to the midfield.
Pretty limited footballer IMO. Well suited to the role he's in

Really we just need Sloane, Crouch, Crouch, Hampton and Douglas to play better. Not sure we have any better options currently. Maybe Greenwood into the mix.

F: Betts - Beech - Hampton
HF: Walker - Lynch
C: Smith - MC - Atkins
HB: Laird - Kelly - Hartigan - BC
B: Lever - Talia - Brown
1R: Jacobs - Sloane - Cameron
Int: Greenwood, Douglas, Milera, Jenkins

- 5 man forward line inc 2 quick medium/smalls, 1 deep marking target who can also lead, 2 (rather than 1) quality lead-up 'conduits'
- Every midfielder expected to rotate more into another role, no predictable/one dimensional midfield (though obviously key mids there more often)
- Greenwood added to the midfield mix
- Mid/forward rotations from MC, Hampton, Milera, Atkins, Greenwood
- Mid/defence rotations from Sloane, Smith, BC, Laird, Douglas

- Next week Kelly out for Doedee or Knight (with resultant shuffle). An underperforming Hampton, hindered Cameron, lazy/unaccountable BC would also be in danger.

Imo, Lever & Greenwood should be minimum ins.

Knight should return via sanfl as underdone.

A tall needs to make way for Levee - at this stage Jenkins could do with a run in the sanfl as struggled since his return... though may be Hartigan who is carrying something.

Probably an injured player out for Greenwood - Menzel or Cameron.

We wont do it but our aerially impotent forward line needs someone who can actually take a grab, someone we can kick to who will actually compete in the air and not dribble the ball to ground and allow the opposition an easy take away as they lumber slowly after them (all 4 current options chase ultra slowly, even though one can run fast!).

Hampton has had his shot this will be 9 games in, time for a change

Afraid to say I agree with you. He is not getting the ball enough to be an inside mid. He has shown enough to give him a go at half back. I would like to see him take Mackay's role.

Otherwise, maybe with our complete lack of anything good about our midfield it is time to give Laird a more prominent role there. We know that he can win his own ball and usually finds an outside player with ball in hand. Hampton and Laird a direct swap of roles. Problem with that is that Laird has already been rotated in and hasnt stood out. But maybe he needs to play a whole game as a first string mid to see if he can get his 30 touches there.

I thought his run and 3 bounces then stop because he had nobody to kick to suggested he was either not carrying or finally over anything he was. I think with JJ being even worse than normal in terms of defensive action, they've used CC as insurance and haven't been able to let him go yet.

I wonder whose idea it was for a 4 year deal, ours or his? Got the feeling he knew we were in a delicate position with losing players and used it to his advantage. That being the case he's pretty much ensured he's selected otherwise we have deadwood for 4 years.
So if your work lost some valued employees and they were willing to pay you x amount to keep you there for x years because they saw some potential in you ... you would turn around and say "actually, you know what, that doesn't seem fair? Half that price and cut the term of the contract in half and tell me where to sign".
